  1. And now for something offbeat... Something that's been running through my head all day.
  2. That’s so good! It reminds me of a summer evening at dusk with friends, engaged in conversation.
  3. A horror writer? I’ve never given that much thought. While it’s possible to paint in darker hues, the attraction to brighter tones remains too strong. However, if these images of wolves and crows and dark suited figures conjure up something scary, then maybe you’re on to something. Thank you for reading these and for your response.
  4. You’re most welcome, and I’m very happy you enjoyed my observations at summertide. I suspect that crows are skilled at hurling insults the whole world over. Is there such a thing as a well-mannered crow? It was electrifying to hear the wolves sing into the night, and to be so very close to them. Many thanks for reading these, and for sharing your reactions.
  5. I’m immensely grateful for your kind words, and still more so for your invention and sharing of this poetic form. Dark-suited words finally completed the much-scratched-out draft of that poem. Perhaps that phrase was worth the waiting and rewrangling.
  6. Let me add my congratulations! It’s wonderful to see!
  7. Such rowdy and unmannerly crows they were! I’m happy you could hear them too.
  8. Thank you! If these allowed you to share my experience a little, then I can smile.
  9. Thank you. I hope you could hear the wolves, and watch the dawn, and listen to the cicadas mourn under the hot sun.
  10. One lone wolf sings its long clear solo ringing across the field and forest soon joined in tune by the antiphonal chorus chanting the ancient midsummer psalm beneath brilliant starlight ever shining. ~ Three dark crows call to the setting moon framed in the twisted locust’s branches hurling rude insults at its fading silver light, while robins laud the coming of dawn enough to make the ridge glo
  11. I like Brion and have ways to relate yo his story. His comments about people judging his brain by his wheelchair seemed especially apt. So, he gets in on the ground floor as CJ starts his political climb? It made me grin. Thanks for this snapshot.
  12. You’re very, very welcome! I’m so happy you read Andy’s journal and followed his path to its end - more than once. You’re very kind to have commented. I have mulled over writing Reed’s story, but it hasn’t jelled. Again, many thanks.
  13. My thanks and hugs to you for reading Andy’s story. You are most kind to have taken time to react and comment. I’m glad you thought Andy’s journal was worthwhile. I can only hope that these characters will remain with you as they have with me. Again, many thanks.
  14. This is fantastic. I remember hearing an Armonica played at the Corning Museum many years ago. This is a bigger example of the instrument. How much practice and training must go into learning to be proficient on it!
  15. I remember using all three sizes displayed here.
  16. Well. The first is probably the best thing to do while waiting for AAA. The latter may present hazards if the landing is especially turbulent, though…

    Flutter

This is perfectly lovely, wonderful and true. @kbois said it exactly.
  18. Picking up this story is going to make a wonderful summer read. I’m loving this view of Thiago’s life.
  19. What a lovely way to finish off this splendid story. I particularly liked seeing Loren’s so-called parents humiliated and sent packing.

    Flying Lessons

Whoa! A wolf transformed into a dragon! What a way to learn to fly.
  21. Oh, my goodness! I’m overwhelmed by the possibilities.
  22. I like the image you set out for us: the poem as the hard shell, drawn from the experience of living. It’s kind of like the exoskeleton of a lobster, perhaps.
  23. That’s a great question. As you say, Gunnar is dead, but his past behavior indicates that the man had a mean and impulsive streak. He never wanted Stefan, and resents his presence in the world. In his sober moments, Gunnar possibly hoped to keep his son in servitude, or even try packing Stefan out to Uncle Ray in exchange for some of that extortion money he’d had to save up. Conveniently, Ray would probably make Stefan disappear and Gunnar could plausibly deny any precise knowledge of the boy’s whereabouts. As you suggested, it appears that Stefan was living on borrowed time back in Carlsberg. Thanks a ton for bringing up an interesting plot bunny.
  24. It took a lot for Loren to face his deep fears. But once he did, he seems so much happier.

    Moon Festival

Nice way to turn the tables on that grandpup who’s too big for his britches. Thanks for this lovely story.
