  7. No matter what type of story you're writing, be it a high school drama or a murder mystery, there will almost always be two or more characters disagreeing with each other. It's inevitable because to have an interesting story you need conflict and most of the time conflict (between two characters) can lead to something akin to a fight. And by that I don't mean two mortal enemies engaged in hand-to-hand combat or witches hurling fireballs at each other. Don't get me wrong, those are just as much fun to write and read about but for this thread I'd like to narrow it down to verbal fights scenes. I'm currently working on them in my latest story and I like to pay as much attention to the details, the mood, as I would when writing lighter scenes. What I hope to improve is the way I build up the tension and increase the intensity of the emotions to express just how--in lack of a better term--pissed off the characters are at each other. I've read somewhere that it's effective to have characters speak in short sentences when upset and longer when deep in thought. And sometimes dialogue alone isn't enough. Actions help the reader sense what the character is feeling as opposed to what the character says they're feeling. So what are your techniques? How do you approach verbal combat? And lastly, do you enjoy writing about characters who lash at each other with words?
  8. See You Again - Miley Cyrus I don't consider myself a Hannah Montana fan but wow, I cannot get this song out of my head! I don't know if it's the beat or 'cause I relate to the lyrics or both. Lol.
  9. Aww, you guys! I'm sure the objects didn't mind... Anyways, my gay anthem would have to be "Nobody's Fool" by Avril Lavigne. I don't know if anyone's heard of it but I find the lyrics very uplifting especially when I'm down. It's about being yourself and not letting anyone change you. "You don't know You think you know me like yourself But I fear That you're only telling me what I wanna hear But do you give a damn Understand That I can't not be what I am"
  10. Hmm...you mean other than this site? Well, I haven't been exposed to too many gay things growing up. There's Queer as Folk, T.R. Knight and yes, the guy who plays Justin Taylor is hot. (squeals)
  11. Our Song - Taylor Swift

  16. Okay, I know this may seem like an odd topic but I was watching TV earlier today and saw the trailers of two different movies, BOTH with characters peeing in the sink! First is What Happens in Vegas with Ashton Kutcher in his bathrobe standing over the kitchen sink, peeing, while Cameron Diaz's character looks on in shock. Lol. The second one, Baby Mama, which I'm really looking forward to seeing, is with Tina Fey and some blonde chick sitting on the bathroom sink 'cause the toilet was blocked by some baby-proof type thing (if such a word even exists). Hehe. I was like, "Whoa!" Comedies, so it was no surprise but seriously, is that some kind of new trend? And has anyone ever done that in real life? I personally haven't but would be interested in finding out more about this...ahem...phenomenon.
  17. Oh wow, I never thought I'd come across this when I saw the title of this thread. Now I'm thinking...eww!
  18. "Lips of an Angel" - Hinder
  19. I've tried that method too. At the beginning it didn't seem so bad but with my constant need to edit every little thing (typos, continuity errors, etc.) it got exhausting. But to each their own I guess. What works for one writer may not work for the other. And that's why I've been holding back for a while, working on each chapter and not posting unless I'm sure I'm ready to let them go. It's like having a baby. You nourish it, you raise it and when the time's right you set it free. Of course, there are also times when you just want to show it to the world already. Gosh, I'm only 18 and already I'm thinking babies.
  20. LOL. As for me, I take a shower 1-2 times a day depending on whether I'm going out or how hot it is. I too cannot stand the feeling of my shirt clinging to my body due to sweat. I use AP/Deo and Shea Butter at night. Really good for your skin.
  21. Thanks, guys. Your thoughts have been very helpful and I have come to a conclusion that it is perhaps better to let my inspiration take me away, not too far, but just enough to satisfy the little voice in my head that keeps pushing me to write. LOL. I'm glad it's there though. Yes, I definitely agree with this Tiff. A good way to keep track of the details that a writer must never forget. Seriously BeastKid, six pieces of fiction? It takes a lot to juggle all that. For now, though, I think I'll stick to two. Story A will be my main novel-length work (which I intend on posting as soon as I have enough chapters done) and Story B can act as my muse's personal playground. Of course, if it turns out to be as good as I'd like it to be then I will be posting that as well. Again, thank you all, I really appreciate it and hope you have a wonderful day. Happy writing! -Boy in Doubt
  22. "Bubbly" - Colbie Caliet
  23. Ooh, I've got one. Brillo Pads - That thing used for doing the dishes and people call it by it's brand name. Also, do you guys remember the early 2000s when Google was still unknown by many and some people would think of it as a dirty word? Hehe. "He Googled him" "He Googled her", etc.
  24. Okay, I originally wanted to start a similar thread but seeing as one already exists I thought I'd resurrect it (3 years, wow, that's a long time). I've read the previous posts but would still be interested to hear from anyone with a different opinion. Perhaps, describing the consequences of multitasking. Anyway, here's my dilemma: I've recently started writing again after a really, really long and painful break. Inspiration struck, felt it rushing through my veins and thus Story A was born. Yay! But then with 2 and 1/2 chapters done, my muse suddenly decides to direct my attention towards a whole new story I hadn't even intended on posting. Let's call this Story B, which is quite different from Story A in terms of plot, genre, etc. I do plan on posting both of these--someday. Wish I could say sooner though. I guess the question is, would it be a good idea for an amateur writer such as myself to work on two different pieces at once? I'm afraid I might abandon the other if I pursue this new idea. Thanks -Boy in Doubt
  25. "Whatever it Takes" - Lifehouse
