    Chapter 17

So SirruisXM has a channel that is old time radio dramas, I wanna say it is Channel 82. I can hear the organ hits, "bump bah bah" as the chapter ends.
  2. I am a cynic. I ask how and why is it being talked about now? The therapy happened in 1971. The final paper was published in 1974. The suicide was in 2003. The papers were not secret, they were published in leading journals of the day and they were fairly mainstream thoughts for the day. Rekers was not the sole author of the study, the highly respected Ole Lovaas was the co-author, but his name was never mentioned in the story. It wasn't at some crazy camp in the Utah wilds, it was UCLA and it was sponsored by the federal government. If you read the paper and read all the references and look them up, you see this was as I said before, pretty mainstream stuff. The family also skates in this report, they are made to look like victims. It is the parents who wanted it. They wanted the behavior modification and the mother was an active participant. The psychologists did their thing with the boy one day a week. The mother did the behavior modification every day and continued to do so even after the study had been concluded. So who is bringing this up now and why? The cynic in me says it has a political motivation behind it and nothing more otherwise Lovaas, Baker, Green, Bentler, Zugar, and the other 26 psychologists that Rekers & Lovaas cited would have been mentioned and the whole field talked about, not one psychologist and one case.

    Chapter 16

Really nice chapter. I remember my freshman year in high school when my best friend told me he didn't love me the way I loved him despite the fact that our relationship wasn't too different from Will & John's. The bitch was having to watch him date girls through high school, even go on double dates with him and be jealous over the fact I wasn't the one macking with him. One might say this chapter was really on the mark.

    Glee

I liked the last episode, but is this really only the end of season 2? I'd swear Glee has been on forever.....
  6. I know exactly how you feel. Not so much from GA, but from another site I used to read stories at. I stopped posting reviews because a lot of authors didn't really want feedback. I would say the people I read here are open to honest criticisms.
  7. I would have used different ages. After 18 After 25 After 30 After 40 Under 30 you are still pretty young and I am sure when I am 50, 35 will seem young and when I am 70 I will think I was just a kid at 50. But a more important question, at what age must you remove "boy" or even worse "boi" from your screen/chat name. No one over 22 should ever have either in their screen name.
  8. Well they aren't distant relatives..... JP's father is either Kristen's grandfather or great uncle, right? I forget what Bill was to Kristen.
  9. Like every other decent, moral person I spin the top cookie off the frosting, scoop off the frosting with my two front, bottom teeth and then eat both cookies. Is there really any other way to do it?
  10. I like Comic Sans, it gives the story character.

