  1. I rejoice that there are faith communities which seek to open their arms and embrace everyone. Your news is heartening in a spite-filled world. I hope this sonnet is encouraging to you. Many thanks for your thoughts and response.
  2. Too many must lean against the wind just to stand; still more have paid a heavy price for simply being who they are. I yet believe that rainbow colored flower you identified can help us change the world. Thank you for your comments and for reading.
  3. Thank you very much.
  4. The timing was right, I thought. Thank you very much for reading this!
  5. I bid you search my garden for a rose as red as blood shed by those innocents who with injustice and malevolence have pled in vain for mercy’s precedence, nor will you find a trembling blameless blossom white like to a soul who from them flees in sorrowed solitary or communal fright to hide from hatred’s dread disease. Yet in amongst the greening stalks and stems there grows a flower in resplendent dress, its leaves and petals colored with celest

    Thirty-Eight

This chapter gave me the impression of emptiness, and of deep solitude, despite the other people on the ward. Aiden is probably trying to get Liam and Ed to be some kind of friends, which might fill Liam’s emptiness, but it may take far more work than Aiden realizes.
  7. Home for Lucas and a warm welcome for Jubal. Clearly, there’s plenty each man could contribute to a partnership, if there were ever to be one. Lucas wasn’t shy about looking, which might cause Jubal some restless dreams. Looking forward to another chapter.

You’re most welcome. Thanks for reading and listening.

    The Carpenter

It’s fun knowing this unconventional sonnet was a treat. The treat for me is that the recording was okay to your ear. Thank you very much for reading and commenting.

    The Carpenter

Recordings never sound like my own voice to me, so it’s hard for me to judge if they’re okay. Thank you very much for reading and listening!

    The Carpenter

Thank you! You make me glad that I tried recording again.

    The Carpenter

I’m glad you liked the recording. Thank you for trying it.

    The Carpenter

Indeed. If I want to be found, it’s sometimes best just to wait patiently for someone who knows who he’s looking for. Thanks very much for your thoughts!

    The Carpenter

Thank you! I had fun putting these lines together.
  15. The carpenter knows where the basswood grows as the jay is aware of the berry, while the monarch goes where the wild red rose decks the meadow in finery merry, and hungry black bears leave their crude affairs in a quest for delectable sweetness scented soft in airs to take unawares chosen noses which know incompleteness. But anywhere I, searching low and high, seek that visage my spirit sustaining, find all hopes awry while these smiles belie

    Actual Words

I enjoyed reading this chapter. With each one, you build more and more of a fascinating world.

    Chapter 3 Bean

Jubal is better off now than two chapters back. Now if he could just get things to calm down a bit, so he can get himself established… but that’s not in the cards, is it?
  18. Perry has the right idea: Kyan and Perry’s friendship, their multifaceted connections, are most important. Good for him for recognizing this. If only he’d said something about it sooner.
  19. Welcome! Enjoy browsing authors and genres. You’re sure to find something that suits you.

    Tinnitus

You're right that I was initially stunned. Thank you for your most kind words. So much of what we know and experience about ourselves, tinnitus included, echoes in the background of our lives. Sometimes these cannot be ignored, at other times, they are simply woven into the fabric of our existence. I am so glad that this poem spoke deeply to you.
  21. A quick, lethal gunfight cements a kind of partnership between Jubal and Lucas. I fear for their future. Somewhere out there is a bandit thirsting for revenge.

    Tinnitus

I’ve never observed what amplifies or dulls the sound level. I’m fascinated that sugar can do this for you. Now I’m going to have to pay attention! Thank you so much for your reactions and for reading.

    Tinnitus

Thank you for your thoughts on this. It’s hard to describe such an intensely personal and yet continuous experience. I’m glad it can speak to you too.

    Tinnitus

You made me smile to read this. That this touched your soul will reverberate in mine for a long time. I confess to feeling like a tightrope walker without a net when I write unstructured poems; your comment makes me feel like Wallenda over Niagara Falls. Thank you.
