    Chapter 20

My first instinct is to say that most people want honesty in a relationship, but the more I know of people, the more I suspect we all really channel our inner Blanche DuBois by looking for candlelight and magic behind a scrim of chiffon. Honesty is a hard row to hoe.

    Chapter 7

Tav turned around and shrugged, ‘What? I’m a villain.' Yep, Tav gonna do Tav stuff.

The plot thickens, and details become more obscure... I love it!

    Beautifully written chapter.

    Chapter 24

Dr. Kincaid's e-mail is spectacular. I look forward to seeing how this develops!
  7. Current and Countercurrent Chart Class – Quarterdeck The awning stretched over the quarterdeck cast a thin, gauzy shade, but the heat still pressed like a smith's grip. Trying to concentrate past the reek of softening tar and the strident cries of gulls, Midshipman Blake sat cross-legged on the deck, his face calm but pale, the edges of his collar just on the looser side of regulation to spare the healing stripes across his back. Lieutenant Morris stood at a small table improv
  8. This piece is stunning in its lyricism and emotional depth. It reads like an exquisite novella that straddles historical fiction and a modern literary genre, with a voice that is at once intimate and autumnal. Highly recommended.

    Full Story

Meg's terse, “They lived. Is that dramatic enough for you?” is a straightforward gut punch, and then the quiet devastation of “When Rowan died, Kit made a sound I have not forgiven the world for making him make.” That will haunt me for days.

    Chapter 19

Those are excellent points, and very happily received as I want to improve my story-telling ability. I agree 100% that Blake isn't sure about what he wants from Pitt, he just knows he is missing something.

    Chapter 19

Pitt did stand by and gave such support as his rigid, repressed moral code would allow, but Jamie, from his lofty perch of nineteen or twenty years of age, does not seem to accept that as enough. Jamie folded the parchment neatly, slowly. “You didn’t say you were sorry.” Pitt nodded. “Because I don’t think words will be enough. Not now. But I’ll show you. Every blasted day, if need be.” For a long moment, nothing moved but the ship. Then Jamie said, “You’ll have to.”
  12. In the Shadow of the Mast Two days out of Antigua, the sea lay flat as hammered tin, its glare unrelenting. The wind had gone slack at dawn, and by mid morning the sails hung slack and sullen against their lines. The Absolute creaked and sweated like a bear from a traveling show asleep in its chains. Blake was crossing the quarterdeck at a clipped pace, his shirt clinging to his back, when Pitt hailed him from near the binnacle. “Mr Blake.” Jamie halted, pivoting on instin

    Chapter 13

My favorite of that genre is Karl Ove Knausgård's My Struggle, a six volume, 3000-page 'novel' about a man named Karl Ove Knausgård's writing a six volume, 3000-page 'novel' called My Struggle. The last volume is about his family's resentment over how they were portrayed in the first volume. It is such a self-referential work that it passes from fiction to memoir back to fiction again.

    Chapter 5

I thought I was becoming forgetful in my old age. Now I know that the Anachronism Network is planting contradictions in my 1970s, 1980s and 1990s streams! I feel so much better knowing that!

Jimmy had nodded at that, learning a very important lesson about trusting pricks with personal data, especially Bankers. That's a bitter lesson that so many folks have to learn.

    Chapter 3

A bitter debate that has raged for a while with no end in sight. One man's prison is another's essential source of structure and support.
  24. A beautiful story of a man's discovery of family secrets after a death and how letters from the past can both disrupt lives and instigate healing. A well written piece of fiction.
