Hmmm. Glad I don't live anywhere close to Boston. Jeff is definitely all of the above and it's difficult to defend him but he wasn't the one who killed Simon or Simon and David. He allowed himself to be tricked and therefore failed to protect them but had Simon's father been a relatively 'normal' guy, then we may have been congratulating Jeff for realizing his mistakes and accepting he was wrong. Simon was always on a collision course with his dad and it's difficult to see how it could have ended any different for him. Thanks @empresslovesreading

Haha. Looking at some of the comments, I think it went down okay in the end. Jeff was never going to win any popularity contests and it's been difficult even for me to feel any real sympathy for him. Considering I may have killed off the potential heroes and only gay couple in the story, destroying any chance of a happy-ever-after, then I probably got off quite light. Thanks Carlos.

Thanks, Gary. I'll bear that in mind. Judging from the reaction so far, I may have a line of people hunting me down. You're right this was probably a little below rock bottom but Jeff doesn't do half measures, which is a big part of his problem. Maybe this will be enough for him to give up the booze for good but tragic for poor Simon. As you say dead at sixteen and probably at the hands of his father. Does it get any worse than that? I know it can do, but could I possibly be that cruel? Not, it seems, without the name of a good plastic surgeon and a hideout somewhere in Argentina.

Sorry to ruin your Sunday. Things really did get bad, didn't they? Religious zealots like Darcy are capable of anything. They believe the whole system is corrupt and have little time for man-made laws or authority. They follow their interpretation of the bible and as far as they are concerned, they're doing the Lord's work. This gives them licence to act however they see fit. Thanks @Edward

It's difficult to feel any real sympathy for Jeff although he has shown a willingness to learn and adapt. He wasn't able to do this quick enough to save Simon but under the circumstances it's difficult to see how Simon's fate could have been any different. Darcy would have got to him eventually no matter how well Jeff protected him. We've seen in real life how dangerous and determined people can be when they believe that they are following God's instructions.

Isn't this always the case. It's unfortunate but the actions of one person can affect so many who don't deserve it. In this case, however, Simon was always going to be a victim. This was more to do with his father's religious views than anything else but Jeff didn't help when he had the opportunity. Simon was let down by just about everyone except David who may have paid a hefty price himself for his loyalty. We will discover what happened soon and apportion blame but the only thing that'a certain at the moment is that Simon was undeserving of his fate. Thanks @Ivor Slipper

We don't yet know what has happened to David or if the news was even about David but if he does survive this period of his life then we can assume his relationship with his father will take some time to heal. Maybe, as you point out it never will. Thanks @Israfil

This is fantastic. Like most other sighted people, I suppose, I have never given any thought to things like this. As a passenger, it would be difficult for me to keep my eyes closed for an entire car journey, even if it's just local. I love to see technology like this. It's good to see car manufacturers putting money into projects like this. Thanks JP. -
I often work long hours and in different places so there's a lot of driving involved, which is tiring. I can't usually write anything on days when I work because I'm always exhausted when I get home. For example; this week, I have been working 80 miles from my home so 160 miles driving every day for four days. Now I have three days off to concentrate on my hobby. Working always gets in the way of having fun but it pays the bills.

This is a great topic @droughtquake Heroes comes from all walks of life. Everyone likes to think they would do the right thing and help others if they are ever in a situation like that but no one really knows how they will react. In disasters, there are often incredible acts of bravery from people who you would least expect. These people probably surprised themselves as much as anyone else. 9/11 is good example and we don't even know half of what went on inside those office towers. -
Thanks Tim. He definitely needs to keep Sandra at arms length. He's clearly not ready for a relationship at the moment. She must also be aware of his drink problem. I think that Suzanne did the right thing by moving herself and the two boys out to a safer more stable environment.

Yes the only way is up but it's going to be a long way up and a difficult task for him to get back to the same level. He may have to settle for less than he is prepared to at the present/ We will see. Thanks for your comment @Edward

Thanks, Gary. Darcy is a dangerous character who is used to getting his own way. Jeff will need to have his wits about him if he wants to try to protect Simon. Unfortunately, his other big enemy, the drink has already got the better of him. Losing the kids will affect him and you're right about the heaps of shame. Will he use it to fight back or will it drag him down even further?

If it wasn't for the alcohol addiction, Jeff would be coping quite well with David's news. He's loud and brash but he listens to reason and is not afraid to admit he could be wrong. Darcy has helped Jeff to see things differently but he will prove a difficult enemy and Jeff will need to be better prepared if he wants to protect Simon. Thanks Steve.

He will need some kind of help and he admits to himself that he has a problem. Whether he's ready to seek professional help is another matter. I don't think he's reached the bottom just yet. Thanks @Bft
