  1. Yesterday, we attended a book launch for a book that is being published posthumously. It was a launch but also a send-off rather than a formal funeral. He and his family were friends, and it was a good way to say farewell to him. He was 96 and believed that writing could extend your life - at ninety, he decided to write a trilogy. The book launched was the 2nd of the three, and the third is written and will be published. He was a real character, a brilliant man and very funny. He would have approved. Today is Mother's Day. To all moms, I hope it's a very nice one.
  2. Happy Friday. Here's a bit of truth ...
  3. Aw, this made me smile today. Congratulations, Wolfie. You're a wonderful author and poet but you don't need me to tell you that. Congrats, again! 💖
  4. If you miss writing, then you must write—anything. A journal, flash fiction (1000 words or less). It doesn't have to be publishable, but you need to write daily. Write your ideas, what you did yesterday, and what you hope for tomorrow, but write. Use a prompt; don't overthink it. Don't get me started on muses...anything can inspire. Go for a walk, read, read, read. If you want to be an author, you must read...be inspired by what others write, your local park, or a film you saw. Like most other authors, I have lots of opening chapters and paragraphs written that may or may not go anywhere, but they are written down. Write your ideas, keep them, and one day, when you look them over, you may have a story. Learn the art of the short story. Not every idea will be a novel, and short stories are a wonderful thing to learn to do. Challenge yourself. The secret author contest, due in July, requires a minimum word count of 3000, and the anthology is in October. There are two reasons to write something.
  5. So happy about the Donks, i forgot this...
  6. It is Wednesday and also World Donkey Day. If you can spare them a thought or send a rescue a $1, these animals deserve our praise and thanks. They've been our companions, done our work and protected our flocks for thousands of years. The poem below is by Walter de la Mare
  7. They probably are, but that's a large amount of ingredients just for pancakes, at least for me. I'd make a cake with all of those, but for breakfast, no. The blueberry lemon cake recipe you gave me has fewer ingredients. I made it yesterday, and it is super delicious. I will make it again using oranges and cranberries.
  8. We tried them with bananas but preferred sweet potatoes because they have more body and a nicer texture. It would probably be the same with pumpkin, but lots of people seemed to like bananas, too. They are good for GF people and diabetics. Oats, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin provide more fibre and complex carbohydrates, while cottage cheese provides more protein. And they are good for skinny boys and girls like me who want a pancake fix! LOL
  9. You can use squash, I'd suggest butternut or pumpkin or banana instead.
  10. I made a double batch of these for dinner. The first batch is heading to the freezer. The rest we ate, along with some nice Olymel sausage that doesn't have that usual pork sausage flavour, which I don't like. We had real maple syrup. https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/katie-lee/quick-oats-sweet-potato-pancakes-2718081 My pancake craving has ended...for now!!!
  11. That made me shudder... probably why it works. This isn't that exciting but i've found that telling people helps. In my case it's usually Michael or Dan as they are closest to me. i've been able to find my way out of the rabbit hole. Also, i'm sort of (finally) learning that some subjects i shouldn't talk about. If i can feel something starting, i'll excuse myself from the conversation. That works too.
  12. i do as well, or worry about things or make up scenarios that are never right. So, how do we stop these less than helpful processes? Or at least snap ourselves out of them?
  13. Sounds like Groundhog day. Maybe we all need to do a little something to break the habit.
  14. Happy Monday. It may be only me, but we have the same weekly days. Like over and over again, it's very repetitive or seems like it is to me. I hope that you all have a great week!
  15. Crummy weather! But, mmmm dinner. Enjoy!!
  16. Stress can steal the joy from life. Those of us who can enjoy a simple life and don't have to worry about these things very much, are very lucky as you say. Finding beauty in the small things and being grateful makes us more mindful. Thank you for this reminder. Have a lovely day.
  17. Happy Saturday ... One is not enough Waiting on set ... Have a good and fun/busy/relaxing day ...
  18. Happy Friday, to those who celebrate. Also.... Looks like it's a good thing i reminded everyone... Have a good Friday!
  19. Really? That's really weird. Sorry, you're all unwell. Hope you feel better soon.
  20. Here's today's ... sadly i have a burning desire only to do nothing... Lol Happy Thursday!
  21. haha, you can have words with them..lol Not sure what good it would do.
  22. What if the next guests arrive to move into that space? That's not okay, you should inquire as to whether that's an option for you, not just assume you can stay longer.
