We can add custom ones. Just need an artist with time. I can't quite see adding this one. I'm not much of a singer, and I'm pretty sure she'd find a way to make me sing soprano if ever such a thing did appear.

This is a complicated one. If you visit the genre and tag link in the Stories section, is lists tags in categories. This is just for visual assistance to members. A genre is a category you can group things by. A tag, in this software, is just a descriptive item. And although we group them visibly for filtering or searching, they aren't grouped like categories are. That is, I can't make an author add a tag of type setting. This current version of the software also has a lot of limits with out tags are used. Creating too many of them dilutes them to a point of uselessness. We are making changes in the new software with how the story tags work and there will be the ability to add more, but not nearly enough to be able to set a location like that. And as someone mentioned above we have plenty of stories that take place all over the place. In the 23 years since I've opened Gay Authors, I've not had a single person ask for what you did on searching for stories that way In my visits to the many story sites and stores out there, I've never noticed a site having that feature either. So, I would hazard to guess that the desire is fairly niche. In the telemetry data for the site, I don't recall seeing location names pop up much either. Though they are probably searching for those gay demons for some reason or another.
-
That's deliberate, actually. The description is meant to be a brief book blurb or back of cover quick run. Some people try to write their whole story in the description so we stop that. If you are hitting the limit then keep in mind the current limit is double what it used to be. We have no plans to expand. I will plug AI at this point. Write what you to say in the description and then shove it one of those many AI tools and ask it to give you a pithy book blurb. Voila - free marketing tool to spice up you've written.
-
Yup, just ignore it like you have been. Possibly, but it depends on your browser. I'd recommend just logging in and staying that way. Saves tons of trouble especially for folks with your described tech challenges.
-
It should work fine here, depending on browser. I confirmed it works fine in Edge on windows. And Edge on iPad.
-
Just use a collection as your to be read pile. It shows all that stuff. Here is a public Collection I've shared. You can make public and private ones: How to create a collection: How to add a story to a collection:
-
Same link. "Contrast Mode" on the chapter. It remembers the setting.
-
Your browser has several options for that. "Recently Closed" for tabs or under History. You can also set your browser to open on the last thing you closed. It's not a site thing. How you do it depends on what browser you use.
-
Make sure you have a current working email address and you should be fine.

The chapter text controls should address font size issues. if a chapter's text isn't responding for some reason, let the staff know with posting the Help forum and link to the story in question. We can look into this. Signature Authors are a group of authors who post first to Gay Authors.

We are limited to the InvisionCommunity framework and underlying software. anything beyond that is custom programming work which then has to be maintained but still function in the framework. As I'm typing this, the editor fills my whole browser, so I'm not sure what you mean or what the need is. writing gets the full browser for pretty much everything. I'm not really following you on what you mean by lists and items. Chapter Comments are on the bottom of chapters. If you follow a story, you'll get notifications on comments and can jump straight to them easily. You can also customize your activity feed to show you comments on all stories you follow. Author pages or topics exist for authors that set them up. if you click on the author's name, you get their list of stories. If they have a discussion area set up, it shows under their bio. @Headstall has a club set up, so you get the link to join his club.

There is a link at the bottom of every chapter that brings you back to Stories, though it is at the bottom of the comments. Authors choose how they name chapters. If you wish assistance on remembering what you read... turn on Reading History! It'll show you right on the stories where you left off. (see next to Title): All chapters already have a publishing date on them: Authors are limited on the number of tags they can add to a story. a Max of 6 or so I think

This is still in development, but the biggest change is the removal of the Tabbed interface in Adding a new Story. You'll add the title, authors, editors, etc, description and then be placed into the table of contents page. Then we'll basically follow a similar format like we do now for adding chapter 1. You'll get banners for things you'll need to do before you can publish the story. The current ones, but we'll add tags, genres, notes, etc.

