I'm not a troll. It says so in the FAQ.

Is it okay to give constructive criticism in reviews and author forums
Lugh replied to Sidd's topic in The Lounge
Hosted & promising authors have their own forums and other interested authors have threads where they solicit the kind of feedback they are looking for... if you want to give "stronger" feedback, or have a discussion with the author (and other readers) over a point in the story that might be the way to go. -
Is it okay to give constructive criticism in reviews and author forums

hey concrits are welcomed by quite a few people.. I give them WHEN ASKED or if I know the author is ok with them in public, else I keep them private because sometimes they can be difficult to swallow. here is one exmaple of a writer who gets concrits by asking for them: https://www.gayauthors.org/story/Marzipan/joyride_fantasy_sexcom/reviews that is just one of her stories. There are others, I'm not listing them all here. The thing is we have a lot of very new authors and some of them are too thin skinned to say too much negitive to without scaring thier fagile writer's egos. So we try not to do that. Bring it on... there are some of us who can take it. -
It's nearly November. For most people in the USA that means sacrifice the birds! It is the beginning of the annual family overdose, crowded malls, endless bombardment of "buy me or feel guilty for disappointing your loved ones" advertising, too much turkey, fattening a goose, and other strange but once a year customs that you put up just for the sake of traditon and (sometimes questionably) loved ones. For me, November also means a total break from sanity -- and a chance to overdose on caffine while being sleep deprived -- in the form of NaNoWriMo. For those of you who don't know, that means National Novel Writing Month. It is promoted as a contest by the Office of Light and Letters and the goal is to produce quantity over quality and to silence the inner editor for one month while shoving 50,000 words out of your head. Fifty Thousand NEW words that is -- not an old project -- a new one. That equates to One Thousand Six Hundred Sixty-Seven new words A DAY. This year I have decided to attempt to produce a rough draft of my Novella for the Secrets Can Kill Anthology. I hope you join me.

I've added 2000 words to the story I'm editing which has equated to a new chapter. There were 276 comments, there are now 238. So I guess... go me.

thanks guys, I decided to just outline it and shove it in the story ideas folder. Lets see how long it stays there.

LOL me too Renee! Sometimes I think the story deserves a chance but then again sometimes I think I should just be done with it. I've been waffling for so long... problem is, I love the main character. He's hard to get out of my head sometimes and he's getting whiny again. W_L, I have a couple unfinshed stories on this site... two that need to be finished, that I want to finish which haven't been worked on in a while (Erebi and A Moment in Tine). One that is series of stories that will be worked (Catara's Universe) on after I finish It Was A... which is coming to a close. I have a pair of stories I am working on for a special project. One needs a lot of work. I don't know... Maybe I can do it. Maybe I should do it. Just take next year and work on finishing stuff. Cia, what do you think? After I finish these projects should I work on the old stuff? They will take a lot of work.

LOL you're welcome. Yeah I'm thinking about clothing too. Again all part of the physics I think. The whole mass thing.

I've been punting around this were idea I've been having but I don't want your typical were-creature. Werewolves, werecats, etc are soooo over done. So I was thinking about some other type of creature. I've also seen snakes, seals, bears, and rats in various literature. Anyway... what about a wolverine? Mongoose? some sort of insectoid? I've been trying to think of the pros and cons of each, why they would be "best" for a were. That sort of thing. Most of it comes down to mass. Large mammals mass > or = human mass easily. Small mammals < humans mass. Insectoids are not even comparible unless they are huge. Then the question becomes what happens to the extra mass? Is there a ratio that I can use that makes it workable? Or should I not worry about the mass and call it "part of the magic of the werebeast"? Guess I will need to think about this some more.

heh I get things like toliet paper, paper towels, ziplock baggies, eggs (two dozen for just over the price of one), bread (two loaves for the price of one and a half), milk (a dollar less than the grocers!), rice, potatos, and onions in #20 bags and various meats and frozen veggies... buy in bulk... it's no joke if you have the storage space. Not to mention all the other stuff they carry whoot a dozen socks -- $8! Have fun Comic

It's been twelve days since my last update... I edited 42 pages with a first pass, it's off to a primary read, then going into a full edit. THAT is going to be fun. The FAQs are 2/3 to 3/4 done. I think i've gotten all references of "happy points" or +/- out of them... if you see it let me know.

In the beginning there is a blank page and along comes an Author. The Author seeks into the primordial ooze of imagination and finds and idea. After roasting it for a proper amount of time, the idea is found good... and it is written. The question becomes.. what is the proper amount of time? I have stories I can kick out in a few hours -- little one shot flash fiction type things that need no editing to speak of -- and I have stories that I have been working on for nigh on twenty years. One story in particular keeps cycling back to the forefront of my mind every so often. This is actually one of the first stories I ever wrote with a real plot and real characters and they live in my mind at times so real I could see them... sighs, really, I'm not that crazy. I know I've been focusing on a lot of other things, but should I take time out of my schedule next year and kick this one around some more? Or should I just leave it alone and see if it will die a natural death?

vacation day... hopefully it won't be as confusing and it's not going to be an anthology. I'm not going to do another It Was A for an anthology.. they've grown too complicated for that now.

sheesh time management is not a myth... I buy hamburger in 10+ lb chunks and fry it up to "pink' drain it, and seperate it up into serving sizes... then freeze it. When we need a quick meal, I pull it out and it takes half the time to cook (no fry time) and it's still 'pink' enough to properly season for something like hamburger gravy or "one pan meals" (not always out of the box Cia) I do whole chickens the same way.... why bake one when you can bake 2-4 at the same time? they freeze and then can be reheated in 15 minutes and eaten. lazagna, speghetti sauce... lots of things... we are always eating out of the freezer or the crock pot. As for the boys... we do lots of sport. My boys have thos draw string bags.. one in a different color for each activity. Blue is soccer, green is dance, red is swimming, black martial arts (that one is bigger actually). They sit in a bin by the door, everything is kept inside. After the sport, if something needs washed/dried or cleaned that happens then it goes inside -- that day. When we leave the boys are responsble for grabbing their own bag and getting to their activity and back to the bin. It is not my responsiblity. I do check after Bump, but he's pretty good about it now, and will even check his before leaving to make sure he has everythign. Another good thing for time management is to have a schedule. If you know what you are doing you can prepare in advance. Like if you know you have late classes on Wednesday, then you know you need to prepare dinner early in the crock or in the oven on a timer if you want to eat at a reasonable time. Or if you will need to leave earlier than normal on Monday that you need to put something quick to grab for breakfast in the fridge so you can grab and go. As for exercise, join a 24 hour gym or one that has really good hours. Mine is open from 5 am until 11 pm with child care from 6 to 10. It works for me. Find one that works for you. There are lots of them. At the very least, make a list of all the things you have to do tomorrow on a sheet of paper and group the things together that you can do together. For example: pick up groceries for dinner, return redbox movie <-- these can be done at the same place usually... so you don't need to do one at 11 am and one a 4 pm. As you do things cross them off, if you need to add things to the list USE A DIFFERENT COLOR INK. At the end of the day look at all the stuff you accomplished and all the EXTRA stuff you managed to get in too.

Sighs the problem is I'm on a DEADLINE. One that I can't mess with. When I was on the deadline for the Anthology this happened twice and I did finally break down and at lease write the starts of the story down with the outlines for the middles. They don't have names yet really... but I have two that I can write on, if I choose to do so. Now this one is being an annoying little shit. I have two days to finish the edits on this story and then about two weeks to take 12400 words to about 20000 words INCLUDING the edits. I don't have TIME for this. I can see me writing this at 3 am. I can see it happening. I really can.