    Chapter 14

Damn, makes me wish I was sitting on a terrace with my morning croissant and thick French coffee watching the city wake up. There is nothing better than Paris at 6AM.
  12. I know Palo Alto isn't Malibu or Hollywood, but if I had a dime for every nice boy from the Midwest with a good sense of self, determination and common sense who has gotten lost in the ways of Hollywood and West Hollywood I could retire. They come out here to UCLA or USC or come out to make it in modeling or acting and the town chews them up. For some it is just the chance to finally be openly gay and walk down a public street holding a guys hand and then they want to be in West Hollywood all the time. They can't get enough of the clubs. And then they meet their first famous or important person in Hollywood and start geting invited to the parties. It is intoxicating. Mark touched on it a little in previous stories. Some come out of the phase and turn out okay, others it kills one way or another.
  13. JP could do a guest lecture at Columbia, Robbie could do a guest lecture (or receive an award) from the NYU film school, JJ could have a performance at the Ice Theatre of New York, Brad of Stefan wouldn't likely have been at Windows on the World for the Risk Waters meeting, a lower level person from their organization would be attending and Matt would have been too low. And to be honest, it is unlikely that Brad or Stef would meet a money manager in the manager's offices, the manager would have gone to their suite at The Lowell or The Carlyle.
  14. You are way over thinking this. The WTC was in the financial district, the twin towers were probably 80% financial firms. Anyone you want to knock off could have been visiting Cantor Fitzgerald, Keefe, Bruyette & Woods, Fred Alger Asset Mgt, or any other financial company there. Or they could be attending the Risk Waters Financial Technology Congress that was in the Windows on the World banquet room on the 106th floor of 1 WTC. If you don't want to kill them off you could have them on their way to the meeting and being delayed by a phone call from CA and pissed off they are missing the meeting. There are any number of ways to address it. Yeah parents do take kids out of school for things, but usually not just two weeks into school especially with sports, etc. going on.
  15. No, Kenya, duh!
  16. Damn, I love that song. I miss me my commies. Life was so much simpler when the bad guys were so up front about it.
  17. Ah well consider this. Westfield's USA office is 30 minutes from Malibu, overlooking the 405 freeway. If they were going to go anyplace it would be Sydney where Westfield is headquartered, which in 2000 makes all the sense in the world since the Olympics were there in late September. If they were thinking of investing in Westfield, it would at the corporate level, not an individual mall level. So why on earth would anyone leave low tax Connecticut to go to outrageously taxed New York, specifically even worse taxed New York City? Especially given that major partners like GE, United Technology, etc. are headquartered in CT. Why do you think so many companies are headquartered in Stamford, Greenwich and Norwalk? A week in New York for the kids, two weeks after school starts??? Back to the storyboard.......
  18. I am curious what they are using for sources. Matthew, Mateo, Matthais, Mathieu and many other variations have been popular forever because of St. Matthew. Far be it from me to defend the writers on Cold Case, it is one of the worst, most predictable shows on the air, but Tiffany, somewhat like Matthew, used to be popular because it comes from Epiphany (the holday, not the 'ah ha' moment) so many Catholics named their daughters it and Tiffany jewelry I am sure also made the name more common too. I am sure Mr. Fleming chose the name with good reason. His Tiffany would have been born in the 1930's to be in her 20's in 1955. Maybe you could explore Pussy Galore for us
  19. Happy Lei Day Ho'i hou ke aloha e ku'u aloha.
  20. There would be no reason to go down to the Financial District to shop and certainly not at a mall. Stefan and the shoppers would certainly be on the Upper East Side and Midtown East. NYC shopping is all about 5th Ave from 49th north and Madison Ave to a lesser extent. Stefan would be a well know personality at Bergdorf Goodman, Christian Lacroix, Gianni Versace, Lord & Taylor, etc. Maybe Claire would be too.
  21. While Tiffany may not have been as popular in the 1950's and 60's as it became in the 1980's, it was certainly around, especially in certain cultures. James Bond's love interest in Ian Fleming's 1955 novel Diamonds are Forever, was Tiffany Case (Jill St. John in the movie of the same name) and she would have been in her 20's.
  22. The trappings of royalty and the pomp and circumstances are part of what makes Britain great. It gives the country a unifying theme that goes back for centuries and provides a level of comfort and stability.
  23. I think it should be pretty obvious that the feelings someone have are not a choice, it defies logic that they would be given how much garbage someone who is gay has to put up with. Why would someone choose it?
  24. Besides Mark Arbour, Dom Luka is probably my favorite author. He does a great job with character development. I would start with The Lo(n)g Way or Desert Dropping. Cole Parker on AwesomeDude.com has some great stories as well.
  25. Well I can tell you've never had to pay the staff I meant to comment on this earlier when the discussion was going on about help & staff. No one I knows pays the domestic help (maid) less than $15 an when they are full time or $100 for 3 hours when they come in twice a week. The gardener gets even more, more $25 an hour. And don't even ask what the chef gets (you can pay them less if you call them "the cook"). The same is true for the nanny, she is probably at $25 an hour and the chauffeur is $35 an hour if he isn't armed, at least $50 if he is. Now this all may be just in southern Cal in the wealthy areas, but a husband and wife (maid and gardener) could be pulling $70k a year easily. Certainly enough for a decent apartment, especially if you are splitting with another couple or family (as is common) or maybe a mobile home in Paradise Cove (where Jim Rockford used to live). PS. Mark, really liked the last chapter
