  1. It reminds me of my mum. she would always tell me about the world of work (at least hers), and how the trick being to allow the male ego, let him think that he is making all the decisions, that is in control all powerful and the one making all the waves. when really you are cooling manipulating, feeding ideas and letting them think they are his own. does it matter right if you are getting what you want done even if you don't get the credit? back to relationships. I haven't really had a serious relationships so I can't really draw on what it was like. But I think I am a leading person and I do like control. But at the same time I don't want it all the time as it is tiresome. I want to be with someone who can also make decisions and be confident in them, it would drive me crazy to have to do that all the time, especially for the little ones. it's why 6 months ago I decided to give up on a potential crush because I realised that we wouldn't be compatible in that way. that and I don't want to be pushy or domineering and I felt that if I was having to make all the decisions all the time because they were shy and always 'I don't know' mainly unwilling to give an answer that I would end up becoming that way by default (in part trying to pressure them to tell me what they do really want). someone mentioned emotionally leading, I think that I want someone who is definitely at least equal, I think that's the important area of me. celia
  2. err nope. but not too femme either. definitely not a girly girl.
  3. haha, yep I drive too. i think i do take the lead on things, I often end up doing when nobody else does otherwise time is wasted or nobody says what they really feel (talking here mainly life in general). but yep I drive, i love driving though, wouldn't want to really give that up. celia
  4. the Little Ashes looks like it could be good, but it's not out yet. i once saw a Salvador Dali exhibition in London, which was amazing if not slightly creepy. so kind of fascinating to see a film about his life since I can't remember much about what I learnt about him except he most likely had a remarkable life. http://www.littleashes-themovie.com/video.php other interesting thing on that list was a documentary about a transexual and interviews with friends/family all of which do end up supportive. She's a Boy I Knew. which I'll hopefully watch soon as I get time: http://www.artflick.com/synopsis.html another movie that got good reviews on there was Save Me, controversially about the ex-gay ministry but 2 boys that fall in love there, I may watch it, it depends. http://divxvine.com/vjyujtpqtl41/vmt-savme-xvid.avi.html I wanted to watch the Pageant about Miss Gay America, but I couldn't find an easy link, but sounds interesting. celia
  5. I was looking for a review of a film and found this list of films about the seattle film festival last year, some may be worth watching. i certainly recognise Sugar Rush, but goodness, that was british tv about 4 years ago, certainly good, but strange it is only hitting US terf the end of last year. http://moviepie.blogspot.com/ enjoy celia
  6. Just had nutella, banana and choc icecream that my housemate bought. had 2 as well. normally I can't handle more than 1 without feeling sick. really don't like the sugar and lemon tradition. celia
  7. I just watched It's in the Water. Sort of funny. and full of cliches but it does well (can you tell by the title). it's lesbian and gay. I liked it anyway. celia

    Again

nah, don't let him bother you. it is better to be thinking your way. i don't think his ferrari is going to make him happy. nor endless sex, maybe highs for a while but nothing meaningful or truly sustainable, just little peaks. people will find you interesting for you, you are already miles ahead of that other guy who Isn't interesting for himself, you simply by that difference are! and i don't think it was any of his business, I used to work in a shop and a bar and people will chat to you about random stuff, often assuming loads of things about me, but it was more really about them and it was just mindless chat I most often never did correct them or say otherwise, merely nodded or smiled with odd-liners, it wasn't worth the effort to correct people on stuff they didn't really care about, me that is. that and there was usually a queue behind them. the same happens with my mum's ex patients who recognise me, they may actually care this time, but it still doesn't mean that I need to or should tell all or correct them, but I am polite. Celia
  9. yep, happy birthday!! Hope you are having a good day and have a great year celia
  10. A good friends, good friend , made the troubled water one so even though I haven't seen it I also feel tied to support it and say, it should get an Oscar .
  11. Slumdog millionaire was amazing! but very sad, I don't think it had a happy ending as most people would say it did. but very well produced. I hope it wins something. definitely worth a watch. celia
  12. I'd go with the A but the letter to the principal otherwise your daughter may find it difficult standing up to the teacher or may cause more embarrassment. Good luck Celia

