Hey, come on. My first 20 years were spent in Des Moines... ...and just returned from a high school reunion (held in Bonita Springs, Fl). I saw an unusual thing last night. The wildfire smoke is now drifting east and arrived in the Palm Springs area yesterday afternoon. Last night, the moon was a bright orange. The only thing missing was a silhouette of a witch on a broom. BTW, the Palm Springs population (44,000) is now approximately 42% GBLT. As a sidebar, we continually have earthquake activity. Aircraft support is ineffective. Unfortunately, these conditions may continue for another 24 hours. Over 600 firefighters are involved.

This mayhem in the LA/San Diego area is mind boggling. As of 9:00 a.m. PDT time, over 600 homes have been destroyed and 300,000 people have been evacuated. If any bonifide GA members are in need of a temporary shelter in Palm Springs during this disaster, I have a guest room. Jack

A serious and more retrospective CJ. I must admit I didn't pick up on the Senator being in the closet until I read Graeme's comments. I originally thought it was more a case of the Senator being a hyper-workaholic - toiling for the right wing - who grossly negected his family(ies). The man made peace with himself in the end. That's funny! Probably closeted in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. I've been "out" in a conservative, subtle form for quite a while. But I am marching in my first Gay Pride Parade next month. Because of the Palm Springs summer heat, Gay Pride is always the first weekend in November. I'll be with a contingent supporting one of the city council candidates. The election is the following Tuesday. We will probably elect a new mayor and at least one more city council member who fly rainbow colors. Jack

It features the pre-Stonewall generation who grew up using defensive devices to hide their sexuality from an unaccepting society. Times are changing but to what degree if you don't live in a community with a significant LGBT population? Jack
