The L word causes some trouble, but not a lot. Conventions are a lot of fun, I went to a lot when I was in college. Now the only time I dress up is for Halloween. I kinda miss it. Thanks for commenting!

Totally agreed. Starting a story is my favorite part, it's once you're in deep and it starts to feel like work, that I really have to slog through it to get to the ending.

Genres that are completely out of my realm can be intimidating. I can totally do light fantasty, paranormal, romance and feel okay about it. But If I had to do a hard sci-fi novel or mystery, that would be extremely challenging. I'm currently working on a story that heavily involves the police and crime, which is thoroughly kicking my ass, but I'm determined to finish it....eventually.

I don't write a lot of character deaths in my stories and if I do, it's usually a peripheral character. However, I do remembering reading a character death in one of the Dark Tower books that really got to me. Like "threw the book across the room, was depressed the rest of the day, didn't pick the book back up for a week" got to me. It can be incredibly powerful when a writer kills off a character that the reader is very invested in. When it's done lightly, or just to create shock value, that's a problem.

I picked up a James Patterson book once, because it was always on a Bestseller's list. It was awful. I remember making it a couple of chapters into the story, then threw it down in disgust and wrote a long email to one of my friends about how awful it was.

Brandon has always been one of my favorite characters and he grows quite a bit by the end of Not The Sun, and continues to grow throughout The In Between and Jabberwocky. I used to work in a bookstore as well. I got so sick of looking at The Da Vinci Code on the bestseller racks for months and months and months.
