South Africa is unfortunately a beacon in an otherwise extremely LGBTQ-hostile continent. Yes, there has been some movement recently which is to be welcomed, but there is an enormous amount to be done. As I commented earlier, I would suggest reaching out to any LGBTQ organisation in your area. A problem shared?

Thank you - you are very kind to say so. Never Too Late is a mirror of my writing development: the first ever chapter appeared about a month or two after I started writing. The conclusion of the second book was written only a week or so ago.

    Expectations

I hope you continue with Eric's story - then you'll find out. There are some 33 chapters to follow...

    Friends In Need

I hope you're OK now. Yes, when something like that happens, it temporarily restores confidence in human nature.

    Happenings

I'm sorry to read this. Even in the UK, older queer individuals who move out of their own homes into communal accommodation might have to act like you. Is there no LGBTQ outreach organisation you could contact in your city?

    Why not?

    Old and New

Missed this somehow. No, but the earlier chapter where Andy goes round listing the major faults gives you the idea. I imagine Adam would present the landlord with pretty much the same list.

    Distractions

Yeah, I got their email updates as well. There's also Pink News www.pinknews.co.uk (which is the one I imagine Eric reading). The Advocate (quite heavily American) www.advocate.com. The BBC now has a dedicated LGBTQ correspondent.

While drought has a point, I would like to reiterate that I value your interactions in whatever form they take. Should you want to try your hand at comments or a review, there are helpful guidelines available on this page and the story's front page.

    It is my pleasure.

Here in the UK, the push is for more and more things to be done online. If you're not computer literate, then you risk joining the many people for whom computers are still alien territory. And it's not just older people.

    Connected

I seem to remember another reader commenting that it made them look at commonplace things with a new eye.

    Just Desserts

It just shows the fascinating divergence in the different species of English. The US version is probably closer to the original meaning as in pease pudding.

Because some of us enjoy it? Actually, the ending was one of the few things I'd settled on when I started this volume. So, long-planned torture.

There is little more pleasing to an author than saying they've created a character you love. I know I've said it many times, but Eric is very close to my heart. To me, he is almost real.

I'm taking a short break from writing both serials. I have ideas for Eric but I like to let them marinate. I have one of my usual short antho entries to do, together with whatever flash pieces might take my fancy. I expect to resume writing Eric early autumn, with Soul Music being later. That story will be the first to resume though as I only keep a few chapters in reserve.

Thank you for your praise - I appreciate it a lot. Yes, there's going to be a wait for the concluding volume. As of now, I have yet to write a single word of the third book; in fact, this chapter was only written a few days ago. Unlike my other serial, Soul Music, I want the majority of the book's chapters to be completed before I resume posting. Updates will be posted in the story's discussion thread.

Come on - I have to give you all some reason to return. It's difficult to break the habit of a lifetime. He has made an enormous number of changes over the past 7/8 months. Think of how he was at the start of the first book.
  20. On the Sunday afternoon, Eric sat at his computer table, one finger clearing the crumbs which remained on his sandwich plate. He puzzled over an email which arrived only a few minutes before. Although the information said it came from Andy, all it contained was an internet link. Several moments spent staring at the link didn't make things any clearer, so he went back to the email header: 'Andy has shared some photos with you'. Deciding the email's contents were probably safe – he'd read numerous

    Rapprochement

I deliberately left it vague. Late 60s? In some ways, he'll come across older than that. I didn't realise how unusual Eric is until I started posting this story. It has connected with many people. I'm about to conclude the second book of Eric's story, Never Too Late to Explore. I welcome any comments.
  22. @Talo Segura I spotted this and realised I couldn't remember how I got mine to show. A quick look around revealed the solution: Go to your user name and click on 'Account settings'. You should then see this screen (or similar). Click on 'Stories'. Toggle the buttons to suit your requirements.

Yes, but what? Someone in that situation can only be helped if they wish it to happen. From what we've seen so far, Felicity hasn't got there yet.

    Up For Discussion

From what I know of the UK versions, people get a standard offering which can be tweaked if necessary (baby, young children etc). Is there a black market? All I can say is nothing that's made it to the news.

    Up For Discussion

Few people of younger generations would be prepared to live as he does. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, the ends don't meet. He's just starting to get a sense of what the necessities of life are to someone Andy's age or younger.
