  1. I'm more likely to give money to homeless people in winter than in summer. And if they have a pet and it looks like they treat it right, I guess that might make me more inclined to help them. Sadly, I often see homeless people with big dogs who are obviously being mistreated. They get the dog because they want a big, scary animal to scare off potential threats, but they don't know how to take care of the animal. A friend of mine once called animal protection services because they witnessed a homeless person kicking their dog. Trigger warning: drugs
  2. I was home alone and had to make dinner for just myself the other day and didn't feel like shopping, so I raided cupboards and freezer and fridge and ended up making the following: Salmon kebab 1. Take one salmon fillet (like, the kind that's one portion), fry it in a pan on high heat, crushing it into smaller bits as it cooks, so it ends up a little crispy. If it's not marinated or something (mine was with garlic and herbs), add your favourite spices. 2. Take one pitta bread, and heat it in the toaster or oven. Ae handy (I had grated carrot, sweetcorn and cucumber) and grated cheese in a bowl. Add some lemon juice and mayo and stir it all together. 4. Shove it all inside the pitta bread, and enjoy. Alternately, if you have some kind of flat bread or tortillas you can do it like a shawarma roll or a burrito or something. Took me all of fifteen minutes to make.
  3. I spent part of last night basically spoiling A Song of Ice and Fire for a friend of mine. She'd given up on watching Game of Thrones and asked me to feed her spoilers in the hopes that it would get her motivated to keep watching. At he end of our conversation she decided that she probably would. It was an odd conversation.
  4. I would never, ever read the last chapter first. That would spoil everything for me. I have occasionally spoiled TV-shows for myself by looking stuff up on Wikipedia or IMDB before finishing a season and inadvertently coming across spoilers, or by reading fan fiction of a work before I've finished watching/reading it.
  5. I dunno... I think it's too much like the original. When you make a cover of something, I feel like you owe it to yourself and the original creator to do something more with it. Something the original artist would not have thought to do themselves. I think my favourite cover version of this particular song (to my own great surprise because this isn't my genre at all) is probably Dolly Parton's. Another example of an interesting cover, here's A Perfect Circle's version of Imagine.

  7. Those numbers aren't even counting the cost that goes into research, development and marketing of the thing... These being things that Apple does spend an awful lot of dosh on.

    Chapter 11

I really like this peek into Dan's family and his old life as Tse-Ho. His cousin seems nice. Family pressures can be overwhelming sometimes. I think Dan handled this situation with his aunt nicely.
  9. Mr. B. The Gentleman Rhymer––Just Like a Chap
  10. I can vouch for this. I ran Windows on my old MacPro, for gaming. Ran smooth as silk, I never had a single issue with it. There is now, you just have to set it in system preferences. With a trackpad, you can ctrl+click or, again depending on your sys prefs, click with two fingers.
  11. Okay, need to take a few deep breaths now... God, your descriptions! I could feel Bay's blind panic as Zupan came at him in my shoulders and my head and my whole body. I wanted to stand up out of my seat and run away, just like him. Jesus, how the hell do you do that? How do you make everything so urgent and immediate and earnest and just... close? Fantastic work, as ever.
  12. Oh, right! YouTube is all blocked in China, isn't it? The latest one I posted was Start Wearing Purple by Gogol Bordello.
  13. Pretty much just as this whole issue came to my attention, I discovered a BBC miniseries from 2008 called The Last Enemy, which is about just this. A society where the security and intelligence system has become so big that they have a central database through which they can monitor individuals and predict everything from how people's lives are likely to play out to what adverts they're likely to respond to, and where this database is being used by government and private corporations alike. It's really very interesting, near future dystopia type of thing, I highly recommend it.
  14. You get what you pay for, I think. I have never had the sort of problems with Apple computers as I have with other PCs. And as a musician I have a lot of use for the programmes you can get for Mac. To me, that's worth paying a little extra for.
  15. Wow. That was heavy. Very, very heavy read. Jeez, Bay, you poor sod... That's all I've got, actually. Think I need to process this a bit. So, you know, thanks for the feels.
  16. ...I have a MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air and an iPod Classic, and I would definitely say I'm an apple fan, so I think we have slightly different definitions there....
  17. I'm not entirely certain I believe this picture...
  18. I basically keep the tab open in my browser and check in when I have a minute. Which is quite often at the moment as I'm currently unemployed.
  19. Happy birthday!
  20. Actually, if I have a guilty pleasure, it's probably slash fanfiction... I mean, I don't feel very guilty about it, but... Favourite pairings include Snape/Lupin (Harry Potter), Stiles/Isaac (Teen Wolf), Sherlock/John (BBC's Sherlock), Guy of Gisborne/Will Scarlett, Guy of Gisborne/Allan-a-Dale and Guy of Gisborne/Robin Hood (BBC's Robin Hood), Merlin/Gwaine and Merlin/Arthur (Merlin), Dean/Castiel (Supernatural), Bond/Q (Skyfall) and I could go on for a really long time, but I'm sure you get the gist of it... I will read fanfic of these pairings at length, the pornier the better (though I want there to be plot too).
  21. Real, genuine tears in my eyes right now. That was so painful! God, Bay, you fucking idiot! I really hope he'll be able to make it up to Issac somehow, when he's sorted his shit out, and that Issac can find it in his heart to forgive him and maybe even help him. Poor boys!
  22. So, anyone else hear about the new MacPro yet? This thing is pure pornography. I need this machine!
  23. Nice to see Bay develop a bit of humility. Issac handled that nicely. Well done to him! I was worried there would be more drama... Aww, and the 'I love you'! Very sweet.
  24. I want to, but I can't really afford it right now... Might do it anyway, though.
