[Topher_Lydon] Carter books
J.T. replied to Topher Lydon's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
I spent the past several days (mainly nights) reading all seven books. I'm almost wondering if there are more to this saga that I'm not aware of (because if there is I'd love to read the rest) This saga took on various turns I hadn't expected. The timelines were somewhat inconsistent, but I chose to ignore some of the dates so I could get on with the plot. The high school drama -> college drama -> let's sprout into a side plot -> work drama -> let's split up the main characters -> hello politics -> hello spy novel was a great show of versatility you gave your characters to perform the way you wanted them to. With the versatility comes with its own baggage, which is that the reader may not identify with every change and twist you make about subtle or obvious changes to the character as time passes on. I believe you have enough material to still write past Book 7, and I'm sure you left it open that way so you could explore it if the opportunity arose. I'd like to congratulate you on a wonderful series and thank you for giving me multiple nights of sleepless nights to keep on reading. Your work just attracted me to keep on reading, and the last few chapters, wanted to see how it "ended" Spoiler In Will's life, besides Andrew, he's always "picked up strays"... Peter had on multiple occasions said he loved Will (but it took Will clear decline to pursue such a relationship due to a teacher-student relationship with a minor...etc etc) but Will still took on Marc as a "Peter - Mark II". Every single time he took on strays, he would unconditionally provide regardless of how much he was inconvenienced. This character flaw developed back when he was a teacher ultimately shaped his willingness to unconditional acceptance (as long as they are not posing immediate danger to themselves) and give unconditional loving care. Peter had similar reactions to how later Marc reacted, but since Peter and Will never dated, the frustration never got to the point where Marc just became a liability for Will. I believe that though he had his own character flaws, this unconditional expression of love, duty, and honor ultimately defined him as the greatest power in politics that he was portrayed as in the saga. These questions for Topher are more for inspiration to see if you would get some ideas on how to keep the saga rolling. I'd love to read more in the future. Thank you for a great reading experience. -

Yeah... you've officially ended my heavy metal streak I've been mostly stuck on (besides various game/movie OSTs) and moved me back to classical... which means I haven't done this since I was still in middle school... so... 11 years or so... kudos for rolling back my tastes in music (now if I had just skipped my year and a half of listening to pop back in the 90s with the damn boy bands and britney spears I might not be so embarrassed about my life... ) I thought about playing Scheherazade back in middle school... the over achieving side of me wanted to do it, but my orchestra teacher thought I was being a pompous ass and benched me to 4th chair sopranos... lol (It meant I got to slack off for the rest of the year though... so that was cool for an 8th grader) -

You could always add a mini glossary at the end of the chapter if need be, but yeah... generally I'm getting most of the terms since I used to play the violin too... -
Great read, it was a pleasure reading this story last night. I really enjoyed Cedric's many twists and turns in the story. I do, however, wanted more development between Joey and Daniel to mend their friendship, but I think that's slightly beyond the scope of the last chapter I guess. I hope you write more stories and after I'm done with my current reading list, I'm going to make it a point to read some of your short stories. Great job! Thank you for a wonderful experience.

That's so sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet... makes me all fuzzy inside.

Reading this story was a blast. I really enjoyed the tickle scenes. For the first time I've been able to read a story with implied sexual activity without either being too prudish that I become disconnected with the plot's development, but not feel like I'm bounced into a porno scene every other chapter. This was a really refreshing perspective that I respect immensely, and while I understand from your other works that I enjoy using the recurring Australia, hiking, swimmers, people who read a lot, shy and unlikely couple magically appear to bond perfectly, I look forward to slightly more plausible character meshing/introductions in your future works. Another plot uncertainty that I've held throughout the plot is that somehow all of the gay guys are on the swim team (besides Ricky and Andrew Crossman) and if you were somehow intertwined with Peter's social circle, you were most likely gay... except the one and only exception being Marty (who couldn't explore his "experimentations" because he knocked up Amy too fast) The other straight members of the swim team all randomly disappeared from the face of the earth at the last chapter. All of the members of the swim team somehow got coerced to all pretend to be gay in public competitions without the judges citing uniform violations that would have most likely resulted in DSQs in all of the participants who wore those pink flags. And every single recurring character somehow got matched together...except Kenny (poor Kenny...) The Andy/Andrew pairing was a bit odd, actually it was completely strange and unforeseen. He had shown no attraction (although that was addressed in the last chapter at how it abruptly started by those tutoring sessions...) but still I find this pair a bit too odd for my tastes. As young as Andrew Crossman is, I still find it nearing statutory rape practically... "praying on innocent high school seniors" so-to-speak, and while yes, they didn't and couldn't do anything until Andy turned 18 and what not, I find the relationship a bit matched too hastily. You've left quite a bit to write about actually, and I expect fully that if you want to, you can totally write a sequel to the story with the same main characters or some sort of a side plot where you can either explore the life of Andrew Crossman's earlier life, his later life with Andy, or even Kenny, Brent, Ricky, or any one of them. I hope you do consider writing another one. It's been a great pleasure reading this story and I hope to read more of your works in the near future. Keep up your great work!

