brax Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 From Chapter 3: "I understand Sergeant Connors took you to the Enlisted Mess for lunch." Williams said halfway through leaving the door. "Meet me in thirty minutes at the Officer Mess. That's where you'll be eating unless you choose to have lunch with the Enlisted Men. You aren't really in the Guard so you can at either, but think you can bring an enlisted man into the Officer Mess." What does the underlined portion mean...? I've read this story like 4 or 5 times and STILL dont understand what that little bit means...
EMoe57 Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 Oops! Missed a word there That line should read but don't think you can bring an enlisted man into the Officer Mess." The Mess is the dining facility. Since the boys aren't really in the service and their Dad is the CO, they can eat with the Officers. Hope this helps!

Ummm, perhaps the line should have read "You aren't really in the Guard so you can EAT at either, but DON'T think you can bring an enlisted man into the Officer Mess."? Ohhhh! This means we get to do some more editor-teasing! YAY!!!! BTW, a serious point regarding editing: Even mainstream best-selling authors, who have their works edited by a TEAM of highly paid editors, have plenty of errors. So, I'm only joking around here when I tease Emoe.
