  1. That's so funny. One of my readers and I refer to Jesse as Mr. Yummy! I find a soft Welsh lilt very sexy.
  2. Using reference guides isn't nerdy, it's being a competent writer. Gay Authors has a terrific link for terrific reference links: http://writers.gayauthors.org/author-resources.php. Additionally, here are some off-beat ones that come in very handy: http://www.urbandictionary.com/ - dedicated to current slang. http://www.noslang.com/dictionary.php - Internet slang dictionary http://www.effingpot.com/ - an American's guide to "Speaking British". http://www.bored.com/findquotes/cate_757_Variety.html - famous quotes. And although it's been discussed elsewhere, here's a respected author/editor's thoughts about writing gay fiction. http://www.asstr.org/nifty/information/tip...ay-fiction.html - Pecman's tips
  3. Hi TLWT, Suggest you peruse the Writer's Corner and check out past topics. I recall interesting discussions from a couple years back on several subjects that would be helpful. To amplify Graeme's thoughts: each of the four readers/editors who assist me bring different talents to the table. Drew Hunt, an accomplished author who lives in the U.K. (he's sight-challenged, BTW, and uses an audible device on his computer to write/communicate), does a little grammar tweaking and gives me an overall reaction about the content. Brad, in Colorado, I affectionately call "the comma queen". He is a retired TV news producer and very precise about punctuation, proper tense and dangling whatevers. Trab, in Vancouver Island, is an editor's editor. He holds nothing back if the paragraph needs the words to be shifted around, etc. My Austin, Texas friend, Rock, drills in for the final manacure. It's maddening, after this process, that a few errors will still crop up...but they do. I realize this must read very "anal retentive" but it works for me. My background - education and profession - was business. Before I discovered the joy of creative writing in this genre, my experience was primarily developing manuals, procedural guides, etc. But, like my work, I want what I write to represent the best I'm capable of creating. Jack
  4. I agree that Steve hasn't figured out his orientation yet. Maybe Wilde will be the "wildone". And, please...ease up on the cliffhangers. Especially those where the character is literally hanging off a cliff.
  5. Jan's comments are 'spot on'. I have a team to help eliminate the typos, improve phraseology, grammar, etc. By the time a chapter is posted, it has been read, proofed and edited by four talented individuals - each has his own specific talents. I review the suggestions and modify the text where appropriate at each milestone.
  6. I also didn't see this post until today. I echo Graeme's thoughts. Jack
  7. And the famous line uttered by Richard Nixon, "Sock it to...ME ?"
  8. Nothing like a little rear-end political kissing. Reminds me of a few of the presidential hopefuls. Cray is a tough cookie on the inside and decided to stand up to the judge as he saw what was happening. He had some great parenting from his real father in the early, formative years - enough of a solid foundation to absorb the rotten experiences and not be "damaged goods" before he bolted from home. He also read the situation with his friends and felt that he would gain support from some of the guys if he cleared the air and came out. However, he was respectful of Michael's decision not to do the same...right now. Thanks, TLWT , for pointing out the posting boo-boo. Trusty Joe has fixed it and I urge those who may not have gone all the way to the bottom of the chapter, do so. Fun little postscript. Jack
  9. I'm all for looooooooong birthdays! Have a happy one. Jack
  10. Hi TLWT, I'm always delighted to have more readers responding on this forum. I am puzzled, however, because I can't figure out to what double-posting you're referring? I like to fix whatever is troubling but I don't understand to comment.
  11. After a delightful Maker's Mark Manhattan, I shared a bottle of Napa California Pinot Noir with friends. It worked well with my grilled T-bone pork chop. We dined at Palm Springs' coolest, hip (and expensive) restaurant. Darn it! No AARP discounts. Thanks to all for your greetings. Allow me to offer New Year's good wishes to you in return. I solved a new dilemma when I was informed - yesterday - that a New Year's Eve party I'm attending is black tie dress. "Yikes," I said to myself as I dug through the back of the closet, "I wonder if the damned thing still fits?" It had been several years since I last wore it. I struggled to get the waist clasp to close and decided this was not going to work. Bottom line: thank God the alterations lady's shop was open. She'll have to pants appropriately let out for me by tomorrow afternoon. Whew! Jack
  12. With the recent death of Dan Fogelberg due to prostate cancer, I wanted to share this public service announcement that promotes the need for check ups...especially men 50 years of age and older. . It's worth the 2:04 minutes of your time, whatever your age. Younger GA'ers have dads and uncles who need to be proded (pun intentional) to have PSA and digital exams on an annual basis. Jack
  13. Thanks, everyone, for your wishes and greetings. Just got back from a marv birthday dinner and am finishing the big day with this note. The "2" relates to the number of years I've been a Hosted Author at GA. Hope you continue to enjoy the stories and poke around my forum postings! Jack P.S. Yes, it's a bitch celebrating a birthday the day after you-know-what.
