It started to clear here about 7:30 and by the time Thistle and I made it to the park at 8 the clouds were gone. It's cool, not forecast to get warmer than the upper 60's and a little breezy. We had a pleasant walk. Hope your weather clears too.

I like how this is progressing. It's fun watching the foodtruck unfold. I find it interesting that Jim didn't ask his mother or Donnie why he was on the street. I suppose he's just waiting for Donnie to tell him when he's ready. If I'm correct Jim's intention is to find another street kid to become the third person in the truck. I'm jumping into the future and imagining a business of multiple foodtrucks staffed by former street kids. I like this, oops I already said that but it bears repeating.

My comment was not meant as criticism. Just as you were unfamiliar so might many if not most of your readers be (I might be exceptional 😁... trust me I'm really not). Including Jim's research is informative and helps develope a sense of how serious he is about making a success of this venture.

The enthusiasm of youth, he'll need it. I'm not sure he realizes just how much work he's in for. The reason the the truck's previous owner traded it should be a caveat. However, Jim seems the sort to work for his dream. He did afterall remain at the old job four weeks. I presume during that time he worked to prep the truck and obtain the necessay permits. It may have been intended as a college fund but having put money aside for their son's future and being willing to spend it to set him on a different path was inspired. Jim's hiring Donnie seems impulsive but then he is 18 and filled with both enthusiasm and compassion. If working in the foodtruck gets him off the streets and fed regularly I think Donnie will work his butt off. There are a number of things an untrained person can do to be helpful, peeling, chopping washing up, etc. until he gains experience. Actually, his lack of experience may be an asset, he has no preconceived notions that contradict Jim's. I want to see these two boys succeed.

I like the concept and start of your story. I would have thought Jim's culinary courses would have given him experience in producing quantities and costing for his potato salad, coleslaw and pickles as well as the amount and costing for ingredients in his sandwiches. Mine did. Buying bulk meats, cheese, bread and produce makes sense but it's far more cost effective to make his own sides. The only reason I can see for him not doing that is a lack of facilities. These however are quibbling issues, including all his research helps readers who don't have a culinary background. I am looking forward to how Jim's adventure unfolds.

Boone's tying up loose ends, trying to make things right before he goes. He's also delaying that talk as long as possible. We learn a bit more about their shared past and what sort of men they are. I liked this chapter.