    Snow Days

well you are entitled to your opinion; I just completely disagree. I'm not going to bother going through all of your points, because it is a waste of time since you will disregard them all. Simply, you state contracts and you mentioned the legally bound to maximise profits. well that is something that I don't have to accept as the status qou. It is maybe, doesn't mean it is right. if workers just left the employers to maximise profits then they would be run all over. as you say it is about the principle. stating contracts its just a way of getting around the fair principle. you are insisting on things be separate, yes it benefits the employer as it means they separate the workers and disable them from being able to stand up for themselves, because it is their competition that stops their bargaining power. and suggesting that Total can't afford to pay more for a decent wage is wrong. maybe an individual like me if I was in business may find it harder, but not them. just because market principles are the in thing, doesn't mean there shouldn't be rules in place that stop employers taking advantage and ensure living wages. the EU thing, well I was arguing for the same principles in the entire EU not just the UK. the strikers, at least the unions were stressing that. but it is easy for them to start to become xenophobic which I disagree with.

    Snow Days

I would take exception to that. why are the strikes ludicrous, and why is it an 'imagined' grievance. I don't like that it is being spun as an anti-foreigners strike, but they have the right, and they are not silly for standing up for themselves. what was happening was they were being undercut, and that is not fair. the italian's should have been paid higher wages too. they should not have to be told that they have to accept lower than living costs wages to 'save' an oil company that is making millions. for the foreign contractors were used because they were cheaper. and what about the unions, why is it that you think that because it was unofficial, i.e. not in the legal unions that the UK law 'allows' to exist as long as they play by their rules (which just serve to contain them for the sake of business) that they are any less justified or credible. Surely them doing it by themselves shows that they are all involved and want their voice heard, unlike the unions which are forced to keep quiet and are debatable in terms of their representation of the workers. and why do you think they were unofficial at least in the sympathy strikes, because one of those nifty laws that BANS sympathy strikes, another way of containing them and their ability to organise and resist what they are being told they just have to take, no matter what it does to their livelihoods. celia

    Snow Days

it is more snow than we've had for a while. yes everytime they do hype it up, but this is more than usual, especially down south where the 'main' centre is and all. about snow chains, I don't think the british know they exist, I certainly didnt until i went to france. and I also don't think that the train lines have had a 'dusting' of snow, there has certainly been more than that. we're in for more over the next few days too, just when I need to pass through london, so I hope its fine this time. also talk about the patterns of snow in england. well they've changed. when i lived in the north west, near the lakes, we had an awful lot of snow then, more than there is now. but that didnt happen everywhere. now there is a tilting towards the south and Ive noticed that the last 3-4 years, since my old home didnt have as much as it used to and there were reports from down south. now we seem to be having more again up north. but equally so and maybe more down south (don't know because they could just be complaining since they are not used to it). where i am now though, north north midlands there IS less than down south. celia
  17. we have snow, lots of it, at least for english standards . causing havoc to our system. i wish they had plows and gritters for pavements, I'm fed up of nearly slipping over on crushed snow ice
  18. I don't like children that much, find it stressful being around them all that long rather than I don't like them. but my favourite ever is a little boy called joel, he's adorable, hh5 you reminded me of him with your talk of kids, I haven't seen him in a year, but yeah his dad is black and from South America and his mum white (my mums best friend). he is the sweetest, cutest, most intelligent little boy ever, and his favourite colour is pink. I think interracial dating can become an issue in a place where there isn't much racial diversity, it depends where you live and the people, but some places it can then become an issue, less that I think they are racist (well they are) but due to they aren't used to seeing it so it stands out. from reading your comments and just generally hearing about america it seems like there is a lot of racial diversity, whereas here in the UK it depends very much where you are. there are certain parts of the country where there is a big mix, London for example but most places are very white. or then there is quite apparent segregation within cities or towns in terms of where people live, not everywhere but it is quite prominent. celia
  19. haha thats funny
  20. hmm. yeah look up the figures. I had heard of some of them. i'd double check the 25th stuff. not actually really sure when jesus was supposed to have been born.
