A really delightful story, one that made me laugh out loud more than once. I would read a whole novel about Eli and the ants' union. The locker room scene was hilarious. And this line sums up my whole life: He was in the IKEA instruction manual for building the closet, but someone had stolen the screws.

This is shaping up very nicely. I can't imagine that the forces inside the dam perimeter will let Alex and Kenny drive off in the high tech equipment to regroup and strike again, so the next chapter should be a doozy!

Grandpa is an malevolent presence right off the bat. Dean seems to be cool. Nathan is a bit of a blank canvas still with a lot of potential. Plenty of tension and drama. Great start! -
A ripping tale, but Alex has such a methodical, rational personality, almost coldly so, that I feel he has forgiven Brian's shocking betrayal very quickly. Love is, indeed, blind!

A raw, introspective, and emotionally charged personal narrative, confessional in tone, that navigates themes of self-awareness, emotional detachment, love, regret and personal growth. Written as journal entries that straddle memoir and therapy, with a candidness that’s both unsettling and deeply human. Very powerful, and well worth reading.

A sad train wreck of a relationship slowly, inevitably crawls to its conclusion. Jason sums it up: But he felt torn between his love for me and his love for a better life without me in it. Upon hearing those words from him tore me apart. I was keeping him trapped in this cycle, preventing him from letting go. At least he developed enough self-awareness to see how destructive they were together and the courage to call a time of death. A beautiful piece of writing. -
Already high stakes are pushed up a bit. I assume that if the guys at the dam are alert to deer wandering around their perimeter, a transport plain dropping stuff in a nearby lake would pique their curiosity.

Åke is so wonderfully naive still! This exchange perfectly sums up their relationship, and he just doesn't seem to grasp it: ‘Come on, Ocky, don’t get so excited. We aren’t lovers. We are chess friends.’ ‘Chess and fuck friends, you mean.’ ‘Sort of. Still it doesn’t make us a couple.’ Kevin got up. ‘I’m going to take a shower.’ Kevin, on the other hand, knows exactly what is going on: ‘Yes, I also accept it’s a draw between me and your Dutch chess friend.’ It was a most extraordinary thing for Kevin to say, Åke thought.
