Week Seven Wednesday, October 15, 2014: Phantasmagasm
Parker Owens commented on skinnydragon's story chapter in Week Seven Wednesday, October 15, 2014: Phantasmagasm
David is all over the emotional map, it seems, but fixating on Kathy will (a) break Twoey's heart when (not if) he hears about it and ( confuse the crap out of him later. But try telling him that now. And fantasizing about Matty! Oh, man. David's got to be confused about that, too. Hope he takes Ginny's advice, and hope Dr. K will help David think more clearly. But I'm not sanguine - I think David will help Twoey heal only to break his heart. Sorry. -
Change in the Weather

Love the idea of a study hall poetry collection. Thanks for looking over this one. I liked it, too. -
Well. No way will I comment your predictions but I appreciate your take on Andy's reticence around his friends. His so called dad didn't just make a scene, he dragged him off. And yes, his friends chose a lousy strategy afterwards waiting for Andy to come back. But Andy is used to being hurt, conditioned to it, and in a very bad emotional place. He was afraid to make that leap to bridge the gap, thinking he'd be rejected or ridiculed. That's his experience, and about a month plus of good can't outweigh the years of bad quite so easily. At least, that's how I saw it. But I fully appreciate the way you have experienced this story, too, and I thank you for your take on it. As for your predictions....thanks so much for this great post.

Change in the Weather
Parker Owens commented on Parker Owens's story chapter in Change in the Weather
The deer are everywhere right now, all adrift, nervous and confused. It will get better for them when the snow comes. They'll know where to go. Kind of feel like that myself sometimes. Thanks for reading and reviewing. -
Change in the Weather

Thank you. This is the kind of stuff we think of supervising study halls. -
Autumn's scent changes color tasting lighter on the tongue. Deer transfixed in greying fields weigh ashen gloom against winds rising far beyond unknown mountains. Stones and maples wait, impatient children long denied their sleep. All wait the coming great white change from waking into rest.

Very interesting construction. The' He and I' back and forth plays beautifully. I like the images you evoked, too. Thanks for this poem!

Thank you for this review. Glad the story was translucent, not transparent. In my experience, most schools hereabouts will continue heating and so in a storm unless them power fails; even so, many have backup generators for minimal heat (cheaper .than repairing the damage later, and because schools serve as emergency shelters). The big worry for closed school is being able to get out and eat if everything is closed. Andy would get hungry very quickly. Ironically, another danger is the very irregularity of the situation; it's totally new to Andy. Thank you so very much for continuing to read and leave comments. I truly appreciate every one.

And thank you for being patient enough to read so far into the story. I am glad the final portion of the chapter was a bit of a surprise for you. It was a tough part of the story to piece together, and I'm glad it held. How will Zander react to this? It's not his journal, so it's hard to say...thank you so much for reviewing; reviews and comments mean a lot.

I'm glad you felt the chapter was a good one; it was hard to piece together, at first. Thank you very much for reviewing and for reading so far.

Thanks for your reviews. I look forward to them. Andy may not have snow sense much, and certainly no winter great to speak of. That stuff can be pretty bulky. Andy pulled himself through s days, probably much in the same way he did after a stretch of bad days with his own father back in Carlsberg. But this time, he has has to shut out people who might actively take an interest. The terrible thing is that if he tries to shut people out, he might actually be successful. Thanks for sticking with the story so far!

Or maybe just.plain 'oh.' Andy was slowly recovering from his horrible encounter with Green Hat. And now, what, exactly? Sorry to be vague. You pose some possibilities, but what we know for sure is that the winter can be deadly. Thank you for reading and sticking with the story to this point. I appreciate your comments!

