  1. I'm happy that Max enjoys his schoolwork, though I am a little concerned; his partner for science class this year is someone who attempted to bully Max in the past. I hope the other kid is at least treating Max with civility so they can get good marks, but Max knows to report to us if there's anything amiss. Yeah, Max loves choosing recipes and helping me make them. He's generally not a picky eater, but he doesn't like food that's overly sugary, greasy, or fattening. He also doesn't like shrimp, peanut butter, or most breakfast cereals.
  2. We're doing good, thanks. I managed to negotiate some better hours at work. Max is happy to return to school; he missed his friends, and he said that he's looking forward to some of the science experiments they'll be doing in class this year. Also, we're having another Max request for dinner tonight: beef and pepper stir-fry.
  3. Simon, from "Young Royals"?
  4. @raven1 Hey again, Terry! How are you and Aod?
  5. Hey, Terry! Sorry I missed you.
  6. Feel better soon, buddy.
  7. Your post on the previous page says otherwise.
  8. Hey, Terry!
  9. I bought my first umbrella at 19 years old, so I wouldn't get soaked on my way to work. I remember feeling so proud of myself, and the dark blue galaxy of stars on the canopy looked nice, so I thought. A week after Max came to live with us, I put that umbrella away and bought a larger one, which could fit three people under the canopy. Max uses the older one for himself, (which is really better-suited for kids, anyway) and the newer umbrella is for the family when we go out as a group. I guess, buying that bigger umbrella shows how I was already committed to having a family, even before we knew Max would be with us permanently.
  10. Halloween may have been invented by the Celts, but I've heard the "American" version is gaining popularity overseas.
  11. Congratulations, Comsie!
  12. That, we are. Max is already plotting about Halloween costumes, though it's still six weeks away. He's got his priorities sorted.
  13. @raven1 Hey, Terry!
  14. Yup! And they were delicious! It was a lot of work, but totally worth it.
  15. No. The burgers I made didn't have that "middle bun". A Big Mac has American pasteurized cheese, mine had Wisconsin Cheddar. The onion-y bits on a Big Mac are dehydrated onion flakes, reconstituted in water; the onions I used were freshly chopped and lightly sauteed. The pickles, buns, and sauce were homemade, whereas McD's stuff comes from who-knows-where. I even went to a local market and told them what cuts of beef I wanted for the ground beef. Then I watched as they fed the meat into a grinder.
  16. Yeah, neither did I, until I went to a party where some burgers were served with the sauce already added. I was surprised because it tasted different than what I knew. Turns out, I just don't like store-bought Thousand Island. I got the recipe from the host, and now I'm a convert.
  17. You have that backwards, sweetie. We were the innocent ones, and you corrupted us!
  18. Today is National Cheeseburger Day, so I made double smash-burgers with grilled onions, cheddar cheese, homemade pickles and Thousand Island sauce.
  19. The indiscriminate nuking was almost preferable to the whining.
  20. Better wash that zucchini before frying it...
  21. @Comicality Just released yesterday! When did Mason get so tall?
  22. Fried zucchini slices with homemade ranch dip is delicious.
  23. What about potatoes? Or zucchini?