When will they stop copying Minority Report?

Amazing chapter to follow-up to Chapter 19 I read last night. I am amazed again at Luc's sudden boldness in everything. I am glad he didn't just sink back into his bed and held everything in. Unless a significant plot twist happens, I can see how this could be a major turning point for Luc as he develops into a less hidden personality. I am also glad he not only caught the need for Matt not to be alone, but actually followed through with action. Good for Luc!

Thank you for fixing the formatting. I'm glad you posted a new chapter. I was hoping that this story wasn't going to just be another "20-chapter series" and Ch. 19 demonstrated that. I think this chapter provided a nice segue to merge your older and your future chapters. It also provided a new and different perspective/portrayal of Matt. No longer are we seeing this hard outer shell that's like a rock for Luc. This is not only refreshing, but provides a glimpse that each of the characters are finally broken down to their respect cores before they may be rebuilt (and let the light in...so to speak). I'm glad this touching setting allowed Matt and Luc to connect so deeply. I'm wondering why Josh had to keep his eyes closed during the speech. I'm wondering if Josh knew Jonathan back then that made him not able to watch the guy on stage, but rather close his eyes to either clear his mind from flashbacks from when he was a freshman or to block out certain memories. Quite a touching, moving, and vivid chapter. I hope you continue carrying on this story and keep writing! This was the third non-dkstories story I read on GA when I finally became active on here. I'm glad I reread the chapters to catch up and review the storyline a bit. Keep up your wonderful work, and I hope next time when you post you won't have the similar formatting issues you had with posting Ch. 19 this time! ~Jay

Sometimes I review stories too extensively... I've been told next time I want to do walls of text reviews to do it in forum threads instead to facilitate "back-and-forth" communications.

[Krista] Something Unexpected (Completed)
J.T. replied to Krista's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
Hey Krista! I hope you can find some time and edit the story a bit. I read the note saying it was your first story, so I already kept that in mind as I was reading. Plot-wise it was weird to see a sudden burst of "I want out"-ness from Andy between Ch. 2 and Ch. 3 that I didn't really understand the cause of the character development. The last few chapters were a bit more of a cliffhanger than an ending, considering you've just swung multiple angles wide open with Marcus/Andy Outing, what happens to the high school paper "journalist", why Braydon knowingly/unknowingly drugged Andy, and just what the hell happened with Chandler and how he died (...or did he?)... It was a neat way to abruptly end the story without giving much closure, so I'm hoping that you will begin writing the sequel you mentioned above soon (even if it's shorter). Great job, I read the whole thing in about a day and I thoroughly enjoyed it even with the sad "ending". -
I wish I found the story before the eFiction migration happened as well, and I've already sent Andr0gene a PM a couple days back, so I am waiting for him to see if he's reposting. I've already talked to Cia and Lugh about this and we're all waiting for Andr0gene to sign in again to see what they can do from here.

I wasn't going to bomb your email considering you're already have your plate full. Don't worry, I'm not abandoning my story, but I do want Cailen's story to be back up ASAP. It's a great novel and I want people to be able to read it again.
-
Um... I thought I'd hold up until you're done speed editing Cailen's 128,000 words for his Trilogy in Book 1 and his first two chapters of Book 2. Don't worry, I'm sure I can bombard you with more work afterwards
-
I've been told by Cailen that the story is currently being reviewed and edited by Frostina. The chapters are being republished as she finishes. Hopefully Frosty will edit enough to be able to start editing my chapters soon

Get your collective heads out of the damn gutter... you pedos.

This was a great story! The ending was a bit abrupt (and I kind of figured out that his mother found out after he left his entire room unattended for that damn photo paper...) I hope when you get a chance to fix Colorado Game so I can see how this story ties into the other one. I heard it goes in around Ch. 39, so I'm waiting to see new chapters posted for CG past the 15 chapters currently listed. Thanks you again for a wonderful read!
-
Hey Cailen, I just saw the same thing. It looks like 46 out of your 48 chapters are gone from the story queue. What gives? Hope it's a technical issue that can be fixed. ~Fmd

I had to force myself from playing a few games because I was spending way too much time than I wanted to. It was for my own good...

Damn... I just finished reading Chapter 42 on dabeagle and it says 43-44 is coming soon. Does that mean the story isn't done even though the story itself is listed as Complete on GA? What is going on?!

So... for the sake of advising our readers, I have created the Veronica Advisory System. Be on the lookout - be prepared. (Yes, I might have to create one for Beth)
