[dkstories] Dreams of a Father
TheDaniel replied to Ratatosk's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
I'm not sure about Frederick being a lost cause. But it's definitely sad that he shows no empathy for his cousin. About the changes in the POV. I have no problem with the different viewpoints. Yet... . How to tell a story, if there are (many) parallel happenings, must be a common problem. At the moment I agree with Dan's choice of a common timeline with different POVs, when something important happens. As a somewhat negative example I can name Peter F. Hamilton's Night's Dawn Trilogy. The story has many, many different storylines, all developing simultaneously. He choose to revolve each chapter solely around one main character. Changing the POV only form chapter to chapter. The problem is there are so many storylines, that there are often many chapters between two with the same POV, where one storyline is continued. I sometimes had problems remembering what happened last, where the story was left oft. Also it was annoying when one chapter was really thrilling, the chapter ended with a cliffhangar and there where a lots of (not so interesting) chapters, until the strand was continued. With the thought that Dan has put into the problem I'm quite hopeful, that he choose the right solution for this wonderful story. BTW: Where's the next chapter? -

Tease! I surely don't qualify as an editor but sometimes one gets jealous... Ok, knowing the unedited stories of some German authors, I know that solely spell checking can be quite stressing, so disregard that. It's only the addiction. -

Surprises indeed. :-) Great chapter, but only more questions, no answers. Daniel -

Um... my pleasure? I simply felt, that the BB didn't get the attention it deserved, through being rarely mentioned/linked. Daniel PS: The last installments of Savage Moon were great. I'm curious what happens if Wesley meets someone out of his "old" life, or even someone of his family. But I guess that's ways down the road, if it even happens.

Good chapter. But it didn't happen much action-wise. Thanks for the installment, Dan. -

That's something that I didn't even consider. The crew, or most of it, not knowing of the AI. Might be possible and interesting. -

Great chapter. I'm also not quite sure what the church's intentions are for Paul. If the change in Paul's situation actually comes from the church's leadership and not another person or faction within. At the moment we only know, that the prophet supposedly had a vision and granted Paul the right to have a soul. Having the effect that he's not entirely an outcast, comes out of hiding and gets some social contacts. As mentioned before this could be a scheme to inculcate Paul with the beliefs and values of the kingdom, converting him to one of them. But form the glimpses of Paul's persona I don't think that he's so easy to influence. Another possibility is that Bishop Florelli actually work's against the current leadership, in an long-term project. It's a classic theme, that you'll use teacher and tutors in key positions to subvert the powers that be through the brightest of it's youth and/or successors of important positions. In an oppressive environment it's often enough to give such youths a facility, where their spirits can reign somewhat free, to win them for you. There's only the question where exactly Paul fits into that idea. Off to another topic. In a former thread I asked if it's possible to hide the capabilities of Henry (the AI on Garret's ship). In the net to last chapter I got the impression that they were able to fool the earthers, that the AI is somewhat basic, only capable of on doing what it has been told in detail. With the foreign crew on board the situation is likely, that at some point Henry will show his true power, acting against the crew to follow Garrets agenda. I guess he should be able to act on himself for quite a while until he could be incapacitated through sabotaging the ships systems. I think most vulnerable should be the drones and bots used for maintenance. I guess there's no fight drone or internal defensive systems, as in CPL's falcon banner. Doesn't exactly fit into Dreams. As always I'm anxious for the next installment. Daniel -
[Topher_Lydon] TBOJ - Get it now, read it now!

I read the first 3 books of the saga and have been quite impressed. I'm a sucker for scify after all. ;-) Only now I'm aware, that "Balance Of Judgment" has been published. Will get it in a few. Very first impression after reading the title (again) was "Isn't that the name of a battleship in the scify series "Andromeda"? (sometimes better known as "Hercules in space" ) Coincidence? When I think about it there are quite a few parallels between Andromeda's universe and and that of the Falcon Banner... Anyways, thanks for this book. Maybe I'll comment when I read through. Regards, Daniel -
Hehe. Thanks, but I'm quite capable to google for blood + bank + comicality. If it's the intention to keep the blood bank hidden, my apologies. I wasn't aware of that. But then I'm curious, why so?
-
Heya! I know Comicalitie's stories for years and are a pretty big fan. Maybe I should finally take the time to write a mail of appreciation. But my post here has another reason. Today the "GFD Blood Bank" came back into my focus, because of an email from it's mailinglist. Most should know the Blood Bank, it's a fan-project, promoted by Comsie himself, where everyone who's ambitious enough can try to publish fan fictions that play in the GFD-universe. Personally I think it's a good project. The problem is that I tend to forget about it, cause it isn't mentioned anywhere. Maybe I'm plain dumb, but I even can't find one link to it. Not here at GA's main site, not in the Shack Out Back, not even in the mails that come from the Blood Banks own mailinglist! Especially newbies should have a really hard time finding it. I have to google it, to get it's address! As I said, maybe I'm to dumb to find it referenced anywhere, but if I have somewhat of a point, who can install links to it at strategic points? It's a pity if the Blood Bank doesn't get the attention it deserves, because it's rarely mentioned. So long, Daniel

