Popular Post Aditus Posted April 17 Popular Post Posted April 17 I didn't want to do this, and add another topic. I thought there wouldn't be much to say, but then, a few days ago, I changed my mood, and some of you reached out to ask me why I'm sad. It showed me what a great community this is. For those who are interested in the fate of the stranded humpback whale lying in shallow waters off the island of Poel near Wismar. He's still alive. A privately financed rescue operation is currently trying to lift the animal onto a tarp, which will be secured to two pontoons and attached to a tug boat to transport him to the North Sea. Some experts said to let him die in peace because he is too weak and sick. Others suggested killing him mechanically; everything else would be animal cruelty. Then there are those who say there's still hope, seeing he's still fighting for life and singing. I think he became a symbol of hope in this wretched world. 1 3 3 Quote
Kileoli Posted April 27 Posted April 27 (edited) I sorta understand how you feel having to hear about the whale every other day on the radio on my way to work. The rescue action should move on tomorrow or Wednesday. It might sound mean but it's a first world problem to try to save a whale at all costs thinking how humans are suffering in other parts of the world and not getting any attention. I hope at least they get the whale safely to the ocean. Edited April 27 by Kileoli 2 1 Quote

In parts, you're right, but sometimes we, or I, need a problem that actually can be solved once in a while. So this whale might symbolize hope that people can still be compassionate. People in other countries don't understand the fuss, they say a stranded whale is a natural occurance. In my opinion, abandoned nets, all the noise, and the changed climate conditions aren't natural. I hope he makes it, against all odds. Edited May 1 by Aditus 1 3 Quote
Kileoli Posted May 1 Posted May 1 That's so true and I totally understand the need for a solvable problem. Still it's pretty painful hearing the whale is still there. If there was a quick solution, then yea. And sorry I have my moments when I hate all the peace places. Don't take it personally.😅 2 Quote
Slytherin Posted May 2 Posted May 2 I read that he has been released this morning into the North Sea 3 Quote
JarianDaProducer Posted Sunday at 04:46 PM Posted Sunday at 04:46 PM I've been following this since it first hit the news, and honestly, the "let nature take its course" argument feels like such a cop-out when we actually have the means to try something. I saw a clip of him moving yesterday, and you can’t tell me that whale has given up yet. Even if the pontoons and tug boat plan is a long shot, I'd much rather see us try a rescue than just stand on the shore and watch. It’s definitely risky for the animal, but in a situation this bleak, I’m siding with the team giving him a fighting chance. 3 Quote
