This chapter(s) answered some unasked questions. (You know unless we view the addition as a chapter bonus, chapter numbering is screwed.) I may be Agent Reed incarnate. Anachronauts can live a very long time. Agent Reed seems a threat at the moment, but could be an ally or even friend. Stoker's doorway to Matter is an open one. If he sees it as a way to protect Hugo, he'll take it.

This chapter was a true revelation. Hugo realizes why Penderslwigh gave him the watch, it was his escape. Now they are in another devious trap. They are too valuable to let go and by some will be seen as too dangerous to live.
