I use the 'star' story rating part the way I see it, im rating the story ive read / am reading if I want to rate the author, I should rate them on their entire body of work an example of how this works: Author A; 3 stories, 1 is very good, 2 are just ok I will rate up the very good story, but wont give rep points to the author Author B; 3 stories, 1 excellent, 2 very good I will rate up the stories, & give rep points to the author if I had given rep points to author A, it would give a false indication of how good their stories are, whereas by only rating the story, i can highlight which one of their stories is the good one. & heres an example of why the 'rep' system dosnt work very well for authors: KingdombytheSea has; rep of 563 1 story, rated 5 Renee Stevens has; rep of 294 15 stories, all rated 5 this makes it look like the first author is 'better' than the 2nd, even though they have 1/15th of the stories I do think there must be a better way of rating stories & authors. Maybe use the story rating to create an 'author rating', which could be the average of all that authors story ratings, or a combination of all that authors story ratings.

The actual decision; http://www.cbsc.ca/english/decisions/2011/110112.php it explains that the version played is the 'full' version, whereas most people will have heard/will hear the abridged version, which dosnt contain those lyrics. it also explains the reasoning behind the upholding of the complaint the press release; http://www.cbsc.ca/english/documents/prs/2011/110112.php "A listener complained that the word “faggot” is discriminatory to gays. The broadcaster argued that the song had been played countless times since its release in the 1980s, that it has been a very popular song since that time, and that it has won music industry awards. The complainant then pointed out that OZ FM does indeed edit other songs that contain other types of offensive language."

yet the numbers generally show that they havnt this is for homicide/murder: http://en.wikipedia....l_homicide_rate (per year per 100,000 inhabitants ) Cntry 2000 - 01 - 02 - 03 - 04 - 05 - 06 - 07 - 08 - 09 US 5.5 - 5.6 - 5.6 - 5.7 - 5.5 - 5.6 - 5.7 - 5.6 - 5.4 - 5.0 they also have the figures for individual states for 2008 & 2009 missing children: http://www.missingki.../Statistics.pdf 797,500 children (younger than 18) were reported missing in a one-year period of time studied resulting in an average of 2,185 children being reported missing each day. 203,900 children were the victims of family abductions. 58,200 children were the victims of non-family abductions. 115 children were the victims of "stereotypical" kidnapping. These crimes involve someone the child does not know or a slight acquaintance who holds the child overnight, transports the child 50 miles or more, kills the child, demands ransom, or intends to keep the child permanently. (thats for all of the US) thats 'reported missing', so includes kids getting lost, wandering off, not being home by a certain time & parents calling the police even if they are reported missing & found an hour later, they still go into the stats so a child is more than twice as likely to just be 'missing' than 'taken' they are 1773 times more likely to be taken by a family member than a kidnapper this report gives a lot more detail http://www.missingki...t2_overview.pdf eg. Of the estimated 797,500 reported missing children, 31,100 (4 percent) experienced multiple types of episodes. Every reported missing child with multiple episodes experienced a runaway/thrownaway episode and a missing benign explanation episode.

What I would suggest is if authors want to use a different format (not html) to allow people to download whole books, they agree on one format to use. Then readers can download one piece of reader software, knowing that anything they download theyll be able to read. It also makes it easier for authors, as others are likely to be using the same software to create the books, & so can help each other with any problems.

this raises an interesting question!: Which cobra video/s would you have liked to have starred in?

http://www.gayauthor...sid=221&index=1 Book 1 of this story is finished, & the author has stated that book 2 wont be on GA, so for the purposes of efiction the story is finished/completed Chapters: 28 Completed: No Word count: 101993 Read: 25185 Published: 11/13/2006 Updated: 05/13/2007 yet the field for 'completed' indicates no so if I searched efiction for completed stories, it wouldnt find this one now found a story thats only got 2 chapters in efiction, but 8 on the authors hosted page, with no info on the efiction chapters as to that fact. can see how moving to one system for everything will make it so much better

something dosnt add-up with that report http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130781049&ft=1&f=1004 the swimmer told his coach that he wasnt feeling well > why didnt the swimmer himself stop? why didnt the coach insist he stop? how did he communicate with the coach? im assuming his coach was on a course boat, or there were officials on a boat that relayed the message how then does the swimmer get into difficulties & no one notices? to the extent that it took them 2 hours! to find him.

