Thanks for asking this question. I was wondering about that also. As to the observation, I think that there are many reasons for this. One is that some books have a very rough start that is difficult for readers to go through. As an example, a book that starts with a traumatic event like abuse. Another reason is that some books are not on a subject of interest to the reader, but got high reviews. They start the book, but don't become invested in the plot or characters and go on to another book. There are several stories, however, where views build as the story is told. A lot of these books that have been finished for a few years continue to be found on the weekly Gay Authors' Genre News. Hope this helps some.

I had to laugh at this Carlos. My first was a 1957 Chevy followed by a Bug. When I finally got my first automatic I was always trying to use the clutch which meant sometimes hitting the brake instead. There were some very rocky rides for the first few months until I moved my left foot way out of the way.

Hi @Dan South This is a brilliant story and you will love it by the end. The beginning was difficult for me, but it only made the ending that much more wonderful. Stick with it!

Despite the great sacrifices of his family, Milan is incurably sick. In hope to find a cure, his father relocates the family to Portento a sanctuary for those in need. They're outsiders in a town enveloped in mystery, magic and evil. There Milan finds he's not the only one facing a bleak future. Thus, begins a wonderful story of hope, family and romance. @lilansui is an accomplished author and her stories are truly impressive in scope and style. This is a story you will want to read more than once.

A beautiful story, a beautiful ending. I haven't checked, but hope there is a sequel.

Well done @lilansui! I feel the way you have wrapped up all is very satisfying. I would also like it very much if the story continues to chronicle how Rory, Milan and the pack face a new future.

A very romantic date with both young men ending up in their own personal heaven. Ilaria was wrong. Milan doesn't want to get out and travel the world, at least alone. What he wants is something he has been denied, an anchor. He needs a place where he belongs and feels like a part of, not an outsider. I do love sweet and warm chapters like this.

Milan is good at getting to know people. He won't feel an outsider for long. Maryanne is going to be a best buddy. I liked the way she supported him with Annie. I also like the way Milan stood up for himself against Annie. I had to laugh at Milan's insistence on a formal proposal and wedding. Looking forward to the town meeting.

It was good news that Ilaria had changed her mind and is leaving Milan and Ayu with the pack. I think it will help both Kiyo and herself reestablish the bond and love for each other they had sacrificed for Milan. I hope they return soon. I am also curious about Ayu's love interest. It would be nice to get an update on Nisin and Jack, Nisin's father Cade, Lechter and his wife as well as what's happening at the swamp. Finally, Milan gets to see his new home. It may be deep in the forest, but still very impressive.

Although Milan's change came from the stress placed on him by his mom, it was beautifully described and wonderful to read. It is clear from Rory's conversations that he is going to face many challenges as the new Alpha. However, to make the changes and unite the community he has the power and advice of the town. Interesting things lie ahead for him, Milan, Topher and Matt.

Llaria was like a Tasmanian Devil going after Connor. I am glad Milan got her to calm down before she got started on Rory. Kiyo is in grave danger after protecting Nisan from Rick. I honestly hope he will get well. His only sin was to be so focused on saving Milan he fell into a bad situation. It seems so unfair that he should suffer after all he has sacrificed. I also wonder how long it will take for Nisin and his mate to do what Rory and Milan have done.

Great chapter! I can't wait to see Milan up and well. I wonder what color his wolf will be. I bet his mom is going to be very surprised. I am worried that Kiyo is not coming. He needs to understand what is happening. I bet Lechter will not be as obstinate as in the past after learning that Rick was responsible for the death of Lechter's wife and Matt's mom.

A very exciting chapter. Rory is now the Alpha and has his Moon. I hope they can quickly change Milan so he can get well.

Very exciting chapter! I wonder who has died from the pack? The Morgan has been challenged doesn't sound good.

Another well timed cliffhanger. So now we know who the villain is. My question is how he got the money to fund Biosense. Dolon has also been infected by Lloyd's poisonous blood. Milan is bleeding, but hopefully not a lot. Llaria and Kiyo are both doctors, so Milan can get help quickly. Hopefully Connor, Rory and a security team or Rory's guys will arrive in time.

Dr. Takeda is about to get an earful. I hope he understands what he has done has put his family in great danger. Dang, I was expecting a leaf to drop. May be it will happen when Milan regains consciousness.

Wow! I expect the bracelet will lose another leaf in the next chapter. Milan was in fear for his life, but as much as he feared the black wolf he also recognized the white wolf saved him. He will immediately recognize that Rory saved his life. I think the black wolf is the one Chris and Rory chased. Rory must have caught the sickly scent and found where the black wolf was hiding in the school. I don't, however, think that that wolf is Dolon.

A major element has been introduced, the McReives, and they are on Rory's side. I look forward to learning more about the Morgan Lore, and seeing how they change what's happening. I am a bit curious about the human scent. Considering the conversations between Milan, Rory and Llaria, I think Rory is going to tell his secret soon to at least Milan.

Rory and Milan are in a difficult situation with Kiyo, and it's hard to see how they can get him to accept their relationship. I can understand Kiyo, but I don't like what he is unknowingly doing to them especially his son. The conversation between Cade and the traitor was filled with delicious clues. Cade doesn't seem like a bad guy. He too is fighting for the life of his son Nisin. The traitor to the pack is responsible for one other victim, Dolon. He is also responsible for the death of Lechter's wife and Matt's mother. Things we know about the traitor is that he is a member of the pack and male. He provides funds for Biosense and controls stock in the company. He is a leader on the Council. This I know because he references what he is up against in the Council trying to drive Lechter insane to implode the Council. He is the one who kidnapped Dolon and is keeping Dolon hidden. Finally, he wants to use the serum developed by Tiyo to upgrade his blood. Of course, it probably means that he is also a wolf, but could be a human. That leaves me with three suspects, Principal Rick, Hunter and Kutler. I would hate it if the traitor is Topher's dad. Hunter has been a background character so far. Principal Rick is suspect because of the sick wolf's disappearance at the high school. Love this chapter, @lilansui!

Follow the doctor's orders. I had a similar problem and ended up in the hospital for three days.

Rory got through the Council meeting OK. Lechter was a first class pain. Iris was interesting and I like her style. I wonder what she might know about the amulet that Rory gave to Milan. The conversation between Milan and Rory was a nice way to learn about each boy as they learned about each other. Very well written. I enjoyed the trip to Steel Farm and the developing friendship of Jet and Milan. Grandma Asta's revelation of poisoned wolf blood in Milan was not too shocking, but did make for a dramatic cliffhanger. To me Kiyo's treatment using an unknown blood donor is the likely suspect. Even if Kiyo has no idea of the source, we know it is from Biosense. Also, we know the sick black wolf was rescued in the chase to the school by an unknown helper who was a trained sniper. The warning shot was just too well placed to be anyone with a gun.
