  1. Great clue/great 3-person challenge. After searching list of Nobel prize winners, I came up with the 1945 prize for medicine for the discovery of penicillin. The prize was shared by Alexander Fleming, Ernst Boris Chain, and Howard Walter Florey.
  2. Followup: SEOUL, South Korea Asiana Airlines announced Monday that it was going to sue a San Francisco TV station that it said damaged the airline's reputation by using bogus and racially offensive names for four pilots on a plane that crashed earlier this month in San Francisco. An anchor for KTVU-TV read the names on the air Friday and then apologized after a break. The report was accompanied by a graphic with the phony names listed alongside a photo of the burned-out plane that had crashed at San Francisco International Airport on July 6, killing three and injuring dozens. KTVU and the NTSB have apologized: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ug5zKwJuWbU&feature=player_detailpage I assume the NTSB summer intern involved will seek a career elsewhere.
  3. San Francisco TV stations falls for prank in connection with Asiana Airlines crash... https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=hSRnNC5s3Jw An example of the very finest in investigative reporting.

    Shapshot July

Congratulations on your improving health. Enjoy your travel. Can you use a few days of your annual leave at the end of each of these foreign trips? It would be a great way to see new places.
  5. There was a ventriloquist who'd had no work for six months. He went to his agent and told him he needed work badly. The agent said, "There's no call for ventriloquists, but if you were a psychic, I could get you plenty of work." So the ventriloquist went home and hung out a psychic sign. An hour later, a woman knocked on the door: "I want to talk to my deceased husband. How much will it cost?" The ventriloquist said, "If you talk to him, it's $50; if he talks to you, it's $100; and if you talk to each other while I'm drinking a glass of water, it'll be $200."
  6. Not a problem. I will be a very interested bystander.
  7. Hmmm. A very familiar face. I will sit this one out.
  8. A guy walked into his friend's office and found him sitting at his desk, looking very depressed. "Hey, what's up with you?" "Oh, it’s my wife," replied the man sadly. "She's hired a new secretary for me." "Well, nothing wrong in that. Is she blonde or brunette?" "Neither. He's bald."
  9. Oops! Yes, Paya got that one. My bad.
  10. Justice is blind. Many of the cases of the sort you mention are never brought to trial. It's not because Justice is blind and doesn't see all the injustice. It's because the current Attorney General of the US is a political animal and very selective in the cases the Department of Justice will pursue. Enough said.
  11. Yes, Red Skelton, America's favorite clown. The many faces of Red Skelton: George Appleby (w/Jane Wyman) Clem Kadiddlehopper (w/Laara Lacey, Gene Barry) San Fernando Red (w/Kay Starr, Jackie Coogan) Mean Widdle Kid/Junior (w/Ginger Rogers) Freddie the Freeloader (w/Carol Sydes, Frank McHugh) Cauliflower McPugg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The key clues I gave: I think the roses have become a red herring. The clues provide at least skeletal facts needed to identify the person. Now, who thinks I give only misleading clues? Podga, go!
  12. Red might be a good color to consider. I'm a big Red Sox fan, BTW, and had considered using a Boston picture as a clue just as I did the St Louis picture earlier. I also live in a red state if anyone was wondering. Nope, not the Red Baron. Keep trying; someone will get it soon.

Still others do nothing, which isn't always a bad thing.
  14. Hey! A good guess, but wrong. I think you picked the right clue, but the wrong word. Try again. Another good guess, but wrong. Maybe the best guess yet. Try again.
  15. Nope. Nope. The pertinent color is not brown. Pleasant dreams. There are many colorful English surnames: White, Black, Green, Brown, Blue, Gray, Gold, Silver, Rose, Green, Scarlet, Amber...and probably a few more. This is not a clue, just an observation. Don't limit your thinking on this one. Neither the subject, nor his parents, were hippies.
  16. The FDA will probably look at this effort as if it were a poll...unscientific.
  17. Come on. Be a sport. Think!
  18. I have mentioned the word "color" and the word "rose" in the same sentence only once (see first quote above). I have repeatedly attempted to get you to forget about the color of the roses and the color rose. The color does not have any political significance and the subject was not a politician. I beg to differ about US newscasters; they very consistently use the colors red and blue when referring to political parties, politicians, states, and ideologies. On rare occasion, they use the color purple, the meaning of which is quite clear. Now, pay attention... The clues I have given are helpful...more helpful if you think of some color other than rose. The clues I have given very nearly contain the person's exact name. Look at the clues and FORGET ROSE. Put a little effort into it. Quit your bitchin'.
  19. "Color" is very important in identifying this person even though the picture is black and white. Forget rose. You will need to put some effort into it.
