Carter reminds me of a bog, they can look so beautiful, carpets of moss or grass, flowers. Just multitude shades of green, but it's meant to to be viewed from a distance because close up you see the imperfections. If you step onto it you can sink into who knows what, quicksand, decayed plants or worse.
I agree with Jon in that all the messages from every might have made Jon think but I don't think anyone would have cemented in Jons mind what he was finally coming to believe. Now whether it was because Pat was there when Jons mother did her usual number on him or whether he was Kents dad I'm not sure. To me I liked to think that yes Jon had a few close friends and yes he had parents, but the parents were so busy trying to outdoor each other in one upmanship of Jons affections that I relegated them to spoiled younger siblings. But Pat and Lydia were Adults they loved their son unconditionally. Pat took the time to come to Jons home and point blank explain why he was their and told Jon to make up his mind. To me I think that was the determining factor Kents dad had accepted that he Jon was what Kent needed.
I loved this story, it was real. My favourite person believe it or not was Jon, I see a lot of Jon in me. I understood how you could overthink yourself out of the best thing in the world because you figure your not good enough for it. But I can also see the stand up guy that is the rock for his sister when she needed him (granted complaining most of the way), the guy that traveled and helped his boyfriend recover from the flu without being asked. Kent was the stronger one in that this basically was all new to him but he was always there to bouy Jon up when needed. These two men were perfect for each other and I really will hate to see them go.
I loved the ending a few simple words but the look and the feelings behind them filled the room, you couldn't have asked for a better ending.
