Finally! -
1. What are the first 2 items on your store list? The things that you absolutely MUST get the next time you go to the store? 2. What’s the last nice thing you did for someone else? 3. What is your quirkiest habit that makes other people crazy? 1. I make a beeline for the oranges first then proceed to the veg stirfry (its not realy a list more an ever evolving system) 2. I helped a mum get her baby & pram down the steps at Clapham Junction on wednesday. 3. I hope that I promote sanity not hinder it however If something is a complete mess I have to bite my tounge very hard to prevent that opinion comig out, e.g. student kitchens. (Dont have to deal with that for 3 months!)

I think I remember Mark writing that George often makes them shower and shave, for hygiene of course, his own personal enjoyment is just a bonus.

Circumnavigation 76: Demons of the Id
BeysJoshersLepton V2 replied to C James's topic in C James Fan Club's Topics
Been looking forward to this all week and it certainly did not diserpoint. My mind initially glossed over the "demons" aspect of the chapter and just saw the Id, cheered thinking libido then saw the demons part! It was bound to happen eventually, it just shows the huge amount of fortitude trevor has in lasting this long. I wouldn't of made it above the waves when the ordeal started let alone everything hes accomplished, I don't imagine he can have a full breakdown for sake of the story but I can certainly see a severe panic attack. I know you mentioned that he has been avoiding things around Atlantis but the fact hes even on a ship, swimming in open water are very possitive signs for long term recovery. Once the relationship with his father is resolved (assuming it will be), the cathartic effect it will have in regard to all the worry hes internalised, in combination with his strong freindship groups are all factors for mental health. It was also nice to see Jim & Dirk back in Florida, the discussion of him being a relic at only 37 and drag was a good way to slightly lighten the mood despite the storm after yet another cliff hanger back in Australia. -
1997 was the last time we won and will remain the last time we win honestly I dont think we deserved to win this year but the fact Jedward placed higher. Their costume looked like they had stolen a half finished set of shoulder pads from Lady Gaga, realy liked the Swedish guy to one of the best of the night. Graham Norton had the odd decent line also through out the night " wow, make up works miricles because that was a different face in rehersals " to the presenter etc.

Everytime I watch/read something to do with the diffusion of responsibility it does make me cringe. I suppose the hope is that if enough people know about these tendencies it can reduce the chances of it happening again. As for who people listen to and being the lead social "person" often requires persuassion there are many factors which play into it. There credibility, trustworthiness, attractiveness, similarity, wether or not whats being said impacts the audiance directly (often why as John put it 'girl bitching') all of these and I'm sure ive forgotten a couple play into the alpha male/female of the group being created.

To me a person is simply the collection of their subjective experiance on this planet. Yes to some extent genes have an influance on a persons natural ability but we've long since moved past the nature v nurture debate at least in psychology. As for why we miss treat each other I hold alot of worth to the idea that people project their own insecurities or short comings onto others to divert away from their own inadequacy. People who have been mistreated by others previously will also (not always) want to experiance what it felt like to be the one doing the mistreating as a means of experiancing power. As for what I dislike, I've never liked the whole say something behind a person's back/gossip thing some people enjoy doing. If you have an issue tell it to the person, more often then not it can be resolved.

