I doubt she reads the fanfics. With over 200,000 HP stories on FF alone, someone was bound to hit real plot points. Many people have predicted Snapes unending love of Lily Evans Potter, for example. Though, there was a few times where I thought she might be nodding to the fanfic folks. The line about Snape after he jumped out the window: "With a tingle of horror, Harry saw in the distance a huge, batlike shape flying through the darkness towards the perimeter wall." I'm pretty sure she described Snape as batlike in the first book, but the fanfic authors have run away with it. 2 outstanding questions have come to mind: 1) Does the Sorting Hat summon the Sword of Gryffindor from wherever it is? Or did Griphook bring the thing back to Hogwarts (which seems HIGHLY unlikely after the description we were given of Goblins motivations.) 2) We know from book two that Colin Creevey's father is a milkman, and it says he's Muggleborn, as he was a victim of the Heir of Slytherin. If he really is Muggleborn, how did he end up at Hogwarts for this book? Or did I miss something. I thought they stopped anyone without direct proof of wizard relation from going to Hogwarts or anyplace else, for that matter. Does this mean Creevey is a Half-Blood?

How long before we see the ? lol I clocked in at a slightly slower 12 hours, as I stopped for meals in there. I don't think I'm going to appreciate all the details until I reread it. Oh, I was very proud of Kreatcher. Myr

I agree on Fusion power. I'll say some form of affordable renewable fuel for our vehicles. (Hydrogen fuel cells, perhaps?) Much higher efficiency solar panels. Anthropomorphic robots. Learning Computers/ A.I (with all the dangers associated with it. ie, Terminator or I, Robot or Battlestar Gallactica)

And then the year after that with Star Trek: TNG and Wil Wheaton... Then Sequest DSV with Jonathan Brandis. Sadly, both of these guys are dead.

I don't usually way in on discussions here, but I wanted to say something about this, as it strikes me kind of close in a profressionaly sense. As many people know, I'm an engineer and I have taught engineering at my university. (15,000 student tech school, not that disimilar from Virginia Tech). My long term career goal, is in fact, to teach at the college level. Giving that background, I am fairly familar with campus life. At my school, there are not enough campus police officers to cover all the doors of just ONE building. (we'll use the engineering building as an example). The building has well over a dozen entrances at ground level. you can also access the building from 2 seperate tunnel systems and 2 skyway bridges. This is just one building. There are over 200 on campus. So, all the armchair quarterbacks jumping up and down about locking down a campus need to realize that you can't do anything short of calling in the national guard. also, as others have said, knowing how you will react in a situation until that situation occurs is impossible. I've had a loaded gun pointed at me before by a criminal. It was only briefly, but it seemed like a lifetime. He then offered to sell me the gun as "it's hot man, I need to get out of town and I need $20" I declined his generous offer and scrambled on my way as fast as I could. I've spent a lot of time thinking about how I would react, as a professor, to a violent situation. This, for me, extends back to Columbine. I've been in front of a classroom a lot since then and it's something that still crosses my mind now and then. I would like to think that if I was going to go down, I'd do so swinging. But none of us can really judge until, God forbid, we face that situation. I cannot do anything more than express my sorrow at the loss of innocent life, express gratitude for those that made it out alive, and remember with honor a 77 yr old Israeli Holocoust survivor who blocked the door of his classroom so his students could escape with their lives. Basically, since I upgraded PHP in the process of rebuilding the webserver, the rules changed on how a certain program function is handled. It's one that we were pretty loose with in how we handled it. a few of the author sites, and all of the archives (story, movie, book) and the shared member hosting all had the issues. We're going to be cleaning up for a few days.

It was acting like we got hacked.

I'm really sorry folks for the downtime today. I'm not sure what caused it and I'm not sure if it will happen again. Suffice it to say, I went into unexplored land to fix this today. (had to recompile the apache webserver among other things). I think everything is up again. Keep your fingers crossed and drop me an PM/email if you find something off. Myr