Illusions of Love and The Trickster
Parker Owens commented on Mikiesboy's story chapter in Illusions of Love and The Trickster
You write very powerfully in each of these. Trickster speaks very much to me, and you should know you are not alone in what this poem make one feel. And yet, I surely hope that we are more than what the poem suggests, for that we are means we may be genuine. Illusions plays on our fears, the ones we listen to when the Trickster is talking to us. I wait on the hope that is surely there, waiting for me at the end of every smile, or hug, or encouraging word. The sure hope that the nasty little voice is too full of malice to be right. Thank you to speaking these for us. -
So many, many unanswered questions. Andy dragged himself around for several weeks, trying to put himself back together. It didn't look too good, and he was still hurt and pretty miserable. For now, we'll have to wonder how Andy wound up in the hay. He's not an alpaca, that's certain. Thanks for you review, and for your continued reading of the story.

Augh. You're the third to call be cruel. Now I shall have to beg your pardons, all. I'm glad you felt the 'wow;' it's exactly how I felt after putting in the last period. Also glad your suspicions were confirmed, though a bit chagrined that the story was that transparent. Thank you so much for reading and reviewing...I really appreciate it.
-
I'm sorry all you were going to write got tossed aside. I should like to see it, someday. Andy was at least dragging himself out of his hole and trying to make a recovery of sorts. Then winter happened.
-
Oh dear. I didn't mean to be cruel. I'm glad this chapter was a 'wow' for you. The experience with Roger Green Hat really hurt Andy, and he's clearly trying to drag himself out of his hole, bit by bit. But winter finally arrived with a vengeance. Thank you for reading and for your review.

Holy shit. That was your father? No wonder you never talked about him. No wonder you never told anyone where you lived. But after he took you away, we all felt kind of sick. In school, we all looked for you, but you weren't there. When you reappeared, you were different. You looked like hell, and you didn't talk, not to anyone. You avoided me, us, everybody. You pushed us away. Terry, of all people, said we shouldn't talk about it, and she kept her promise. None of us heard any gossip about you

An Astounding Evening
Parker Owens commented on ColumbusGuy's story chapter in An Astounding Evening
Your chapters continue to make me smile. Thanks for this one! -
This is a splendid beginning. Reflective without too much bitterness, given the nature of Toph's relationship to his world. What a goodbye to Austin. Not all of us were so lucky as we left high school as to have that kind of farewell. The new roommates appear to be full of potential for adventure, perhaps - in any case, they're new people, which may be exactly what Toph feels he needs. What a pity this story will post only slowly! Many thanks for sharing this with us all.

Andy is ashamed, scared, and bitter over what happened. He's lost so much more than money. He didn't lose his whole stash, after all, just his day's wages. Really, he's feeling he lost his friends and a source of hope. The good thing is he's resilient. We know that. The bad news is. It looks like he's starting over. Again. More coming today...thank you for this review, and for reading Andy's story so far.

You are correct in that Andy lost only his earnings for the weekend. Insulting enough, I suppose. Thank you for bringing up that confusion. I hope you are enjoying the story so far. I thank you for continuing to read, and for your review.

Week Seven Tuesday, October 14, 2014: Confidence
Parker Owens commented on skinnydragon's story chapter in Week Seven Tuesday, October 14, 2014: Confidence
Agree with JB's short and some of CG's extended comments. Great chapter, David is disappointing, though some positives are happening to him. Don't know if Dr. Keating will be of any use at all. A lot of that will depend on David's interaction with him, and whether he decides to trust him. David is so very wrapped up in being "normal" that he doesn't see how non-normal he is becoming. And while his relationship with his mother is dysfunctional, that's not why it's happening. Even Gary notices, and kissing Kathy just doubles down on an increasingly unlikely bet that David will be able to recapture his vision of normality. But try telling him that. Please tell me that there will be more very soon! -
Poor Andy is in shock right now. He's lost so much. He's reeling and feeling terrible about himself. Whatever relationship he had with Zander, Kaz and Terry, it's going to be different. From Andy's viewpoint, he may experience shame and anger - not a good recipe for friendship. The questions will have to wait, I think. Thank you so much for reading and for leaving your comments. They are much appreciated.
