  1. Thanks, Bill. At 73, I can relate to everything you wrote. (but I still feel like there is this 16-year-old trapped in this old body!!!)
  2. Al Norris

    Chapter 1

While this story is about Peter, you will see some sides of Peter's uncle that mystify him.

    Prologue

To be fair, most mines on the eastern slope of the Sierras produce gold, silver, and a small bit of uranium. Water is a hard-to-come-by product on that side. Sometimes you get lucky and can have a well. Many times, it has to be trucked in.
  4. Enough of you encouraged me to start posting here, and I finally did it! I don't know how 'polished' my writing is, but I hope you enjoy the roller coaster ride that is Peter's life in his new home and school. I restricted access to members only mostly because of the single sex scene and the multiple fight scenes. As for this being a 'tearjerker,' I suppose that will be up to you, the reader!
  5. @R. Eric - The sound frequencies you've used would be lethal to organics and possibly vibrate inorganics to their component molecules. Normal human hearing is from about 20 hertz (Hz) to 20 KHz (K = kilo = 1000). Most assuredly not in the megahertz (MHz) range. Love the Star Trek references. I never want to be a Red Shirt!

    Chapter 1

WOW! I guess all these years of being an editor and doing a bit of ghostwriting have paid off! Thank you kindly, sir.

    Prologue

Thanks @Summerabbacat for your response. But the character is just a bit more "tetched" than the real thing. Not by much.

    Prologue

Hmm, did I sound heartbroken? They say you should write what you know best... 😁
  9. Al Norris

    Chapter 1

San Bernardino is not the easiest place to grow up in. Peter is tough, he had to be.
  10. Al Norris

    Prologue

This is only the third site where the story has been posted. I suspect it was over at Tim's site. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the story the second time around, Ivor.

    Prologue

LOL!!! The character was patterned after my real mother.

    Prologue

Thanks for reading. I hope you like what's going to be coming up. Peter's life is anything but smooth.
  13. Being the oldest and growing up in a large family can be hard, especially when you are gay and the family is extremely homophobic. You are constantly being compared to your deceased father. A man whose stature and deeds are always increasing, as time goes by, and are held up as your goals. Anytime you reach those goals, your mother moves the goalpost further away. You never seem to measure up. You are always being told that you are worthless and will never amount to anything since you cannot measure up to your father. It never mattered that you were a straight "A" student and that you were an athlete.
  14. Good news! Greyhound does run on Christmas Day! Bad news… It is a local and goes up to Sacramento, then over to Reno and Salt Lake City, with a stop in Elko. And everywhere else in between! More bad news. It leaves at 9 pm and takes almost a whole day to get there. It’s a good thing I have the cash for the ticket and the meals I will need. It took me almost an hour to walk to the bus station. Even though my suitcases had wheels, I was tired. And hungry. With all the crap that had gone down
  15. It certainly wasn’t the “Best of Times.” The fact is, times haven’t been good since the day my dad was buried. It’s been so long since he was killed in the mining accident, that it is getting harder to remember him or those happy times when our family was whole. My dad was a miner. He was partnered with his brother, Uncle George. Together they had two gold mines they worked on the southeastern slopes of the Sierra Nevadas. While we weren’t rich, we didn’t lack for many things. Uncle George

    Chapter 11 S2

Very nice prelude to Christmas... Especially the Cat Serenade they gave their neighbor before they left for home!

    Chapter 17

Roland just got through whining to me 'cause he didn't know if he could make his upcoming battle scene as well as Kyle makes them! 🤔🤣
  18. Al Norris

    Chapter 17

That wasn't just any Elf, that was the goddess Syria. I am glad you decided to come along for the ride! I'm not at all sure if they will meet Kandric & crew or Xavier and friends first!
  19. Umm, it's called a briefing. That's where you tell your protection agent everything you know (or suspect) about the threat. You don't assume the agent knows anything. The agent will listen to everything you say and never tell you he already knows something you just related. Essentially, neither side of the briefing assumes anything.
  20. Well, that was certainly interesting. Horrifying, if one didn't expect the paranormal/supernatural. RMW knows things that would likely help Jamie. So, I believe our beloved Minister needs to start explaining things to Jamie. From his demeanor, I don't expect him to, however.
  21. Al Norris

    Chapter 4

So we know what the project is. We meet the Baron Evans. So far, nothing nefarious. Just an interesting chapter, overall. Waiting for a shoe to drop...
  22. Al Norris

    Chapter 5

Submarine races? Gads! I haven't heard that term in ages!!! 🤣
  23. Al Norris

    Chapter 5

Sometimes when I read these high school stories, I almost wish I had stayed in and graduated... Then I think about it and realize I'm glad I never had to go through that stuff. Marine Corps Boot Camp was much more interesting!

    Chapter 10 S2

As long as any of them are in the area, or can be in the area, they can make it a tradition. Nice interlude, Bill. I agree with the others, if Devin decides to play Superman again, he must change his features! In 1991, at the behest of the U.S.M.C. Toys-for-Tots became an official 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity. It was created in 1947 by Marine Reservist Major Bill Hendricks. In 1996, the SecDef made the program a part of the official mission of the Marine Reserves.

    Chapter 16

Yes. When Ornam was talking to Vondom, it was about the games they won. Nothing was said about riding in an actual war. However, Roland and Kyle say I'm even wrong there. While Dragon Riders may not be common, apparently they all do it. @drpaladin is also correct about the ring. It was a prop.
