  1. Now back in the bar, the hot tingle of Ryan's kiss lingers on my lips. Surprisingly, my place at the bar is still open, even though my drink has disappeared. Oh well. Barry comes up, my drink in hand, heavily frosted. “Saved your drink in the cooler, and don't think it's watered down too badly—or would you prefer a fresh one, Clayton? After all, you were outside for a little while … ” His twinkling eyes and impish smile let me know he's gently kidding me about the drink—and about my outdoo

    Late August

I've been away, and am just now discovering this story--and I'm glad I found it! Loving your efficient descriptions of Euphoria and the privilege that lives there; also loving the complex portrait you've painted of Toph. (And having him refer to himself in third person is genius--it really shows how emotionally detached/isolated he's made himself.) I'm really looking forward to the rest of this story!

    Chapter 1

Enjoying the characters you're building here. Jackson DOES come off as a bit of a jerk--but as Grame points out, we've only gotten a partial picture of him so far, and I'm certain there are some surprises ahead for him. Looking forward to the next chapter!
  4. Glad you found the story--know you've got lots on your plate! You'd mentioned a change in style; I had an editor once tell me that it's important that each character have his own voice, and I took that to heart with this story--I'm hoping you'll find the style changes based on the story's perspective. Ryan's style is going to be substantively different from Clayton's here. And, I'm going for more subtlety ("read between the lines") for each character's personality--less of the "spell it all out" I've used before. Even with Barry/Bubba/Rex/Joe--there's more subtle detailing here...I hope! Thanks for the nice comments/encouragement--I look forward to your reviews!
  5. Me? A tease? Now, would I do that? And I must admit, Bulldog and Bubba have become solid characters, quite likeable--and I'm enjoying their presence in the story; I'm glad you are too! I appreciate your reading/following the story!
  6. Thanks for the kind words, RJ! Trust me, missed being here! Glad you've enjoyed the story so far; there are plenty of twists and turns ahead, with (I hope) interesting, complex characters. Thanks for reading!
  7. Liking your style here... And appreciate your openness to "tell the tale"! Good job!

    Chapter 1

Great start to what feels like a romantic, fun story! Looking forward to more!

    Chapter 10

I e been away, and am playing catch-up on my reading--and discovered this fun story. You've done a good job of building believable characters with realistic dialogue; I'm intrigued to see how our hero both develops his love life, and avoids circumstantial murder charges. Good job here...more, more!
  10. Great chapter, and Indie's save is a stroke of genius! Good job!
  11. Glad you enjoyed the story! Joe and Rex are like lots of other guys you know--sometimes rowdy behaviors, but at heart good guys, and certainly interesting. And the devotion they end up developing for each other and those around them is nothing less than heroic, just like what we see in a lot of friends' lives daily. Thanks for reading!
  12. Back again, and caught up...and it's been a worthwhile effort! Really enjoying the way you've handled Brodie and Nate's budding relationship. And the holiday scenes and (almost done) move to the new house are both touching and satisfying. But I also expect there's gonna be a flurry of activities quickly--the move, move-in, renovations, parents move, and, oh yeah, a baby--well you've comma be covering a lot of stuff! But we'll be following along--appreciating the good job you do! Bring it all on!
  13. I've been away, and just now discovered this great story. (Yeah, read all the chapters in one-sitting.) Enjoying your direct writing style, and its energy; really enjoying the characters you've developed--real, fun, with snappy dialogue. More, more!
  14. Great to be back--and thanks for the welcome! Hope you continue to enjoy the story!

    Lion's Lair

Glad you're enjoying the story so far--and let me know what you think about the other pieces if you get to read 'em! Thanks for following the story!
  16. Another fun start to what will be a solid story, told in your relaxed, fun style with an emphasis on characters and dialogue to make the story real. Looking forward to more!
  17. Dathi, it's good being back here--I've missed it, and although there are still some pesky health issues, I'm here for the long haul. THANK YOU for the kind words and following the story--it's a different story, a different romance; one I hope you'll enjoy!
  18. Thanks for the welcome back, Gee! I'm hoping you'll enjoy this tale; as you mention, it's different from a lot of other plots/characters here. And having a good ole boy Marine around is just icing on the cake! Thanks for the kind words--and get ready for a rowdy ride that you may not be expecting!
  19. Onim, it's good to be back! (I've had some pesky health issues--not fun!) And definitely glad you're getting into the story; it's not a "standard" romance by any means. Also glad to see you welcome Barry back. It's remarkable what a loveable/likeable character he's become and, I must admit, he's like an old friend. New chapter out next Thursday--and I hope you enjoy it, too. THANK YOU for the kind words!
  20. LOL! My screw up on the publishing date of that chapter means YOU got to jump ahead in the story! Just keep reading the chapters...you'll see chapter 6 in mid-February!
  21. Glad ya like, Daddy! Just be prepared for the unexpected--it isn't the typical romance story! Thanks for following along!
  22. Clayton and I have now been dating a little over three weeks. And gotta admit, it's surprised the shit out of me how remarkable the dating experience has been. Yeah, it's been that good. It's certainly caught me off guard how much Clayton occupies my thoughts. Of course we now talk daily, and in the last three weeks we've been out on probably six, seven, maybe eight dates – – hell, I don't remember how many even though they've all been fun. And fun isn't exactly the term – – maybe… satisfyi
  23. Thanks for the comments, Terry! Yes, Ryan doesn't seem to deal with the self-doubt/lack of confidence issues many would have--at least not publicly. Private times are, I'm sure, something different. (Hell, we ALL have self-doubts at times, even with legs!) I hope you'll see the true depth of his character in the story chapters ahead; he's an interesting guy. THANK YOU for the kind words, and for following the story!
  24. Thanks, Mike! Glad to see you found the new story--and hope you'll enjoy the dynamics between Ryan and Clayton. And, you'll see plenty of Bubba and Bulldog, Joe and Rex, and the other characters/locations I've written about before. (Yeah, you'll see more of the fun side of Barry here ... he's developed into a far more outgoing guy than what you originally saw in "Landfall". Thanks for the kind words and following the story!

    Lion's Lair

There are lots of differences between Ryan, the Nebraska Marine, and Clayton, the buttoned-down engineer ... but perhaps more in common than either man suspects. Ryan's rebuilding his life after a tour of duty created major changes, while Clayton, at loose ends after the death of his lover, still has secrets that shape his life. Can they build their strength--and find common ground--within the lion's lair?
