  1. I was browsing the housemates profiles, and this made me smile, or smirk, whichever http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/bigbrother/dis...ontestant_id=69
  2. has it? I was wondering. I only heard a few days ago that it was on this year - I'd completely forgotten about it. I wasn't intending to watch this year either - but I got curious earlier, annoying my housemates no end, and who just spent the time they were hovering shouting remarks at the TV . so I think I'm going to watch a few over the next few days and then if they get my interest, maybe just maybe watch a little, otherwise yeah I've got better things to do . but I'm a sucker so far.
  3. I'm not even going to pretend that I am not going to watch it. I'm not having to be a slave to it either, I Need a summer, but maybe once a week .... A decade we've had it in our lives, that's ridiculous. But yeah, its started again, will anyone else be watching, or does big brother make you want to throw things at the TV? I swing, last year I didn't even watch one episode, while others I went through a fad for a few weeks then I forgot about it or simply got frustrated with the housemates. This year the people don't seem Too bad. some that made me cringe - that girl shrieking all the way along the carpet. and so far, as expected, a high LGBT turnout. its also got a lot of nationalities this year. Brazilian, Russian, Pakistani, Indian, English, American (I think), Iranian and I've forgotten if there is any more. so bets on who is going to get it on? or fall out? or be voted out first, or not even become a house-mate in the first place? seems BB is going for the cruel theme again this year. The housemates all need to pass tasks to become housemates and be allowed their stuff or into the bedroom. this could stretch 3 days. Rodrigo, the Brazilian, and some girl have made it in so far. the girl agreed to have her eyebrows shaved off and glasses and a moustache drawn on to qualify. I thought it was going to definitely be one of the boys that volunteered, but she surprised me and offered really quickly. either she doesn't mind too much about 'beauty' or at least is confident with herself and that she can fix it, or she really desperately wants the show, which I suppose since she is there, why not. But I wouldn't like it, but then I would never ever entertain the idea of going on the show either. so, to hopefully not wasting too much of my summer getting sucked in. Celia
  4. in the comment section of that article they are still discussing whether it was really staged or not .... so make your own conclusion
  5. here you go, it was staged: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/pda/2009/j...talvideo-eminem
  6. I am certainly not a lit expert, but to me the above does rhyme a little. look at it more carefully. he does rhyme more than that though, this is from his song Just lose it poking fun at Michael Jackson:
  7. no there is good rapping and bad rapping. at least I think so. its not my favourite music style, but there a few artists that I really like. my favourite is one you will never have heard of, they are unsigned. and even though i don't like some of the content of eminem's stuff I think he is clever with the way he puts it all together - including his video's.
  8. he's a dickhead, but I do think he is talented. just his opinions and his actions aren't the best.
  9. An MTV awards apparently happened yesterday. Sasha Baron Cohen dressed as Bruno, his latest character who is gay, arrived to give an award dressed as an angel and flying, only to then fall on Eminem with pretty much his exposed ass/crotch in his face. Eminem then left the building. was or wasn't eminem in on the act ... ?? http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/...01/eminem-bruno
  10. it was underlying in your statements about her coming down to earth with a crash and could be read into the statement about her believing what was said about her, or at least that was the sense that I derived from what you said, one of derision. even IF people go on that show to be famous, that does not give you or anyone else the unreserved right to act how you like or say whatever. the business of show-business does not have to be the way that it is, but supporting it in that way helps make it so and feeds it. you also don't know the reasons that she went on that show, you know only a snippet. this was not x-factor. it could be that she needed a break from her life, a chance to shine, or even just a chance to sing on a stage once, to feel good? who knows, but it does not mean they want all the bad stuff, or even the money or fame, or that it has to be that way. as has been said, she certainly didn't expect it so fast or so big, adjusting for anyone would be difficult. whether she did or she didn't flip afterwards, you don't know the circumstances or what her attitude was targeted at - it may well have not been about not winning. either way it is likely linked to the reason she is in the priory and that needs to be treated with respect and not trivialised.
  11. i feel like that almost all the time at the moment. it is a weird sensation. goodluck with sorting it all out. I'm hoping at least that the experience does benefit us in the long run
  12. I really don't think that is fair. I have heard the same things as you did about her behind stage, however I also read the interview with diversity the next day where they said she was still gracious. In terms of the result, the polls don't matter, she actually got about 20% of the vote while diversity got about 24%, so really not that far apart. in terms of numbers about 19million watched while only 4 million voted. whether she believed everything that was being written about her, I think you are being cruel. I didn't really watch the show, or follow her story much, but she is a person who is talented whether or not she is a mega talented star. I think the pressure of the show, the press and people being negative like this about her have not helped one little bit. she also has a learning disability and amid absolute hell this week (piers said she hand't been sleeping or eating properly), I think people need to lay off her. if you do watch the shows people need to be treated with more respect and not as if they are just there for your entertainment to be poked at and watch as she falls. I have sympathy for her while she is in the priory. I know people who have gone to such places for the same things as her, exhaustion and breakdowns, if that is what this is. they do make people act strangely and for the people around them it can be very stressful as well. if she did start to believe stuff about herself, then way go her, she needs good things in her life and to believe that she is special, because she and everybody is. everybody's lives need elevating not bringing down. just be glad diversity won rather than trashing her, especially since you or anyone else viewing doesn't know her.