Romance is the second most read genre for 2025. Topped only by Drama in a quick look. I'll run the numbers very early in 2026 for the final tally and it'll be part of a blog.
-
We'll be functionally the same. The biggest difference will be the menu moving from the top to the left and noticeably faster loading.
-
I will be promoting it more when we go to the new software update. To be honest, the biggest advantage is keeping the site open. If we didn't have our premium members, the site would close. To sound a bit like PBS when I was growing up... Gay Authors stays open because of members like you.

spot on! what this basically means is that they elimanted most of the javascript, which causes things to be slower. You can easily simulate on your desktop how the mobile will look, even right now on the site. Just shrink your browser window so it is 3 or 4 inches wide on your desktop. The site will adapt and switch to mobile view. The modern implementation of this process eliminates the need for the slow and clunky (in comparison) javascript.

@Cia tells me the sub genre is pretty hot the last few months in eBooks. I would assume Demon Slayer and BG are both filling that same itch? More correlation than causation. I think.

M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S ! ! ! As we wrap up 2025, I wanted to make a post looking ahead to 2026. I'll cover the plans as we know them right now, and at the end, I'll ask for some engagement from you, our members. Site Software Update The largest project for 2025 will be our plan to upgrade to the newest version of the Invision Community, the forum software. This is the largest software change in ten years and is a complete modernization of the software code. It has been rewritten from the ground up to be Mobile first. Since more than half of our traffic is from mobile devices, this should be good news to everyone. Our programmer has been working since October on the Stories software update that will bring our custom software into the most recent software era. We are running the forum software on our test server, so here is a quick sneak peak: They also have a dark mode that you can even set to auto if your operating system switches modes based on time: The most notable change for us is that we plan to use a left-side menu. By putting everything into the menu, it'll be much easier to access from mobile devices. The breakdown of that menu will change before we launch. We will show more as we get closer. My hope is to launch in Q1 2026. We also plan to make things a big more visual, as you can see by the way the forums are broken down. Blogs We plan to continue our current features in 2026. Word of the Day, Genre Deep Dives, Weekly Wrap-ups, CSRs (Can't Stop Reading) Features, Prompts, Anthology/Writing Posts, etc. All these things require volunteers and participation. A special shout out to @Bill W for his help in providing many of the words used for Words of the Day this year. Thank you! Writing Events In 2026, we will offer our usual lineup of writing events, including the poetry anthology, secret author contest, annual anthology, and prompt team event. Stay tuned for upcoming announcements regarding themes and guidelines! Looking ahead 2026 Writing Events Poetry Anthology - April Secret Author Contest - summer Annual Anthology - October Prompt Team Event - December In 2027, we will start an every-three-year event called "Gone, But Not Forgotten", dedicated to our friends who are no longer with us. You can find more details on our upcoming writing events in this post: Feedback Feedback comes in many forms. Sometimes the feedback is just silently moving on. Sometimes it is moving on dramatically. As I have mentioned innumerable times over the years, most of our site readers aren't members. Our simple compliance change on our Mature stories has seen over 1000 new members join the site in the last 2 months. This provided some nice feedback on, yes, they want to keep reading those stories. Sometimes, we've done surveys. Sometimes we do a little poll. On stories, posts, and blogs, people use reactions for feedback. It's the easiest form, but it says someone looked at it. On stories, we can click the recommendation with reasons, which is a nice step up from just a reaction. Other people make comments or write reviews. All of these send authors and site staff messages. And finally, we sometimes outright ask for feedback. I would like people to weigh in, even if you usually just lurk. What do you want to see at Gay Authors in 2026? I'm a reader, and I just want to see more of what you are already doing. I'm a reader, and I want to see more gay demon stories. (Top trending search for the last 3 months on Gay Authors has been "gay demons" according to Bing) I'm an author and want to add stories more easily. (This will be part of the upgrade to the new system) Constructive feedback is the most appreciated. If you can tell me your perspective (author, reader, editor, community member, guest that just registered to answer this), it would help provide context to your feedback. If you are a person of few words, please provide a translation matrix for your grunting. Wishing you all the best in this holiday season and a wonderful new year in 2026!
