The dark bay horse cropped the sweet grasses that grew between the trees in the apple orchard. Now and again he’d root out an apple which had been missed by the group of very thorough pickers. Hits, views etc. measure only that. They dont measure quality, enjoyment or engagement really. I am not really into stats...here or work. In the end i need to write. I need it to satisfy my standards and the story i want to tell. I only hope there will be a few people who will enjoy it. Some people like numbers and so this will be important to them. And that's okay.

Am i right in thinking that the number of reads will be inflated by the number of chapters posted? If you are posting a high number of them, you'll have more reads. I'm assuming it does not track that JohnA started the story and has read every chapter, which would really be only one read of the story. It likely tracks a read for JohnA for each time he comes to read a new chapter. If you post one long story, or less chapters you'll have less reads, even though the story length is the same.

My uber driver this morning asked me, "How's life?" I said, "Okay, life, you know.. good and bad." He said, "Yeah, that pretty much sums it up." And it's true.. we deal with the cards we're dealt or pick up. Some good, some not. Sometimes terrible, but we get through it because the alternative isn't very desirable. We don't know what we can deal with until we have to ... then we often surprise ourselves.

Contrary to @droughtquake 's answer, the sparing use of contractions was deliberate. I think people naturally would use them, but also wanted a certain tone for the language used in this story. I'm glad you're enjoying this story, BB. Thanks very much.

As someone who is married and we see other men from time to time, i understand this. For whatever reason, if you are okay with everything as it is, it is normal for you. It took me a long time to be okay with it. But i can truly say now that i am. It is something we share, never done apart. If you and your husband are okay, if you are truly happy as things are, then more power to you, my friend. xo

Dylan Thomas said do not go gently ... i think we need to fight as long as we can, but there comes a point, when it is time to allow life's flow to take us peacefully. And we need to accept it, both for ourselves and the ones who, hopefully, sit in vigil. We were walking home from voting on a windy bright day when the first one came to me.. happened. I remembered what you often say ... it's little things and memories we, as poets, need to record. The little bits that make up life. Your words came to me as the wind picked up and made a vortex of bright leaves. oxooxox