  14. And don't forget Duncan Ryder's Everybody's Wounded, found in the eFiction area, at the end of Chapter 14. This story, BTW, is one of the best I've read. Jack
  15. Bi-what? Oh, 2000 posts. And also thanks for your technical know-how to post my stories and have the JS home page looking good! Jack
  16. Oh, oh. Something tells me we won't be seeing much tequila in the story anymore.
  17. Merry Christmas It's early Christmas morning in the desert - Santa came earlier (how he do dat?) - and I'm listening the Classic FM's beautiful music. Hope y'all have been enjoying a terrific holiday season. It began with Chanukah, we'll wish in the New Year in a few days and end with the 12 Days of Christmas on January 5. It's been fun interacting with the members at GA! Here's to a literary, humorous and creative 2008! Jack
  18. Juno. I was totally charmed by this film. The plot line focuses on a rather unusual premise concerning a 16 year-old girl who seduces her high school best boy friend (who is a delightful, semi-clueless nerd character and also 16) and become pregnant as a result. The dialogue - which quite honestly could only come from a talented writer - is priceless and hilarious. The actress who is the lead, Ellen Page, has been nominated for best actress. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 94% rating on the Tomatometer". This movie will make you smile for a long time. I also flipped over Sweeney Todd! Don't take the kiddies. Jack
  19. Now that's an L.A. birthday! Happy 18th. Where and what is it? Jack
  20. Although BeastKid is the official greeter, allow me to welcome you. There are a hugh variety of topics discussed in this forum and also the teen forum. Both will be fun for you. I also suggest that you find a story that interests you and participate in the author's discussion forum. And if you land in CJ-World, you'll have 85 different discussions going on at once! DomLuka's readers are a sub-culture all their own. You'll enjoy Dom's tales. Oh, if you're a good forum participant, you'll also get a Australian birthday greeting from Graeme. Have a great time. Jack
  21. Goodness, that cracks me up. WHAT IMAGINATION! Perhaps the biological dad will show up in Volume III...but not now. Who knows what might happen? Is Cray's dad hetero? But back to this current story. We've got to get Cray into Drew and Bob's foster care first. Jack
  22. Fair enough. And a good story, too. Steve was my hero...even his little turd of a brother came through in the end.
  23. I group Mrs. Spears with Mrs. Lohan and Mrs. Hilton. They seem to seek out publicity and career opportunities through their off-spring's fame/notoriety. They became public property when they took that posture. The media and blogs can be a bitch when you're famous or try to be. Most mothers don't do this. When did you last read about Josh Groban's mom? Or Matt Damon's mom (except when he brought her to the Oscar Awards)? Ellen Degeneres's mom appears occasionally in some humor-inspired bit. So did David Letterman's mom when she was younger. What do you ever read about the mother of Christina Aguilera (probably the most talented singer of her generation)? I do remember reading about Celine's mom in a background article several years ago and never felt Celine's romance/marriage was a big deal. In that my mom never sought fame, I didn't appreciate comments being so personal. This is the first Christmas I am observing the holiday without her.
  24. They are from Mississippi. In that case, there is no problem if they were diddling under a willow tree down South (more romantic than a Motel 6 with a six-pack of Bud and chicken wings): Any person seventeen (17) years of age or older has sexual intercourse with a child who: (i) Is at least fourteen (14) but under sixteen (16) years of age I agree with Connor concerning the consent issue for two people who are both 16 or above - and one is 2 or 3 years older. And consenting minors - in a variety of couplings - is quite the norm. What is utterly unacceptable is the irresponsibility of either or both not to use contraception. Neither are equiped to address parenthood. Here's how the press described the expectant father (who is a cutie): He's a 19-year-old pipe layer; a deer-hunting, dirt-bike-riding former high school class president who still lives in his tiny Mississippi hometown. This is the same hometown that produced that other guy - another cutie - who married Britany for 56 hours in Vegas. Now there you go...poon tang and it was legal. It is amusing to read that Mrs. Spears was in the process of developing a book about parenting. I understand that project has been shelved. Oh, I smell a story in this...with variations. Please, God, tell me that they didn't produce a video. Jack
  25. I'm not going to make much comment about the trashiness of the Spears sisters except they're part of a national embarrassment. My question is this: The younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears - age 16, is pregnant and the man (irresponsible twerp) involved is her boyfriend - age 19. In California, she is a minor but they are only three years apart: http://www.ageofconsent.com/california.htm. Still, he is an adult and she is a minor, three years younger. None of the gossip mongers have mentioned the guy's liability in committing "unlawful sexual intercourse". Will this guy get nailed for the law violation? Or is this just something where you turn your back and think, 'Oh, well.'
