I haven't really had John discuss Cecilia much except in the interactions he's had with her as a doctor, have I? Maybe I'll be fixing that at some point. She's a really interesting character in the comics, from my point of view. No spoilers for Christmas - we have one more chapter to go before then anyway. December's a busy month for John in his journal.

December 20 2021 Classes are finished until the New Year, thank god. I’m definitely ready for a break. I’m supposed to be going out for drinks to celebrate later, but I’m so exhausted that I’m questioning whether I should. I guess I’ll take a nap after I finish this entry. So the drugs seem to have done what I needed them to do. I haven’t had any flashbacks since I went on them and my anxiety levels have been numbed. I still have some small spikes here and there, but they are manageable a

Then you might like Barenboim's whole video going through the whole first book of Debussy's Préludes, and a couple other selections:

I agree. I love all the sharing of great stuff, bringing me back to a place I'd mostly left behind in the mess of my PhD studies. Thanks for starting this, A.C., and to everyone who has contributed!

What starboardtack said. This was a wonderful chapter, I could feel all the tension and relaxing. It's a shame Jackson didn't get to do his final, but maybe his relay performance will set him up in as good a light as possible for future meets and scouting. I really liked how you handled the Charlie/Simon vs. Luke/Jackson vs. Drae/Shae dynamics. It really brought out the place their relationships are in along with their individual characters. That little moment of jealousy about the look of the high school was a perfect reminder of what kind of town Jackson is from, and what his high school is like. This was the perfect gift to come home from work to (even if it took me double time to read because my cat kept harassing me!).

Some snowy piano music by Debussy (even though it's switched to freezing rain here today... Bleh!): From the Children's Corner suite, 'La neige qui danse': (As a quick aside, most performers use abundant pedal, but many feel that you should use little - and only half damper when pedal is indicated - otherwise the snow turns into a drizzle more akin to 'Jardins sous la pluie' from Estampes, so I have chosen to show this version where little pedal is used) Now 'Des pas sur la neige' from Book 1 of the Preludes:

Chapter 41 I Tire of Me
Lux Apollo commented on Headstall's story chapter in Chapter 41 I Tire of Me
I know some of those feelings too well. One of life's biggest struggles, perhaps, is self-exhaustion of the psyche. -
Oh man, that ending! :-D The switch in perspective is interesting, even if it was unexpected. I like the difference in Park's voice compared to Deke, and definitely looking forward to more!

Chapter 39 Healer Interrupted

Awesome chapter, I had lots of good visualization of what you were describing. Very cool. :-) -
Thanks Gary! I hate holiday shopping too, once December hits. Unfortunately I'm also someone that struggles to get a handle on things until the pressure is on. At least I'm not a last minute shopper. I think John would have been one of those without the push. I think John knows himself well enough at this point that we can take his seeking out help from Cecilia as a good thing.
-
Aww, don't be too mad at her. Think of it this way: would John have gotten started with his shopping at all before the absolute last minute if she hadn't gave him the push? At least this way he's thinking things through and hopefully will be satisfied with what he ends up picking out for his friends. John will do his best to keep it together, but how successful he is... well, I'll let you be the judge when we get there in a couple weeks.

December 12 2021 Jubilee dragged me out shopping again today. I say again because somehow she managed to blackmail me into driving her around during some of the Black Friday insanity last month. I didn’t write about it then and I am not going to write about it now. Not too much. I avoided writing about it back then because I think I’m traumatized enough to never attempt Black Friday shopping again. Jubes could hold a gun to my head and I’d still say no. Although there was some

So many good little details in this chapter that make each moment stick. Of course, the ending got me going - I doubt anyone could be unmoved by it, even with Lydia pulling maximum Mom power.

And thank you for reading! :-)

Awesome chapter, Gary. All that build-up to the action, and holding out Logan's status as Tilly's earth-mate until the end? Brilliant. Definitely makes me want the next chapter, and want it now!

Thanks Gary! I wasn't actually hung over this year. Just memories.

Carrying a torch is one of those endlessly difficult things. I had one for a friend from long ago that I carried for pretty much all of my teenage and young adult life and only in more recent years have been able to move beyond it. I feel for John, being stuck in that situation where no matter how hard he's tried it won't go away. At least in my case I moved away and have only seen him a handful of times since the end of high school... Maybe there were aspects of this chapter that were a tad personal for me? Ha ha ha.
-
Glad you liked it. Yeah, I don't think John would ever feel like he's the right person for Xavier's chair. He might eventually have some call on the wisdom side, but I doubt he would have a talent for administration like Emma does. John definitely has a lot of fear building walls.

Great chapter Dayne, and thank you for the New Year's gift. Otherwise is so good to see Cory's brothers being there for him as we were pretty sure they would, and now his uncle and grandmother too. So the Card family is a bunch of assholes? Yikes. I guess we shouldn't be too surprised Mr. Card comes by his attitude honestly. What a mindfuck for Cory, though. He needs to get counselling, stat.

People who bend over backwards to help others but are useless with themselves are definitely frustrating, but if they are good mensch then I have no trouble supporting them (when they accept support, anyway... ). John and Bobby will get some alone time soon enough, but we still have more of December to get through first.
-
John definitely needs to learn to trust himself more. I wonder how much of that is rooted in his early life, in staying with Dom for so long, or in just his general life regrets. After everything, even all that time in therapy, he's still very much afflicted by emotional self-harm. John talks about bringing out his old CBT workbook to deal with what's happening with his meetings with Bobby, but I think he needs to use it more broadly than just for that issue. Definitely a good time to celebrate progress and better status for the transgender community in Denmark! Wow, I had no idea that it would match up with something significant like that.

Gloriously golden morning sun Trying to kill me, blinding With the retinal pain Of a night well wasted A body exhausted Despite adequate sleep Skin feeling dry and crusty A warm shower longed Breakfast? No acid please. Greasy and heavy, Double up the caffeine. Or should we start with A Bloody Mary?