Thanks for this chapter. Good as always, wanting more as always. One thing I'm thinking about, is if Zacharias won't get suspicious of Henry, Atreides's AI? Sure, there needs to be an AI to handle the ships highly autonomous systems, but can it really be concealed just how sophisticated Henry is? If I remember correctly even most military ships don't have an AI, less such a powerful one. Should be really strange for a small "spacer" craft. Daniel -

I had breaded pork cutlets with creamed spinach and potatoes. Some cutlets scalloped with ham, Sauce Hollondaise, asparagus tops and cheese (Gouda), of course. A German speciality, made by myself? Great chapter, Dan. The story get's moving. I'm really on the edge of my seat here, wanting to know what happens next. Regards, Daniel -

Drat! I haven't written anything in theses forums in such a long time, that I couldn't remember which email-address I used to register and had trouble loging in. Thanks for continuing these great story, Dan. I'm a sucker for scify with these story one of my favorites, in gay fiction. Yes, someone actually read it, as all chapters of "Rich Boy". I'm always a bit at loss for word's, but just wanted to give a thumbs up. Great story, regards, Daniel -
Same for me. If you look on his site, there's no chapter 14. I guess somebody announced it, before it was really uploaded/published. *shrugs* So I'm still impatiently waiting. Regards, Daniel

[dkstories] Let's do it Chapter 1
TheDaniel replied to leledoct's topic in Promoted Author Discussion Forum
Wow, just wow! I thought, that I had enough of DO, but this beginning of a new sequel made me change my mind. Definitely. I'd relatively soon figured out, that it isn't told from Davey's perspective, because Dan avoided naming the actor. I don't have much more to say right now, but thanks Dan, for this reading pleasure. Daniel -
BTW: Where's our chronic lurker C_James? A new chapter post without a reply within a day? He seems to be slacking...
-
Hehe. With hindsight that's an important part of chapter 28, that and the talk with his mother being a turning point in Garret's behavior. But I have to say, I wasn't that surprised. Somehow I suspected something like that, after the first few paragraphs. What puzzled me more is that Imaline allowes it, under the mentioned circumstances. Regards, Daniel

Well... First thanks again for the double post. It's been a bit quite the last two weeks. In the forums, as story-wise. Guess it has to do with Christmas coming. Anyway, 2 chapters were a nice little surprise. I liked both chapters, each in it's own way. 29 was a tad better, in my opinion. While DK is really god at writing all these social drama and political intigues. I'm quite happy, there's again some time in space. Gives some of these "space opera" feeling, that I'm into. On the other hand I'm happy that the problems with Aaron seem solved, for the time being. Maybe he's really just a big kid, without a hidden agenda. But as always it's about the right mix. After all these chapters with the problems of Carlos's society, it was time for some space-action, I guess. It'd be also boring if there was one space-fight, after the other. Then the, always too soon, ending. I demand more! NOW! There were worse cliffhangars, but my curiosity is peaked what's to happen on Garret's "very own planet". Regards, Daniel

Just came in and hit refresh on the chapter list of DOH. Seems that chapters 28 _and_ 29 are out. Thanks DK an Emoe.

Damn! And I thought I were first to discover the new chapter, respectively starting a topic about it. I agree, good chapter. I specially liked the idea oft the "city of twilight". Regards, Daniel -
Ah, a poll! Polls are fun. I guess, that none of the mentioned characters are a mole. With Trebs and Emoe I'm not so sure, so I ticked both. About the caves I suspect that they'll reappear, but won't play a major role. Last, but not least, Aaron. I'm really not sure. I like him in a warped kind. But I'm pretty sure, that there's something more to him, than what's apparent until now. So I'm with "He's unknowingly working for the traitors". Regards, Daniel

Double standards on Sex in Video Games... and Boy on Boy in Bully
TheDaniel replied to Myr's topic in The Lounge
Just my thoughts. The few days I played "Sims 2", I had two boys making out. Don't know, if it's european thinking, but I sometimes don't quite get it. Example GTA Vice City: Bar from it being a video game, for fun, not the real world, it's quite ok if you kill people en masse, but if there
