George's reputation precedes him and they're worried about this minor wine smuggling operation they have going. The sycophantic oaf Campbell caught on to it, so there's no way George would miss it. George is pragmatic and couldn't care less about a little wine. He's also not Bertie. He's willing to overlook it, but he won't take a bribe.
