"Looks like the Christmas Bandits have been at it again," Kippy Lawson said, giving a nod towards the TV screen. The big flat panel had the sound muted, but the picture showed a busy scene outside a large brick building, with police cars present, and a reporter holding a microphone talking to someone in the parking lot. Below the scene, a banner across the bottom of the picture told the story: Christmas Bandits Strike Again. "Even Christmas Bandits gotta eat," Charlie Boone replied absently

The holiday season is upon them, and Charlie Boone and his friends have been wondering how to spend the time together. Their new business has been allowing them to explore their developing paranormal talents, and giving them a freedom of action they never had before now. So when news comes along that catches Charlie’s interest, and sends the chill of a premonition up his spine, they’re off again on a new adventure, just in time for Christmas!

Some good ideas there, but some of the rules of the story may tend to prevent me using some of them. But there is some food for thought, and thank you! The Charlie Boone series did not start out as sci-fi or fantasy. It sort of found its way to fantasy starting in the second tale, but I think it was the 6th story (Is That A Rocket in Your Pocket, Charlie Boone?) where it hit the science fiction world directly on. So if you're expecting sci-fi, a little patience is required to get there. 🙂

A strange sort-of-fantasy tale that leaves you wondering. You have to start at the beginning of this series of ten little intertwined tales, but it is a fun read and the ending isn't what you think. Or, is it?

Interesting ending. So Ben was in a coma...or was he? Which was the dream, and which was the reality? I've actually read of people awaking from comas and knowing things that happened while they were 'out', when there was no way they possibly could. Makes you wonder where they were while they were gone! A nice ending to a fanciful set of tales!

The sequel to Sidewinder (and do read that first!), and a worthy follow-up, indeed. This tale is obviously the work of someone that loves the genre and knows it well. The characters and situations ring true, and they are characters and situations you can get next to, enjoy, and fall in love with. The old west as it is seldom told, as it needs to be told, the missing chapter of that history with men loving men, and thank you very much!

Well, it's done. A very satisfying wind up to a very enjoyable story. And not just this tale - the first one was just as much a compulsive read. So now we have two tales with these characters, and everyone knows that trilogies are 'in' now. So you should take your cue from that! It was pleasing to see how readily Mitch embraced his new lease on life. No time wasted worrying about the rightness of going back to Will - his heart already knew. And Will never had the slightest doubt it was right, either. Nothing makes the heart more sure than time alone to think about it. I like the idea that these two have many years left to spend together. And Boone and Coy to share that time together! Thanks for another wonderful read, Gary! -
My first tale by this author, and a compulsive read. A slightly different take on the wolf transformation story, and a cool fantasy that is wonderfully attached to real life. Well worth the time for anyone with a fantasy bent who likes their characters well-drawn and utterly realistic beneath the fur!

I see you noticed the pattern of the two guys finding something special together. It runs through a lot of my stories (um, all of them, really), and is a memento from my own teen years. I also have a very accepting, very supportive family, and always have. I know it's not the norm for many, but I was lucky enough for it to be the norm for me. As always, writers should write what they know about, right?

People enter and exit our lives constantly when we're young (and often when we're older, too!), and we seem to mostly adapt to it. There will always be those that leave such an impression upon us that we carry them with us for the rest of our lives. I guess that's just the way it has to be. Memory is a wonderful thing. The not-forgetting of special people, and the moments we have spent with them, is one of the wonders of being human. Of all the moments in our lives, it is the ones spent with others that leave the deepest impressions.

I somehow missed this comment when posted, and I'm sorry I did. I knew someone on the spectrum when I was younger, and he was the model for Rafie. Functioning varies considerably between individuals, as you well know. But the heart is the same, no matter the interface, and being taken with someone, and feeling for someone, spans all definitions of the state we call human.

Thanks! We were definitely the boys of summer back then. The school summer break seemed to last forever. Every day was unique and new. Time really wasn't something we considered, and the woods seemed eternal. I guess when you're young, you live day-to-day. The future is not something you think about that much, nor worry about. The day belongs to you. And to the one you spend it with! Um...banana? That would be telling!

Sounds like the King is looking for trouble. He may be making it for himself. Nice to have the bakery about to be open. One or two more chapters? But there will be a continuation or sequel? This story doesn't feel done!

I find it pretty much in keeping with times past that four gay guys would each own a parcel of land next to the others, and make it seem like they each lived on and worked their own land, all the while with two of them living together on one parcel, and the other two of them living together on another. Not that there's anything wrong with that! Living close to friends and lovers is an idyllic existence. But I guess having friends and lovers, first, is what makes the story special. And this story is special. Gary, you say you're close to the finish of this one, but there are plenty of threads left untied that could provide material for another Larkspur tale. I mean, everyone does trilogies these days, you know? Um, yeah, this is a hint. 😊

Oops. I think I got ahead of myself here. I have to go and look, but I think I went with the link in my notifications and skipped a few chapters. Anyway...um, difficult place to end this chapter! But I like a challenge! I need to see where I am, and get back on track.I probably will catch up some now, as I have some time off for the Thanksgiving holiday here. Sigh. Let me go see what I did.
