  1. HAPPY 29th BIRTHDAY TIM I wish you to fulfil all your own wishes, to enjoy all your days and collect a lot of happy memories.
  2. Once again, I found the best example in CJames's site : under "Awards the stories have received" And IMO he is right to be proud about it My only hope is that this poll, and the comments it got, will encourage more readers to cross the border and become members of the writing tribe .
  3. English is not my mothertongue and I can only write fluently in french. I tried once to translate a short story from Graeme with great pleasure, but I found only one reader (Bonwriter) able to read it . A "Pulitzer Price" for GA writers ? It would be interesting but only under following conditions : - several categories for each kind of story, - two types of prices : the first one selected by a very large panel of readers (and readers only !) the second one selected jury elected by all members, for instance the twelve most appreciated writers, selected through the general quality of their comments . I know, it would be complicated, but it would be funny

    My next year

Thanks for the news, we are all with you. A good mood is 50 % of the healing ! Good luck for the chemo. As I know from my own experience, its not an very easy time, but everybody around you will help. As Rigel says :"So I hereby amend the best wishes and prayers--for BOTH of you." So do I.
  7. Dreams are always part of your life, but they are only dreams. You cannt live without, but real life is not made of dreams. Keep going, enjoy the gifts of the present, remember the good times of the past and let the future be the future ! Its my experience of soon 80 years of a fulfiled life. Good luck.
  8. Happy Thanksgiving Day (Days !) to all . We had allready our TD last month, even both, we have a swiss one and a genevan one. The "Je
  9. sadness : Sadness is an emotion characterized by feelings of disadvantage, loss, and helplessness. When sad, people often become quiet, less energetic, and withdrawn. Sadness is considered to be the opposite of happiness, and is similar to the emotions of sorrow, grief, misery, and melancholy. The philosopher Baruch Spinoza defined sadness as the
  10. Happy Birthday Angel You wrote in your profile : "I'm an engineering student who grows cell lines and works really hard on making literature, which is a questionable pastime for any self-respecting engineer-to-be.". How wrong you are ! Any "engineer-to-be" should have other interests as technical ones ! You are on the right path, keep going and enjoy life. I wouldnt be as happy as I'm without my studies in ancient greek and latin, which opened my mind.
  11. Kit is right with his advices (I underligned the 3 most importants IMO). The more people you meet, the more chances you will find "Mr. Right". Dont ask if he is the right one on the first step, dont be afraid to test. Even making bad experiences could be a way to the success. Looking on you age, I suppose you could be a shy person. Let it go, enjoy all the contacts you make and show your positive sides (everybody has ones !) to your ouside world. But let it going slow with new acquaintances, dont show your intentions too quickly. Going step by step is the best way to go. Thats my advices and I have 65 years of happy experiences (and also bad ones ). Believe me, your chances are great if you trust yourself. I wish you also good luck on your hunt. You are certainly not too old for that. Old bob
  12. What did you want to be when you grew up? Today, after 79 years of a life full of a lot of decisions to be taken, its no so easy to remember what I wanted. At the beginning, when I was 16, it was just the end of WWII, I wanted to be independant, working for and with people and ready to choose anything what life would offer. Each time I was not happy with my momentary work, fate gave my an opportunity to change. I used it. Sometimes it was a good choice, sometimes it wasnt ! But always I did what I wanted to do. So now I can pretend I fulfilled all my wishes. It was successively an engineer, a filmdistributor, a management consultant, a teacher, a lawyer, I earned and lost a lot of money. Looking back, I think it was more fun to loose than to earn it ! In one word, I dont regret any of the choices I made.
  13. No, now since about 50 years ! The last time I remember, It was during my military period. I was a young (less 30) junior officer and I had to work with a general, leading the swiss air force. At the beginning, I was so impressed that my voice failed. I was the first and last time, but I want to be honest and answered "Only to someone who is superior than me". old Bob
  14. Keep going, Trebs, a positive mood helps a lot ! I know what we are talking about. BTW, a book helped me when I was in the same situation as you are now. It is : "getting weel again" by Carl Simonton, Stephanie Matthews-Simonton and James Creighton, edited by J.P. Tarcher Inc, (CA) in 1982. It was a best-seller Perhaps you can find and read it ? Good luck !
  15. In the definition used here, God and Evil are distinct concepts. For me, they are two sides of the same Power. The best proof : the Book of Job !
  16. Happy Birthday Robert! My best wishes for your future (of both !) and a lot of nice days (and nights ). You seems (from your comments) to be the best side of Dan, his gardian angel, and I wish plain success in this hard burden .
  17. Happy Birthday Drew My best wishes for an successful future Its nice to have you as a good friend and to have the pleasure to chat with you. Have a good day and take care of you Old bob
  18. Hi Kevin, dont look back too much ! Just enjoy each day without thinking of the past and the future. "carpe diem" my friend. You torture yourself with your feelings about your age ! Believe me, each age has its pleasures. I'm the best proof of it BTW, we talked allready about the same subject a year ago. It seems to be a bad habit of you to "fall" in the same mood each year when your birthday comes near .
  19. HAPPY 18th BIRTHDAY IAN 18 is a big number I wish you a happy beginning in the adult age ! welcome to the elders . and have a good birthday today! Old Bob
  20. Hi CJ, enjoy your vacation Alaska ? I suppose you need a cold place . But is it really a place to go on holidays ? Will you bring some pictures back ? Be careful about bears

  22. "Do as you would be done by" I wouldnt like to be the victim of a dirty play. So I answer No.
  23. I followed at the swiss TV. Nice show, from 2.08 pm till..... I dont know. it was nap time and I fell asleep ! We have an extra TV channel here to follow all the games. I will only look at them where swiss athletes will be involved . BTW, even if you dont accept China's politics, Olympic Games are an opportunity to meet people around and to open an dialogue about other subjets than politics . I remember the 1936 Games. Hilter tried to make a show of a new Germany but today we remember more Jesse Owens than the Hitler show ! See Jess Owens .
  24. Hey Graeme, Here the site you need to fulfil you whish : moving along a canal in France enjoy ! Old Bob, who would do the same if he would be 20 years younger
  25. HAPPY 67TH BIRTHDAY I wish you many, many years of happiness, joy and pleasures. You deserve it. I hope you will experiment that the years upward are be the best ones, because you have nothing to fear anymore, just as Horace says : Pluck The Day Don't seek, my friend, we cannot say what end's in store for you, for me: don't trust in vague astrology, Better to shoulder what will be, whether you soon will die, or stay to watch the shore exhaust the sea. So drink some wine while your hours flee, put small trust in posterity, and prune your hopes; but pluck the day.
