  1. I read a theory a while back that stated that the way the temperatures are rising and the ice is melting will actually have the effect of bringing on another ice age in the northern hemisphere, because the ice that melts in the arctic will follow the currents down, mix in with the Gulf current that keeps the climate temperate in Northern Europe, cooling it down and causing the climate to get much, much colder. It was said that this would take a couple of hundred years. I have no source for this, it's all from memory, but it's an interesting thought.
  2. I very rarely set out to watch a sad film... I will set out to watch a good film, so someone might recommend a movie to me and tell me it's a great movie, and I'll watch it and it'll turn out it was really sad and that's fine. My favourite sad movie is probably Lars Von Trier's Dancer in the Dark. Really great film. I've watched it twice. I will probably watch it again some time, but I can't rewatch films like that to often. Usually, it's not the plot of a movie that makes me cry, though. A really sad, heavy, tragic movie leaves me feeling a little hollow and tired and exhausted, which can all be good feelings... But it's great dramatic performances that make me cry, and they can come in anything. I cried twice during The Hobbit, I cried during Star Trek Into Darkness, I cried during Iron Man III, I have cried many times during Glee when someone performs a song particularly well (Darren Criss's acoustic version of Teenage Dream last autumn had me crying like a baby), I cry lots every time I see the last episode of series 2 of Sherlock, not because of the plot but because of Martin Freeman's amazing acting. So yeah, to me it's not the plot of the film that determines whether I cry or not, it's the emotional realism of the actor's performance, and it can be a really sad scene or a hopeful scene or the scene where everything turns out okay in spite of the tragedy preceding it, but it's always determined by the acting, not the story.
  3. Hey, DariusvB! Awesome to have you here! We need more Europeans.
  4. Slightly off topic, but with regards to gay superhero comics, you should check out Alex Woolfson's work, if you haven't already.
  5. Link, plz?? I seriously LOVED Metanoia! And I have The God Eaters. I had one of my local bookshops order it for me when it was new, which means I must have been, what... eighteen, maybe?
  6. My meatballs contain onion, beets, capers, cream and salt and pepper, usually. But I also make mediterranean type ones with garlic, thyme or oregano, salt, pepper, feta cheese and olives.
  7. This chapter felt so... real. This whole story is so honest and raw, but this chapter illustrated it so perfectly, a fractal of the story as a whole. Loved it!
  8. What a moving story! Wow, that really explains how close those three are, doesn't it... That tattoo sounds really cool, too. Issac feels like such a complete and well-rounded character to me, you can tell that he has a past and that he's had some serious development, even before you know the extent of his backstory. I love that. I have a real feeling that Issac's experiences and his completeness as a person are going to be a big help for Bay to sort his own shit out.
  9. *whimper* I know I wouldn't be able to say no to that... Damn, Bay, who knew you could be so... commanding? *fans self* Excellent chapter, truly! Love how these boys just click together, they have such a wonderful dynamic. I just adore them! <3
  10. Aww, poor Bay! I mean, yay blow jobs, but still...
  11. I do all the cooking because I'm very domineering in the kitchen and whenever Magpie tries to cook, I sit on the sidelines like a backseat-driver going, 'Wouldn't it be better to do it this way?'
  12. One of the last proper pubs where you can actually hear what people are saying in my town is closing in September, because they're turning the building they're in into all fancy restaurants.
  13. It's late and I've had a lot if wine, so allow me to just say, Awwwww!!! to this chapter! Love Issac, love Bay, love it all!
  14. Or to mountain ranges. We'll live in the Rockies, Andes, Alps, Himalayas, etc. Countries such as Nepal and Tibet will be pretty decently off.
  15. This human loves it.
  16. Yay! Happy birthday!
  17. The Commonwealth has officially gone metric, you know. Spent a lovely evening with two of my best friends tonight. We had grilled scallops with a sauce made of sesame seed oil, soy, roasted garlic and ginger for a starter. Main course was pork medallions with creamy ginger infused mash and another soy-based sauce with fresh ginger (can you tell Edd loves ginger?), plus salad made from red peppers and baby leaf spinach. Dessert was carrot cupcakes with butter frosting. We drank a bottle of Maqués de Cáceres Reserva 2008 with dinner, and a Contessa Matilde Lambrusco di Sorbara with dessert, followed by first flush darjeeling. I am so full right now!
  18. I'd seen Freeman in a few things before (Hitchhiker's Guide, Love Actually, both fantastic parts), but I had no idea who Benedict Cumberbatch was when a friend of mine gave me the first series of Sherlock on dvd for my birthday a couple of years ago. Needless to say, I am completely obsessed with him as well.

    Borderline

It was never enough. Remus dropped the cigarette to the pavement. Another failed attempt at satisfaction… It had been a year now. A year of living like a slob in a filthy bed-sit in the East End with the London fog pressing up against his window at night. A year of nightmares and self-hatred and anger. A year of locking himself in an old bomb shelter every full moon, hoping that no hapless Muggle would manage to find his way down there. It had been a year since Lily, James and Peter had died an
  20. Since losing all his closest friends, Remus has nothing left to live for. Indulging in booze and casual sex, he tries desperately to find something that will make him feel, but in the end there's only one thing that can. Inspired by a song by Tool.
  21. Oh, God, I am so jealous! I want to see him in real life too!!! I'll bet he was grateful that not too many people recognised him, though. I'm just going to assume you've seen Sherlock? A friend of mine's down your way working for Weta, actually. He was head shader on Iron Man III and did the feathers on the eagles in The Hobbit.
  22. Awww!! Loved this. Seriously loved it! Aww, Issac is so awesome, and Bay is adorable, and that food sounded amazing! I love lamb with a passion. Favourite kind of meat aside from maybe duck. Your descriptions were subtle yet vivid, I could really see Issac working in his kitchen. Only thing I thought about was that peeling a beetroot by hand should make your fingers red, shouldn't it? Excellent work, truly!
  23. Well, you're still part of the commonwealth, that helps. Martin Freeman is a god, pure and simple. I would do dirty things to him, given half a chance.
  24. Aww, that sucks. But at least things have improved there, and other kids won't have to go through what you did. That's a good thing, right?
