  1. And, I love all things Sarah. something about the slow.... driving.... beat.
  2. Couldn't find a better vid, but it's about the music, right? Paula Cole's Feeling Love DAMN.
  3. BHT is one of my faves. I love every single song on that album, but It's Alright and Bittersweet are particular faves.
  4. As a reader, if I have to pick between A and B (for fiction), I'll take A. I can fill in some details on my own. For me, the verbosity in B does not enhance; the purple prose detracts from what I imagine the author is attempting to convey. Personally, I enjoy reading the most when an author knows when the reader would either need more description, or might want it. The author doesn't spend too much time/space describing the mundane (although, some writers do such a terrific job of describing the mundane... it can make you feel like you're right there.
  5. I have a complaint about the story. It was too short. (I s'pose that's more a commentary on how I feel about stories in anthologies in general... but really. I wanted to read more about their story!) I thoroughly enjoyed it though! It was kind of bittersweet, with a nice twist.
  6. I'm sorry for your loss. Boo sounds like he was a terrific companion who will be greatly missed.
  7. Mango/Black Bean/Corn salad 1 ripe mango. cubed. 1-2 ears of corn. cooked and cut off the cob. 1 can of black beans. rinsed and drained. 2 small tomatoes, chopped (I like roma tomatoes) 1 avocado, cubed 6 scallions, chopped Dressing: 2 Tablespoons olive oil 1 Tablespoon lime juice 1 Tablespoon honey 1 clove garlic, minced 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  8. I love "how soon is now"... a great angst-y song. And I'll see your "smells like teen spirit" and match it with Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box
  9. Some of the lyrics of the songs above (like, No Rain by Blind Melon) are fairly angst-y, but the music itself seems upbeat. Makes it less angst-y for me. Songs like this one, almost drive me to slitting my wrists (kidding). I def. get a bit tight in the chest, get all sorts of maudlin, nostalgic, and... ANGST-Y when I listen to this song. (Pictures of You-The Cure) It is THE ultimate angst-ridden tune, IMHO. Lyrics: I've been looking so long at these pictures of you that i almost belive that they're real i've been living so long with my pictures of you that i almost believe that the pictures are all i can feel remembering you standing quiet in the rain as i ran to your heart to be near and we kissed as the sky fell in holding you close how i always held close in your fear remembering you running soft through the night you were bigger and brighter than the snow screamed at the make-believe screamed at the sky and you finally found all your courage to let it all go remembering you fallen into my arms crying for the death of your heart you were stone white so delicate lost in the cold you were always so lost in the dark remembering you how you used to be slow drowned you were angels so much more than everything oh hold for the last time then slip away quietly open my eyes but i never see anything if only i had thought of the right words i could have hold on to your heart if only i'd thought of the right words i wouldn't be breaking apart all my pictures of you Looking So long at these pictures of you but i never hold on to your heart looking so long for the words to be true but always just breaking apart my pictures of you there was nothing in the world that i ever wanted more than to feel you deep in my heart there was nothing in the world that i ever wanted more than to never feel the breaking apart all my pictures of you
  10. One for the story- (Love Will Tear Us Apart)
  11. Only one person has described CC as angst-y? I find this difficult to believe. For me, difference between sad and angst-y is the yearning behind the sadness that makes one angst-y. Dunno if that makes sense to anyone but me. - David Grey
  12. Thanks for hosting Steve! It was fun! Congrats to Matt!
  13. I'll probably have to edit this a few times as I think of new things 1) People who are perpetually late. If you want to meet 15 minutes AFTER the time we agreed on, why didn't you say so? 2) Entitled people. Especially adults. Including undergrads who expect me to GIVE them a grade, instead of them earning one. 3) People who aren't interested in self-awareness or self-improvement 4) Being minimized or ignored. Why aren't my ideas/thoughts acknowledged unless a man repeats them after I've already voiced them? 5) People with no work-ethic. 6) Being stuck in traffic. I'd rather drive out of the way if it means I can keep moving. 7) Being asked "where are you from?" when what they really want to know is "what's your ethnicity?"
  14. People can be so cruel and thoughtless. And those who contemplate suicide don't see it as a solution, they see it as the ONLY solution. What they often fail to think about, is that while it does meet their goal (most are just looking to end the pain), it is also FINAL. I'm grateful that there are caring people like you volunteering. I've done hotline work before (Domestic Violence), and it is very difficult work. I hope your center has some sort of care for the volunteers (support group for secondary or vicarious trauma?) especially when you learn that one of the callers has committed suicide. I'd like to remind you to please think of all the people you HAVE helped and saved. I hope thinking of them gives you strength to continue fighting the good fight!!
  15. I'm spitting mad I missed the Boston-Philly game. My friend practically had a heart attack, he was so happy. So... I can't be mad if I don't win. I picked the teams based on whims and loyalty. But here's to hoping!
  16. That'd be Happy Birthday in Chinese. Hope you celebrated by being with loved ones and doing things you love.
  17. Hater. We DRW fans can't expect them to be in the Finals EVERY year. But it still hurts. At least we lasted longer than the Avs.
  18. GO WINGS GO!!! About time they got upset and showed some spirit. I hate that I can't watch the games and I couldn't listen to this one either.
  19. but he has a STORY! and I think he's total boy band material. Tim? not my fave. Too.... Abercrombie & Fitch, w/o the height. And he didn't seem to have a whole lot going on upstairs. And he can't sing. Actually, I'm not very impressed this season. I'd still be voting for Adam Lambert, if I could.
  20. University of Michigan seems to hang out in the top 5 of law schools... and it is a GORGEOUS campus (not that I'm biased), very gay affirming/friendly, and also close to Chicago and... Ohio. Course, NYC is NYC.
  21. Self-fulfilling prophecies and some Barnum effect, yes. I give the MBTi credit for at least saying these characteristics lie upon a continuum, instead of you're either this OR that. I'll stop, b/c I'm just finishing up teaching a class on personality theories. I have a bit too much to say. But I like the person-interactionist theories best. Trait and factor theories are too... easy and simplistic.
  22. It can actually change, especially if you've shifted roles, workplaces, etc. When I was working in a molecular biology lab, I was a solid INTJ. When I worked as a counselor for several years, I was an ISTJ. Now, as a grad student for the past bazillion years,... INFJ. I can't tell you how surprised I am about that F.
  23. After I caught up, I decided I could read this thread b/c there would be no spoilers. Imagine my surprise when there is no mention of Aaron or Steven dying in the story yet! And we've got them faking dead on some tropical island, sipping mai tais, and enjoying life. I can't wait to see how Mark gets us from Chapter 13 to Steven, Aaron, and Jeff living it up in the tropics (except... Jeff needs someone too, no?) psst... I know to expect one chapter a week from THE OTHER ONE, how often do we get new stuff here?
  24. I'd say that I hate it when you're right, but I did say that the DRW were probably out in the next round. Effin Sharks. Effn Wings. same game, every time. GAH!
  25. So very many INTJs... when it is supposed to be one of the less common types. interesting.
