Malik has so much on his mind, between the emotions he feels from Naivres and his host family, keeping up with Rhaelce physically and learning how to survive in the wild. I don't envy him. Thank you so much for reading and commenting!

Rhaelce knows nothing of mountains, just the familiar lands that he grew up and learned to hunt in. But you are correct in that he wants vengeance for his sister's death. Malik's motivations are murky at this point, but I think a part of him is more interested in going on an adventure with an attractive new friend than return to the day to day of his life at home where he feels unwanted by everyone. Thank you for reading and commenting!

Rhaelce lives a fairly isolated existence with his family. No mountain vacations for him (I'm more a beach person myself). Thanks for reading and commenting.

There's definitely a bond forming. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Malik is definitely a city boy, lol. He's learning a lot. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Nyrra is probably still too close for comfort. But it's two against one if she finds them. She might feel that she has to stay and take care of her husband and remaining child. But, believing that Malik is responsible for what happened to her daughter, she might decide that revenge trumps anything else. I guess you'll have to read on to see.

It was fun to write Malik and Rhaelce growing closer as well as everyone in the group becoming more comfortable with each other. Thank you for reading and commenting!

It was a hard scene to write. Thank you for reading and commenting!

Malik hadn’t even heard Rhaelce get up that morning, which was quite a feat considering all the leaves that Malik had crammed in there, but he was gone when he went around to rouse everyone when the day had broken enough for them to be able to see their way. Chihiro, and to a lesser extent, Shuza were still groggy from their middle of the night watches and Malik resigned himself to the fact that he and Rhaelce would probably need to trade out the mid-night watches this evening. They had just b

It's cars for me. But yeah, I've heard of people getting sick on planes too. And boats.

That's a ridiculous take. Children need to travel too. My mom had to fly when my sister was a baby and I was young. We were moving from South Carolina to Indiana. My dad had gone up with the only car and moving vans because he had to report to work while she finalized the details of the move. Having a child on a plane is inconvenient, but what part of air travel isn't?

Welcome back. I was also in Utah last week, and while I did see some cuties at some of that national parks, I don't know if they were cute Mormon boys or just cute tourists like me.

That's a cool tidbit! Thanks for sharing this.

Exactly. The fight scene with Malik was one of the earliest scenes I wrote for this story. The failure to protect is a source of guilt and shame for Rhaelce as well. Amocava. His motivations are murky. He does. Thanks for reading and the comments, it's much appreciated.

It was an interesting scene to write. The boys are off on quite an adventure. Thanks for reading and commenting!

A wrinkle indeed. They need a plan and Rhaelce has one. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Maybe Rhaelce is exaggerating (someone accused him of outright lying) or maybe he's being honest. I know which one, but I'm not telling. . Thanls for reading and commenting.

Thank you for the many comments. There was a lot happening here and I'm glad to hear it came across well.

This might sound a little morbid, but I really enjoyed writing the funeral scene. The priest has a lot of authority and if he revokes Malik's protection, there's nothing to stop Nyrra from doing what she wanted from the beginning. Thank you for reading and commenting!

It was well into their second month of trekking on foot and Malik was used to their seclusion and rough living. So when Rhaelce came to a sudden halt around midday and swung out an arm to stop Malik, he was surprised and started to look around, trying to see what had caught the other boy’s attention. Usually, it was something else moving in the woods that they had to check out and either hide, evade, or climb. This time, however, Malik was having trouble figuring out what the issue was. Rhae

Rhaelce set a grueling pace, alternating between a quick trot and full-on running, but Malik found that he didn’t mind. He liked the physical exertion--it dulled the pain while his mind tried to process what Rhaelce had told him. He decided it made some sort of sense. Mythe and Nyrra were grieving parents, and grief turned people weird. His mother turned into a different person after his father had died; had turned too much into drink, drugs and bad taste in men. So, he could ki

If you lost consciousness, make sure to get checked out by a doctor.

Late in the evening, when the shadows grew long and with Arrir and most of the younger visitors put down to sleep, the majority of the group exited the house. Malik followed. The pyre sat fully constructed in a shallow depression in the ground, and there was also a large pile of kindling nearby, arranged for a fire. Some of the men were lighting torches and another man circled the group, offering out small stakes. Malik watched as Mythe, Nyrra and Rhaelce all took one as did Lyr

It's a rough chapter. Nyrra is too deeply mired in her grief right now, but if that changes, it can be bad news for Malik. Thank you for reading and commenting.
