From what I know of the UK versions, people get a standard offering which can be tweaked if necessary (baby, young children etc). Is there a black market? All I can say is nothing that's made it to the news.

Few people of younger generations would be prepared to live as he does. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, the ends don't meet. He's just starting to get a sense of what the necessities of life are to someone Andy's age or younger.

There are curries, and proper curries. It takes time to build up the array of spices and seasonings you need, but a homemade curry can fill the house with amazing scents.

In our national conversation, that's very much in dispute. Generation Rent feels (with some justification) that older people, particularly those who have retired, have been favoured disproportionately. There's a perception of vote buying by both main political parties. Even I've felt jealous when several years of no or miniscule pay increases are set against the government's annual guaranteed state pension hikes. I suspect there will a rebalancing a some point.

Like @dughlas, your comments make me think about the story. The relationship between these two grows so organically, I rarely give it structured thought. When you hear people not unlike Eric talking about this, it is a cruel constraint on their lives, robbing them of meaning and human contact.

Yes, but very unlikely to happen - in the UK at least. The curriculum has already been purged in favour of those subjects need for exams or those which are 'useful'. Just think of isolated (in all senses) he was at the very start of this tale. He has many connections (real or potential) to explore.

Which is why those walking with the guy were Muslim or South Asian queer individuals. To emphasise that there are some brave souls from that background who are out and proud. Though fundamentalist Christians are also part of the mix.

Relevance or being noteworthy would be more important, I think. I'm not sure the kind of rural, often free-thinking queer individuals would be remotely impressed if Lord... or Sir... rolled up, just because someone asked them.

My guess is anything that would evolve would be a grassroots thing. The Birmingham idea was not to 'run' things themselves but to facilitate, provide accommodation for other groups run by individuals. In a UK charity view, a 'patron' is someone who lends their name to an organisation and who might be involved in a publicity sense, but otherwise not. They might contribute like any other individual would.

'Hope' being the operative word. There's certainly more chance at a grassroots Pride; not one concerned with paying for big name artists and pleasing high-value sponsors.
