Cat person or dog person? Just curious to see what kind of distribution we have here. Me? I'm totally a cat person!
-
Love it! And it's making me giggle with joy since I just adopted a kitty myself a couple weeks ago.
-
Love it! I'll have to check out the rest when I am home from work.

Criminal came on the radio while I was driving today... loved this song ever since it was released in high school.

After the day I had today, I feel like Francis Poulenc's piano work Mélancolie would be soothing. Yeah, definitely. For some reason people can't seem to move past the label of 'light-hearted and irreverant' when it comes to Poulenc's music, but that is entirely unjustified when you look at the entirety of his oeuvre, especially his operatic and religious works.

One thing about Bobby is that like his ice he can be incredibly transparent with his emotions, but when their motivations become more complex things are less crystalline and become more amorphously opaque with internal cracks, bubbles and inclusions. I don’t think there really is any reason to speculate about Bobby's sexuality. If we jump out of wishful thinking mode there really isn't anything to suggest much other than Bobby knowing he fucked up. Character flaws aside, he is a good person at heart. He's redirecting his anger and frustration with himself onto John, that much is clear. He definitely deserved it. We will be seeing more of the boys, for sure.

A beautiful culmination of feeling; I feel spoiled. So warm (and sexy!). I like that you allow their personalities to shine through even in these most intimate of moments. Can't wait for the next one! :-D

I think we can definitely conclude that John's so stuck on his own internal monologue that he can fail to acknowledge what he sees happening around him until it is completely undeniable. It's probably a defense mechanism as much as anything else, and we know Bobby is someone who makes him retreat back behind his castle walls, readying a hail of arrows and boiling oil to ward off those who would threaten and trespass. I'm glad you are continuing to enjoy things! Thanks for the read and review.

October 21, 2021 Well, it happened. That big blow-up between some of the students that Emma had predicted finally came to a head yesterday. I still have shit for luck, apparently, because it started right outside my classroom. I heard the yelling starting so I went out into the hall. I don’t know which one started it, and I don’t really care, either. That’s Emma and Sean’s problem. So I get out there just as one of the kids surrounds his body in flames and starts tossing th

Chapter 1 - It's All In The Family
Lux Apollo commented on Cynus's story chapter in Chapter 1 - It's All In The Family

Excellent chapter - such real reactions and responses. The boys have a lot of work to do supporting Cory right now, and I bet Efrain is going to need some managing as well. He got lucky with his own family so he will have a different perspective, not to mention his personality being what it is. Then again, when confronted with Cory in his broken state he made mostly the right moves. Now if only he could break through the mental barrier with the words he is struggling to admit, let alone say out loud... We'll get there, eh?

Thought I'd bring up a Canadian composer tonight. Healey Willan was born in Britain, but emigrated to Canada. His works made him a rather monolithic figure in the history of Canadian music, through his positions at the University of Toronto, the Royal Conservatory, and at the St. Mary Magdelene church where he was organist and built it into a choral and church music mecca. This piece is considered by many to be his finest organ work, and was composed after a challenge from a friend. I'd say he definitely rose to the challenge.

Great chapter. And now I can only have but fear that asshole of a father will give them away to Barrett. Maybe I'm too much of a pessimist?

Tristan's Lament - a sad song from a composer so dead we don't even know who they were. This song was found in an Italian manuscript and appears to have ties to one of the many versions of the Tristan and Yseult legend.

And in comes the Cavalli cavalry! 32 years does a lot for the development of an art form, so I see Cavalli as an entirely different (and wonderful) beast. One would think that Monteverdi would have continued to evolve with the times... That's an interesting performance you've chosen, Northie. At times I feel like the director has chosen a more modern legato/cantabile smoothness in the orchestra where a more articulated execution is demanded for period authenticity - this is mostly in slower passages, but there are other places where the choices for bowing in the strings confuses me... The staging, though, is very cool.

Thanks fo much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

It's definitely something John's needed for a long time, long before he broke up with Dom, and long before they even got back together after Dom left jail. I'm glad it's making good sense to someone reading from 'the outside'. :-)

This just gets more and more intriguing!

Infinite warm fuzzies! I guess this closes one story arc and now we move on to the next - finding mates and dealing with the hunters, I assume. I wonder how much insanity is passed from generation to generation in the hunters? And Dane and Mace! You granted one of my story wishes! This chapter was a nice, flowing denouement away from the tension of the last two chapters. Can't wait to see what'she next for the boys!

Okay, I told you I was going to read this tomorrow, but I couldn't wait. And my cat woke me up when he jumped off the bed to go get some water. This was an awesome ending to Devin's first year of college. I liked how bittersweet things were, all these contrasts between moments of happiness and frustration, between being a stronger person and the still-inevitable grip of insecurities and immaturity. I think it's very much a common set of feelings for people finishing their first year of undergraduate studies. That year is a roller coaster, and the perspective coming out the other side a complex and reflective thing, at least for those who care enough to contemplate their own sense of self. Great stuff!

Tonight/this morning I have an excerpt from one of the most peaceful Requiems composed in modern times, that of Maurice Duruflé. He superimposes Gregorian chant melodies over some sumptuous, caressing and enchanting textures from the organ and orchestra to create a beautiful post-modern sound-world. Though, I guess it's a bit of a premature thing to call the work post-modern as work on it began in 1941 as a commission from the Vichy regime, and finished in 1947 after the war - well before Po-Mo truly became a thing. Here's the Agnus Dei section:

Cimarosa's stuff was always fun to play on the piano when I was doing lessons still... Maybe I should hit up IMSLP and have some fun with his works this fall. I'm due for some new rep anyway...

David and his mom have an interesting relationship that I will be exploring more at a few points in the story (hopefully). His relationship with her has been shaped very much in the context of what his father was like, and his adult relationship with her especially so after his father's period of rejection. I think Brady did notice his slip, but was in that state of paralysis afterwards realizing what he had just let out of his mouth. I think if David had given him a minute he would have tried to damage control, but it was definitely the wrong thing to say both at that moment and in general when it comes to David. Next chapter we'll be hearing from Mike about his career and the situation at his current job. The question is how David will react and what sort of compromises they will reach (or not!)...

October 16, 2021 I ended up hanging with Jubes almost all day today. She tried to recruit me to help her with shopping for some new Hallowe’en decorations for the School this morning, and of course I tried to beg off. I mean, seriously, why the fuck would she have thought I’d be even remotely interested in helping with something like that? It turns out it was just a lame excuse to get off campus, just the two of us. She said she’d pay for lunch, so I made a big deal of sigh

It seems like David may have experienced (whether by circumstance or by subconscious choice) a withdrawal from his social network while he was unemployed. He and Mike are at that stage in life where people are really concentrated on their careers and young families, and are at that age when going out after work is starting to be less of a reality. We can see over the last few chapters that he's starting to push forward with a hobby and friends agenda between Rain, the racquetball club and maybe some other things too. I wonder how these efforts will intersect with Mike's needs?
