Keep in mind guys that Comsie is using a webtv so the same rules/shortcuts don't apply. Unless that's changed... which as far as I know... it hasn't. (I'd post the link but I don't know what the exact rules on link posting are so I won't for the moment) but... if I can draw your attention this section, specifically the portion I have underlined, you might understand FYI: "The WebTV product is an adaptor that allows a television set to be connected to the internet, primarily for web browsing and email. Yeah two weeks sounds plenty but it might be fair to give a few topics in advance so that people have time to come up with ideas. Stagenames / Pseudonyms - It's a question of whether you think we can trust people to judge on skill opposed to popularity. (@James: I know for a fact that in NZ idol, the superhot guy who was the lesser singer lost and the nothot pretty ugly guy who was an amazing singer, won. So it depends on where the competition is held I guess.) P.S. This needs to be mentioned (if it hasn't been mentioned already) on the library + shack forums for feedback from EVERYONE not just people who regular on the GA forum.

Sounds good Comsie - Why not ask another hosted GA author to help judge? I did have one other thought though (don't worry, I actually have had more than one...) would it be better for people to post their 'entries' anonymously or under a pseudonym? Otherwise people will be tempted to vote for their favourite shacker rather than the best writing. Mind you - it wouldn't be American idol if a pretty face didn't win

It sounds terrible but homosexuality is a minority so technically speaking, isn't heterosexuality the norm? Edit: Re: Marks message: for those who don't know the DSM is the Diagnostic and Statistical manual of mental disorders - a mental disorder has to be in this book to be valid, the way I understand it.

It's an interesting topic but regardless of what is taught in school, conforming to heterosexuality is always going to be seen as the 'right' thing to do for younger kids. On the other hand, I do agree that in general, kids aren't as judgmental as teenagers or adults. On the topic of being 'taught' to be sensitive, I recall when I was 7 and I used that old saying "easy peasy japaneasy" and my teacher said it was racist and that we should say "easy peasy lemon-squeasy" instead. I do think it's important for kids to be taught to have an open mind but they are going to pick up on what is said in passing in their environment. In terms of homosexuality in the future, I think it's pretty safe to assume that much like the race issue, people are slowly going to accept us as normal. Of course this is just my opinion

I'm taking a writing course at the moment and one of the quotes we had (I can't remember what it was EXACTLY) but the gist of it was that often a writer has to silence the little voice inside their head, their self critic who can often make us unsure of ourselves. I like my ideas sometimes and when I come up with something truly amazing it's great but I wouldn't say I'm a real fan of my stuff. I'm a fan of the people who take the time to read my stories and say "this was great", "this was bad" or "you could have done better" - I just love feedback in general. Writing isn't about loving the stories or the content in itself it's just a means to another end of me. My only hope is that I can inspire someone in the same way you've inspired me, Comsie. There's also the obvious fact that writing is a great outlet to let out some emotion. (Anyone who has read chapter one of my story 'the ascended' will understand) P.S. Ooo an interesting topic mark! I have to say that Irish accents are REALLY hot hehe and the American/NY accent does it for me too but that's probably because a guy I like lives there.

This is just my opinion... but I knew people that did swimming and only had it once per day so perhaps it depends on the country? What you have to remember is most people aren't going to know anyway so if an inaccuracy actually works best in your story, I'd just keep it. I can understand you wanting to keep everything accurate though so whatever works for you. Good luck and I would love to read it when you're done.

Good things take time, some authors have stories that have been going for 10 years+ but it's necessary to tell the story to it's potential. I'm just happy that other authors choose to share these stories which are highlighted by their own personal experience and romance. Remember that writing is a part of the author and it is a process and although we want the finished product in front of us as soon as possible. This isn't always possible.

I listen to it a lot when I need to write something which is really sad but I like listening to music which makes me feel something because sometimes it's therapeutic to have a bit of a cry. That's just me though lol. Oh and I'll have a look through some of these

Meh I think it's perfectly fine for people who consent and aren't offended. If someone doesn't like it, they can tell the person to stop or have their provider block the number, simple as that.

Yes! It is an awesome morph... I have to admit, what bothers me about the whole saga is the lack of substance the whole thing has. If you go to wikipedia, they can sum up each book/movie in a very small paragraph that pretty much tells you everything you need to know. I also agree that people do overuse the "H" word but I'm guilty of it too. It's a fair assumption that you should be critical towards vampire movies you see inadequate. The author openly admits that she completely ignored the previous 'vampire rules' and didn't research it at all. As a vampire enthusiast and writer, critiquing related media from the vampire genre is not only acceptable but expected. Lets be honest, the movie wasn't too bad but compared to pieces of writing relating to vampires, it doesn't particularly stand out. There's also the fact that the 'twilight generation' has spawned a whole bunch of movies and series relating to vampires that aren't even all that good. Just my opinion of course

This is why I try and avoid credit cards - but a fixed rate should be a fixed rate. If you signed a contract specifying a fixed rate, you could always threaten legal action. Sometimes the threat is enough.

I think a story is told when it is told, it's like writing an essay, you shouldn't check the word count after every 5 words. If you only have 2 chapters worth of material then just make the story 2 chapters.
