Religion or eviction and don't taint the little ones, -so common, so hypocritical. At least there was no violence like there so often is. Ethan's going to move in with Liz and I like that. A séance too, and that's cool but of course in this case could also spell disaster. Whatever happens, I doubt it'll be dull.

I'm apprehensive, wondering what Allen's done.

This chapter offers us another voyage. Will it be a trip to indetermination, or does it offer Caleb a destination? I'm not sure that wily Orpheus even knows, since Caleb has surprised him more than once before. He is a very clever boy after all.

That is a powerful chapter. Self analysis of the painfully blunt kind. I have been there before a few times and you've conveyed it very well. It hurts but must be done so that we can move forward. I can only hope Jake's meeting with Eddie goes well.

After reading this chapter I tried to recall if any story I've ever read about a character dying, going to Hell and coming back to the land of the living ever ended happily, and none of them do. Despite all the events under the sun happening in this life, Caleb and Orpheus are shadows over Ethan's existence, and always will be. Ethan has a seemingly gentle life going on. Liz is about to have a baby and all that. There's more to come and I wonder where he'll will go next. He's already been to Hell and back, so what now?

I'm relieved that Joey's back in school and back at Ticker's house. Nobody except the bully boys seems too concerned about where he's been or what he's been doing. I do wonder how Allen will react to what he saw Joey doing with his client. Should put a new light on their friendship.

Jake needs to confront reality. Things are sometimes exactly as they seem, and there's a lot of bad stuff that's holding him back. The baggage of life they call it. Growing up means decisions, -his own. If he does nothing, then it's his own fault. He's not his mother. He just needs to realize that and move on from there.

Dragons, dragons where and when you least expect them. I am most concerned about our young fledgling dragon boy injured and passed out on the guest bed in Torsten's house. I hate trophy hunters. Jimmy and Bubba got what they deserved. Oh, and you just proved all my theories wrong by the way. That wasn't really a surprise though.

Both Allen and Joey need so much help, that by joining forces they can maybe become stronger together. It's working at the moment and that's all that can be hoped for, and hope is what they both need as much as anything.

You did well with the senses, also with the melancholy that creeps into our daily lives when we least expect it and all it takes is some small something to tip the balance. -
Denial and procrastination are what Orpheus runs his existence on. He won't accept the terms of the Underworld and has wired around them to cope. That has been his way to go on and has kept him from having to make any changes to things for a long time. I feel sorry for him too, even though by now it's really his own fault. That's how I see the situation, -at least for now.

Short chapter, not sweet. All that we've learned is that Caleb sees through Orpheus' laid back façade and knows his options are disappointing. Will he give up hope that he'll ever be with Ethan again?

I'm not a fan of this mean version of Orpheus, I like the charming, guitar playing one better. He certainly burst Ethan's little bubble, didn't he? Thankfully I see that you've posted the next chapter already so there's no need to wait and see Ethan's reaction because I don't have an idea what he's going to do next.

2-10 - Sobriety is For the Living

I wonder what kind of parents Liz & Jake will make. That would be interesting, ...but another story. Ethan is in trouble and is losing control. I can see that he may make a huge mistake, or blunder onto something brilliant. Meanwhile Caleb suffers in the Underworld. I'm curious to see where this story will go next, knowing quite well that I'm enjoying it more than your characters, -except maybe Orpheus. -
Jake? Shady dope-dealing Jake has powers? I'm not sure I like or trust him at all, although Ethan can use the support if Jake will do what he's supposed to do. Liz's drive seems to have faded, so maybe she could use some help too. I do wonder what skills Jake got from his hippie-dippie father. Those flying, fucking cucumbers make me think of Disney's Fantasia and The Sorcerer's Apprentice part with all those wicked dancing brooms...

I feel so sad for Joey, sitting on that cold, desolate bridge. He can't see any good options, only bad ones. Maybe he has reached rock bottom, at least for him. He really needs help right now and I can only hope he gets it fast.

I think Gandolf is right by calculating both areas, subtracting the void and dividing in half, but that's only math. Cake is CAKE and that really matters. I love a good carrot cake with cream cheese icing, nothing else like it.

As dismal as Joey's life is, he has a giving nature that makes him try and help other people even though almost everybody's mean to him. He also realizes that he's not alone in his misery, and his life probably isn't as bad as some people he meets. I admire him for his kindness and empathy. He hasn't given up either and that's another thing in his favor.

I thought about Ethan's journal too. Looks like he'll keep it for now.

So Ethan does remember his last conscious moments in the park and Caleb's kiss. I wonder about Caleb's parents and how they are dealing with their son's death. We know what happened to him but what do they think happened? Now Ethan wants to go get Caleb and presumably bring him back. All this will probably make Liz swear off magic forever, or maybe just be more careful about what she asks for and think twice before playing with fire, getting burned and all that...I'm loving this story by the way.

I love this story, set in an era that I enjoy reading about. I've always been partial to mystery and adventure fiction, especially when all ends well and the loose ends are all neatly tied up. You did all of that and more here and with only a slight nod to the supernatural. You have a wonderful gift.