Circumnavigation 75 :The Night of the Mob
BeysJoshersLepton V2 replied to C James's topic in C James Fan Club's Topics
This is borderline literary torture and for the record this has to be a new cliffhanger record with the Trevor/Shane situation. Enjoyed Shane's mini story/prank, bit worried that Trevor is gonna end up having to think about the pirates alot.... causing a flashback and him having a panic attack in the water. This then leads to Shane having to resuce him giving mouth to mouth and well i'll leave the rest to you . -
I have to agree with 30 also I certainly would not see myself as old but no longer would I think I was young. I dont even see 30 as middle aged, its just an interesting period between young and the dreaded 40 were everything stops working if comedys will have you believe.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
BeysJoshersLepton V2 replied to K.C.'s topic in The Lounge
Went through a few interests, when I was 5 I wanted to be a power ranger, so my parents got me a costume and I would often leap in the air & off high objects. This stopped when I changed my mind to be police man, then at 9-11 I wanted to be an accountant God only knows why. During my early teens I didn't realy have something I wanted to do, at 14 I became interested in forensic work because I thought the job looked cool on a show called 'Waking the Dead' which we had over here. Then I finally found psychology at A-level read around the subject and found my calling, therapy work. -
I imagine this topic must of come up before but I read this story and it put such a smile on my face. http://www.azcentral...ids.html?page=1 I have often asked myself if I could adopt, were I stand at the moment is well no. For me currently I cannot honestly say with full conviction that I would love an adopted child as much as my own.

As far as I am aware it was cultural leanings influancing the art fashion of the time, large penises were meant to be comical rather something to be displayed on a statue. From a concious or unconcious point of view, I imagine it could of been done to ensure the males of the time did not feel of a smaller stature compared to a work of art.

Against The Machine - re:CREATED
BeysJoshersLepton V2 replied to Riley Jericho's topic in Stories Discussion Forum
Riley this is the first book I have read here which i've found unsettling. I mean this in a good way, I can honestly see this happening if the technology became avalible to certain ideologies. It would solve all of what is considered deviant behaviour and would be so cost effective compared to traditional methods. The idea a machine could change my personality & being is so unnerving which is why its such an excellent story. It goes beyond the standard worst case scenarios with 'machines' destroying stuff because it makes you compliant, you have not lived up to societies demands and have been found wanting so we will change you at your very core. I have found with alot of my clients/case history if everything they divulge became public it would change everything for them because how they see themselves and what they keep from everyone is realy the only thing they have left in many cases, which is why confidentiality is so vital. For something to steal, mold and change this has very deep implications. -
CAP Series and 9/11
BeysJoshersLepton V2 replied to Mark Arbour's topic in Mark Arbour Fan Club's Topics
I cant pick anyone to be killed, yeh I could pick characters who are not the main characters but it would be meaningless to me. As much as I dont want anyone to die, Marks never been one for pulling punches, many characters over the saga have died, be it in war, accidents, murder. The date in question as we all know was the first major catalyst in the 21st century to change the course of history. It is for this reason as its all unfolding I see anything as a possibility, remember this is not your average family. Jets can be called on a whim, tutors hired for children if somethings happening in New York that Stef wants everyone to see. I'm guessing of course, but we've still a way to go yet till 9/11 judging by the pace, who knows what may happen as a precursor to the event. The only parallel I can think of to compare the direction this could go is JK Rowling (yes I know witches and wizards are slightly different). She was going to Kill Arthur Weasley but gave him a last minute reprieve and instead killed Remus and Tonks. It is the only thing I think she did wrong, Arthur's death would of given Ron a more visceral reason to fight which would of worked brilliantly in the novels, but I think big profits through the movies won in the end. I hope I got the point I was going for across -
Tipdin I can fully understand your reasoning especially in regard to wanting children, I do want to be a father and I know its not going to be as straight forward (pun intented) as it could be. If I am honest with myself and I was born 50/60 years ago I dont think I could of been on the front lines of fighting for gay rights and certainly wouldn't be who I am today. Its easier for me to take up the torch so to speak with the ground work done now, feel confident to say who I am to anyone and speak about gay rights & current inequalities we still face. Its vital to remember the forerunners who have allowed it all though so thank you, your story well realy got to me.

Normaly I find myself at odds with fiction set in the past as I know whats coming as it has to follow certain set frameworks in recorded history. I've yet to feel that with any of the Granger stories, and when I think how can the quality be kept so consistent for so long you manage chapter after chapter. I certainly needed a revision break so thank you, I also got a laugh from it to, just as the cabin scene was going to start my laptop died and had to recharge it....