  13. have you heard of something called The Simple Way? A guy called Shane Claiborne started it and has written a book about his life as a christian so far. starting off as conservative and ending up somewhere very different. anyway, one of the stories is of when he and a friend got tickets to the Republic Conference I think it was 1998 or it may have been later. They even managed to sit near the front, and then when Bush started to speak, they ripped off their suits and revealed t-shirts printed with what they began shouting some key verses on the poor will make it first etc. eventually they got dragged away, locked in a cupboard and he heard the secret service say, "what can do with them, if they are protesters we can arrest them" so when they opened the door and he was asked, are you a protester, he said "errr .... I am ... a prophet", and so they released them . anyway that story makes me smile. x
  14. yeah it is a really sad story. but maybe it is a good thing to be scared, i.e. don't waste life and happiness. make it work, or allow chances. I don't want to spoiler the story, but I suppose I have already done that above - anyway, go over to Adam Phillips' yahoo group, the guy who is finishing the story. They always are discussing things like this, but after the latest chapter release they got into a discussion of love and what the point of the story was from Sam's perspective, but also Brian (or John) and others chipped in about it as well - from their perspective about love being important enough and satisfying enough to go for it rather than live without it, even with all the pain it can bring. But then, every situation and couple is different. and in my life I haven't worked out these things either. good luck with whatever happens with you and Drew. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Adamstories/message/18381 celia
  15. yeah but come on, it was only a few parties. It wasn't a full scale attempt to change the vote. 2 or 3 parties couldn't have had that much of an affect, and a few of the employees not the company.
  16. watched the last act tonight and then the review, and I thought they were all pretty much flat. not much talent that I'd want to go through to the finals.
  17. I'd point you to that real-life story that Jeremy recommended above, It Started With Brian, the answer was yes it was a success - eventually.
  18. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/north_east/8065563.stm the church of scotland has voted to accept a gay clergyman in an aberdeen church. I don't quite know the history of the scottish church, but he says he was open about it while he was in his last post at a cathedral. must be that some people who didn't like it caught on this time. anyway, he lives with his partner and his new congregation support him. and now he has got the official ok by the general assembly. despite protest.
  19. wow that is a lot.
  20. congrats
  21. good luck!!
  22. I once made this poster and the word checker had slipped into the US mode, and got taken the piss out of because it had spelt mum, mom and I hadn't noticed. in fact my spell checker is telling me yours is wrong . , yep these are definitely english terms/spellings. I don't think I'd ever say butt, but bum yeah. It sounds strange otherwise . same with ass, though I use bum rather than arse. There are dialects in the UK too though. some things are standard like spelling mum that way, but depending on where you were brought up you may not actually say mum, but mother, or ma or lots of other things. Gran is another. grandma, nan, granny, etc.
  23. yeah wait until you are ready and in a position to. I think that it is important so I probably will. I'm not 'out' as such but some of my friends at home are so I'll likely do it with them (plus I'm single), that and everyone I'm around is gay-friendly and generally feels the way I do, nor am I worried if people assume that I am gay, so it wouldn't compromise me as it may you. celia
  24. So, are you going to take part? celia
  25. Yeah, I knew he'd written a book on him. he's written on quite a few people. and also it is then our fault - the new "school" for turning it into such a thing, not his. He like Derrida refused to take positions in universities preferring to be lose. and that is a criticism that people in the new movement remind themselves of, and those who forget that then have a problem. It is difficult because it seems that it is our nature to do that sort of thing - but again if you read his stuff on machines, abstractions, lines etc then that is also integral to his concepts - the 'capture', and constant process of 'territorialisation' and 'deterritorialisation'. his concepts pretty much revolve around that. --in terms of the objection. he is referring to being trapped by something. I would also say that often with his words you have to kind of take them carefully. but, as I said, he is about creating new concepts and mixing, so for him the idea of being tied to something is frustrating because he wants to get on to that creating business and feels restricted by the tools that are being given to him or even the arena he is allowed to work in. I don't really think that he dislikes all objection, but he is certainly making a point there. my reason for that is because his becoming concept is about everytime you encounter something you change I suppose - and so even if that is an objection then it is something to work with. but he would prefer to be free to explore something new instead, or at least new connections. innovation . as for him objecting, then I agree, but I am sure he would possibly see it as just sliding by. - i would point out that Deleuze ridicules Freud frequently in his works.
