    Band of Brothers

I’m fascinated by this turn of events. I wonder how having a whole family of vampires as part of a clan will change its dynamic.
  2. Thanks for taking us to Barcelona! I’ve always wanted to go there.
  3. How lovely you are to have taken time to read this aloud. The accent matters only to your own ear, in my opinion. I’ve never liked the sound of my own voice on a recording, so it seems likely someone else would sound better to the ear. If the rhythm and imagery came through to you, then that’s what is most important. Many, many thanks for reading and considering this experiment.
  4. You’re very kind to have lent your eye and ear to this experiment. I’m glad you thought the rhyming worked, and that you could feel the variation in rhythm. Many thanks for your reading and response.
  5. I fear that Frere Jacques rhymes regionally over on this part of this side of the pond. I’m wondering if it’s that first line in the second stanza that feels like sharp edged stone rather than something polished. Thanks very much for taking part in this experiment!
  6. Thank you for reading this one. I puzzled over getting my feelings to mesh with the rhymes. I’m so happy that you think it works!
  7. Friendship’s like music; two strings tuned alike will both stir, though but only one you strike – Francis Quarles, 1592-1644 ~ * ~ * ~ A harmony heard clearly as a bell struck by the village steeple clock resounding on the hillside and the dell o’er shepherd boy and feeding flock to vibrate where the spirit may incline amongst the birch and whisp’ring pine is like the tune of hearts which may combine
  8. Kavan has matured physically and is now growing into his place in the clan. But what will be his larger place in this world, I wonder? And what, if anything, can be done to turn Mother’s malevolence aside?

    The Captain

I’m loving your setup to this story! I have always wanted to take a sailing cruise. Now you’re allowing us to do so vicariously along with some of my favorite people!
  10. I’m most grateful for your kind words and even more for your comments throughout your reading. I hope Andy and Zander and all the good characters here continue to inhabit your mind as they do mine. Again, many, many thanks.
  11. I so enjoyed visualizing this as I wrote it. And Monica and Nonna must have been miracle workers to make it all fall into place. I’m so happy you enjoyed being there too.
  12. I’m glad you thought this was a nice surprise. It’s good to see Andy had real family too. Then again, he seems to have gathered to himself a whole extended family of his own making. Thanks again for reading!
  13. The Question must be maddening, yet it’s one that can’t be helped. Yet at the same time, the marriage is becoming much more real. And he really ought to call Dr. O’Shea, but he doesn’t want to be any trouble to anyone. That instinct is ingrained in him still. Thank you very very much for reading and for your responses.
  14. @CincyKris Eustace is indeed a delightful character. He’s steadfast and has a down to earth practicality like you describe. I’m very glad you got to see him again! Thanks so much for reading!
  15. It's hard to be Eeyore in the face of joy and laughter and release like this, isn't it? Ambrose's visit was far better than anything Andy could have imagined. He has a real uncle, real family. It was fun figuring out how Ambrose might have caught up to Andy - it was, like Andy's missing the police car on the road, plain luck. Eustace still cares for Andy, despite everything, and that must mean a lot to him. I will leave you to your laundry, but with my thanks for reading the extra chapter and for taking time to comment.
  16. Andy and Zander have had a lot to be excited and apprehensive about lately - now this! No, Ambrose wasn't a bad guy. But in Andy's mind, he's the one who is most likely to send him back to Carlsberg. Thanks very much for commenting and especially for continuing to stick with the story.
  17. You're correct. At the time this was written, it was generally 16, with parent/guardian or judicial consent. There's no question that Andy's proposal will surprise the heck out of Monica and Garrett. If I try to put myself in their shoes, I'd have a lot of questions, to say the least. Thanks very much for continuing to read Andy's journal.
  18. Andy's sprint toward something new and better - even if it wasn't wholly definable - is a big broad jump forward. But poor Andy's stomach must still be full of butterflies from his appearance in court, even though it turned out well. Thanks very much for your thoughts!
  19. I think Mrs. Chandler got way more opposition than she bargained for in Garrett Stevenson. Andy is immensely lucky, even as he feels a mix of determination and apprehension. Thanks again for reading!
  20. Andy has a long way to go, but this one night showed what life can be like if he continues his healing, and stays close to people who love him. Many thanks to you for reading, and for your continued responses.
  21. I have had Reed's story on my back burner for a while, simmering. The story hasn't made its way off the stove, let alone out of the kitchen. But it's at least on my mind. I've kind of got Reed's character pieced together in my mind, but some of the scenes and events continue to need a lot of work.
  22. Andy almost being a normal teenager is a huge thing. He's come a very long way since getting out of Carlsberg. Thanks so very much for your thoughts, and for reading.
  23. Andy could face the abyss of his memories because he feels anchored, held, by Zander’s love. That let him make the strides forward you noted. Perhaps he will feel able to accept that consciously, but that may be a while. Thanks again for reading and for your responses.
  24. You’d be right in that there’s more sunshine in these chapters. And who’s to say chocolate doesn’t heal? Thanks for reading!
  25. Showing himself and telling his story to Zander and his parents must have taken immense courage for Andy. Knowing that Zander was right there with him must have helped. I’m very happy you thought this chapter was satisfying. Thanks again for reading!