I agree that we are from a very early age conditioned through operant conditioning & in some cases this may even mean chastisement. The adult world conditions through social stigma, law, social standing etc but this training to behave in a certain way does not remove freewill because you only have to look at the world to see they are not all mad men. You are right in that by examing an individuals habits through longitudinal means you can attain a prediction but never know with certainty. I understand however why you wish to talk about an informed conscious action rather then freewill due to the nature of our previous learnt experiances. I think we differ on our meaning of freewill, I know I am conditioned not to steal or be disobedient to my mothers but the choice for me to do so especially the latter has occured and may again occur in the future. It is this possibility to act differently no matter how small and regardless of conditioning which gives freewill in my opinion, its all relative these definitions. I do not think anyone has been alive however with your view of freewill, free from all forms of conditioning or social restraint. A person without that would have no connection to anyone or anything and even though it may sound they could do as they please I would imagine their wouldnt be anything which pleases them because even personal gratification means conditioning on some level. I also still stand by the necessity of freewill for moral accountability. In regard to being gay well I will admit to being a slight biological determinist, Its as much a part of me biologically as say my cognitive abiity, It would not matter if I lived to be 300 there would be a ceiling on how much I could develop what I know. Edit: Yes I am aware of Asch's conformity experiments, and the fact no scientific research has confirmed freewill without influance from society or biology of our brains.

But we can choose to not eat daily e.g. fasting or a protest. An individuals routine from the past does not mean they will do the same thing in the future 100% it is a high probability I will eat tommorow or enjoy some vodka being saterday but I may not. In terms of emotional obligations to someone these can still be said no to if you wanted to. Accepting work you dont like for money however is just part of the social contact you have agreed to, people pick up and leave and do anything they want out of the blue everyday in society. I agree the majority of people are social animals but some people naturally are withdrawn or shy or some choose no human contact at all.
-
We have no choice but to have free will. The choice of actions we can make are limited and influanced by other individuals but they themselves made their choices because of their free will. I know it almost sounds like I am making an argument for determinism however at any point in the chain of events you or I can go off on a tangent in principle and alter the course. If you claim you cannot alter the course then the whole of society realy wouldnt work. Not only does it become a self-fulfilling prophecy, you didnt choose to go down a new path it was a predetermined anyway which I've always thought was a very weak argument in philosophy and various other feilds. It means no one is responcible for their own actions which is the foundation for the majority of the worlds judiciary. How can those be punished who are not compus mentis, they could justify insanity if they had no control over their actions, it would also stretch into civil proceedings to. In addition morality becomes an issue without freewill, the state of various countries globally, I also imagine it would do even more damage to people who have to suffer at the hands of abuse. There is more but as this is only a preliminary I'll wait for that $10 exchanged in to sterling because alot of people love philosophy. Edit: Beat me by one minute!

http://youtu.be/HtDdb4-wlzA This sums it all up realy, it can be hard to find but in the end its always worth it because Love is all you need. (yes food, water and shelter help but they are normally part of Love anyway)

Gay Cavemen and homosexuality in the past?
BeysJoshersLepton V2 replied to W_L's topic in The Lounge
Its a stereotype but come on people someone had to design those fur boots, fur chest peices with the leather pelt loin cloth from some big cat. Considering what we had to work with back then we made it work. -
We have a ginger cat called Jasmine & my two younger brothers who despite being over the age of 13 still act like animals now and again

I havent finished reading it yet but Daniel's experiance with the counsellor is shocking to say the least. The level of ineptitude displayed by him to get Daniel to go back to the experiance without laying any ground work before hand or saftey nets is astounding and in the first 15 minutes. I wish I could I say it does not happen but the stories and case studies I have read this year indicate some counsellors/therapists do not continue with any real training the second they finish their degree regardless of their own inexperiance or level of degree. I have cheated and looked at the reviews above so glad to know it does work out from what I can gather in the end.

More humor then anything else but do enjoy John Lennon's version to.