if the character turned pro, they wouldnt go straight to uni after high-school, theyd be picking up sponsors & going on the tour

which isnt what my post was about i wasnt talking about 'in progress' stories i was specifically referring to stories that have been 'abandoned', where there has been no updates for months or years, & with no information whatsoever as to whether there is even any intention to finish the story. if an author has to/chooses to abandon a story, for whatever reason, whats preventing them from at least putting a note up, simply stating that the story has been abandoned? they dont have to state why although the updates arnt frequent, i stick with 'Beloved' as the author has already completed a major story same with 'Circumnavigation' whereas with the example in my first post, that author dosnt have a single completed/finished story on efiction if they come back & start yet another story, why would anyone start to read it, when all the indications are that they wont complete it? if the author had flagged them as abandoned, a reader can at least take that into account, know that there was some issue with the stories, & give the author a fresh start with any new stories they post/publish maybe its something that could be included in tags: completed in progress on hiatus abandoned
-
Abandoned stories - what to do about them? Going through efiction, keep coming across so many abandoned stories, ones that are multi-chaptered, but the chapters havnt been posted, & the authors have disappeared. eg; 1st chapter has this note "There are currently 8 chapters that I will be posting about once a week." Published: 06/16/2010 Updated: 06/17/2010 user Last Active: Jul 25 2010 03:12 PM theres only been the 1st chapter posted Im going to assume that the stories been abandoned, & it makes it a lot less likely that I start reading any of their other stories. Is there any way of 'encouraging' authors to actually finish a story? Could authors flag a story as abandoned if they choose not to finish it? Have authors been emailed about the new publishing system, to inform them that theyll have to move their stories over, & to encourage them to continue? Could readers have a 'please finish this story' button with a rating/feedback system then, say once a week, authors get the stats from that emailed to them I know authors dont get anything from posting stories but, they presumably want people to read their stories, rate them, review them, ie. commit to doing something surely a reader could then have a commitment from an author to do their best to finish a story, or to at least communicate with their readers as to its status?

Why Iraq? its not the only place the US military are in also, Annapolis is 4years so if someone graduated HS in 2005, they wouldnt graduate from Annapolis till 2009 with Annapolis being the other side of the country, isnt it likely that people will have lost contact? Tommy_B has said that they know a couple joined the marines: is that a couple of people from one year of MHS? or just a couple of people from the area? even if it was 2 from the same year at MHS, thats from a year of ~200 pupils, so 1% the Marines were out of Iraq by Jan2010 theyve had a much larger presence in Afghanistan "So then a kid from there WOULD likely have one friend in Iraq- not a ton of friends, but one or two. That makes sense." I think its more likely that they WOULDNT have a friend serving in Iraq or anywhere else. as for which uni/campus someone would end up at, that depends on what theyre studying

Quiksilver (no c) Malibu High School: covers middle & high school grades has a major special-ed needs department (about 10% of the students), covering a range of learning difficulties. they do integrate the students with the general school population. (if your setting a story in the school, would be a nice touch if you included the full range of students, those with special needs do exist) some interesting trivia as your asking about 2005: The film 'Smile' shot some scenes on campus

why oh why oh why does it seem that nearly every main character in high-school/college stories is planning to be a doctor or a lawyer? & if theres 2 main characters/couple, so often theyre doing both! is accounting not gay enough?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epub you could have problems 'publishing' anything in epub format at the moment, as the software required isnt very developed as for the B&N & Amazon tools, they are only usable if you want to sell the book via their stores

  you couldnt write that as a comedy sketch!

They may have dis-advantages in other areas
