(pick only THREE or less please) this condition was very hard for me  . The choice was not easy ! I came first for the stories, but there are a lot of other sites bringing also gay stories. So I chose the reasons why GA is unique: the 'community' feel and aspect of the forums, the discussion/informational/intellectual aspect of the forums, and the blogs. I would also mention two other points : GA is a place where you can meet a lot of different people, different in ages, different in mentalities, different in nationalities, different in social positions, different in origins, and still become a very close friend to them, just by sharing the same interests and talking the same language (I don

Kevin, you are the best I always wonder how you find the exact words to express your opinion. If you were interested in a politic career, and a wealthy one, your gift would be to become the assistant of a "big fish", writing all his speeches, staying in the shadow but earning all the profits of his successes. IMO, independence days have rather a sense when the "fatherland" is in danger, like it was for us in 1940/41, when the Nazis prepared the invasion of Switzerland. The 1rst of August was the occasion to strengthen the will of resistance against them. But USA was never in such a position since 1770 . So their citizens are no more aware of the sense of the 4th of July . Nevertheless, I wish you a nice "get together" with friends, a delightful special meal and not only a few drinks .

In my country, the Independence Day (1th of August) is an important Anniversary. We celebrate the signature of The Federal Charter or Letter of Alliance, which documents the Eternal Alliance or League Of The Three Forest Cantons, the union of three cantons in what is now central Switzerland, traditionally dated in early August, 1291. The league was set up as a league for defense purposes against any attacker, probably prompted by the death of Rudolf I of Habsburg on 15 July 1291. On August the first, the whole country gathers in public places around bonfires and listens to speeches about the independence of the country from the Austrian rulers, which started with the Gr

Hey, did you feast well ? For those who have no idea about the night of Midsummer's Eve : "traditional events include raising and dancing around a huge maypole. One typical dance is the frog dance. Before the maypole is raised, greens and flowers are collected and used to cover the entire pole. Raising and dancing around a maypole (majst

MMMMM..... It remembers me that we have 2 dozens Burgundy snails in the freezer... its 10 am here, they will be ready just in time for the first part of our lunch today Before a nice plate of italian raviolis, with basilic and garlic and a mixed green salat, and at the end a fruit salad for desert. The problem is the wine. white (dry) with the snails, red (italian) with the raviolis, and a sweet one with the desert ? I will need to take a nap after lunch . BTW about garlic, has anybody (apart Fran

Sorry Nick, but you are wrong ! Switzerland is about 600 miles away from Scandinavia and its a lot for food traditions. To answer your question : no similarities ! I tried to research on Google adresses of swiss restaurants in the States. There are certainly a lot. I know some in New York. <perhaps you can find one near your place ? Good luck for your quest Old Bo

I know just 2 examples of "British" food : Irish stew and Haggis, traditional Scottish dish. Irish stew (in Irish Stobhach Gaelach) is a traditional Irish dish made from lamb or mutton, (mutton is used as it comes from less tender sheep over a year old and is fattier and more flavourful) as well as potatoes, onions, and parsley. There are many recipes of Haggis, most of which have in common the following ingredients: sheep's 'pluck' (heart, liver and lungs), minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, and traditionally boiled in the animal's stomach for approximately three hours. My friends from GB told be it's worth to try both. I agree for the Irish stew, we cook it often at home. But Haggis ? It's not "my cup of tea", as we say in French . Old bob

This post is specially dedicated to Procyon White. In a last chat, the discussion came on foreign dishes. At this occasion, I was asked about typical Swiss dishes and the chat went on much too quickly to give me the time to answer. So my suggestion: We have members all around the world, and each country has its favorite dishes. And I suppose there are a lot of gastronomes around us, people who appreciate good meals and like to try new savors. So my detailed answer, first for my country. Swiss people are very simple-minded (James would say

Hahaha ! It could be a new topic : "best ideas to organize gay weddings". Kevin, you could be a master in this matter , and I'm not joking ! You have a choice, weddings with or without a pastor (or any other priest of any other religion), civil weddings (for the States wher gay mariages are legal), inside or outside (a wedding open by night, under the stars, what a nice picture and a memory for ever !) think of it . Thanks for your comment DK will surely be happy about that. and Thanks for the pizza, it was me . Unfortunately, you would have to send it by shipping , I'm in Geneva (Switzerland, Europe, the small country middle of the Alps) I propose you to eat it yourself, with a glass of good wine, and raise your glass in my honor; Cheers ! BTW, the description in your profile (who I am and what I do) is very interesting. You really should be participating no only with your stories but interfering in all forums. It's another side of the pleasure I have to be in GA, and not the less important . And dont forget the Gay Authors Political Forums . Old bob

CJ, you know that I don't comment often your chapters. I have no questions about what happened or will happen, neither to admire all your cliffhangers because its always an evidence that you are the king of them . But this time, I want to say you never wrote a best chapter ; a model of action, a thriller for itself, the fighters exchanging their acts like first class tennis players in a "Grand Chlem"! Each phrase coming just when needed, each character kept going as he should, with the reader out of breath. overwhelmed . Good work done. I suppose the pressure will even climb more till the end. I can't waite of the next chapter

Happy delayted Birthday, Greg! The advantage to be so late, as I am, is that you can profit and use the nice words the other told you (BTW, you know that English is a foreign langage for me ). So : Best wishes for a great day!! (copyright Sat8997) Enjoy the rest of your cupcakes as breakfast! (copyright Zilar) Hope you and your hot self have a great day!(copyright Napervic) Happy Birthday Greg! Hope you had some time on the weekend to celebrate! Well it's not so easy to be short in my explanations ! In jewish mariage, the ceremony reaches its climax with both the bride and bride groom drinking wine. The groom then steps on a glass to break it. The origin of this custom is shrouded in mystery, and various understandings of this custom exist. Following text comes from a site called "Jewish Wedding Ceremony Explained" : Breaking of the Glass "If I forget you, O Jerusalem let my right hand forget its cunning" - Psalms 137:5 "A glass is placed before the Chatan, which he shatters by stepping upon it. This act serves as an expression of sadness at the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, and identifies with the spiritual and national destiny of the Jewish people. A Jew even at the moment of his or her own greatest possible personal and religious rejoicing, is always mindful of the Psalmist's injunction to 'set Jerusalem above my chiefest joy.' It also serves as a reminder that even when celebrating with great merriment and joy this must be conducted within that which Jewish law deems appropriate and respectable. Breaking of the glass marks the conclusion of the ceremony. " Sometimes, the fact that you dont want the glass been shattered is a way to express, in spite to accepting your "Jewness" you don't agree with the strict orthodox rules (I didnt, but forgot where I lost the glass ) . Welcome here JoelIn Space. From your comment, I'm sure you can give us even more than you will take from GA . You seem to be already a member of a lot of communities and all exchanges are profitable. And tell us what kind of stories you like a most . Take care and have a good day, as says one of our prolific members. Old Bob

Hi "Falling Star", practice and trust yourself ! The employer want to know if you are the best for the job, and not that you need the job ! Dont forget : the first impression (the first 2 minutes) depends not only from what you say. The body "attitude" (staying straight ( ), looking in the eyes, showing "confidence", smiling) is also very important. do like actors do : make a rehearsal, with a friend as employer. And dont forget to tell us how do you feel and if you got the job ! Take care, dont give up . We are all with you. Old Bob (I suppose the eldest of the family )
