  1. That's the type of editor I'm looking for EMoe. I'm not looking for a co-author. I just need someone to tell me when something I wrote is awkward or misspelled. But it really depends on what you're looking for.
  2. Happy Birthday Ty! I hope you have a great day!
  3. hmmm... I haven't done it overly much yet. It takes the truly skilled to pull it off. You need to balance the pain you are causing the character with happiness for that character. Or at least appear to have it balance. An example where there was no balance is Harry Potter book 5. I've had a seriously hard time writing HP stuff since that book came out. It didn't suck, exactly... but I threw the book across the room 3 times when reading it, I got so frustrated. You don't want to do that to your readers. An example of pulling it off is Mercedes Lackey's "Magic's Pawn". (in case you haven't read it, it is a Valdemar book and the main character is gay.) Something terrible happens and a main character dies and the emotional pain in this book is huge. But she pulls it off. It is one of my favorite books, despite the fact that I cry at the scene every time I read it. Something I'm writing right now is an attempt to explore some of the more complex realities in life. We'll see where it goes. Great question Comsie!
  4. There has been a major update to the story archive! There are new stats availible... like total number of views. about 26,000 at the moment. Also, each story now has a stat breakdown and a views per day breakdown. Check them out! In an effort to stop or reduce "sniping" (the intentional low rating of stories to improve some other stories position) several new features have been added. the most important of which is the comments are now required when giving ratings of 1-5, 9, 10. Thanks to Flip for his hard work!

  7. I'm not one to generally watch these shows.... but my mother taped it and was watching and laughing her ass off... so I wandered out to find out why... so I caught this really cute, very red-headed 16 yr old guy. I think my mother will be watching this show... so I'll keep an eye on him. There will be bios and stuff on the official site soon. Red hair.... mmm. lol

  9. Yup... I get it. I usually switch to writing a different story. When I get it across everything... I stop trying to write for awhile and go on a reading binge. After reading tons, I can usually write again.
  10. Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great day!
  11. Ultimately that's up to Comsie Bubba. Though the offer still stands for as much as he needs here.

  18. Character pics are okay and give a nice feel, but I get concerned over what the guy in the picture might feel over his picture being used for a gay character (famous or not)...

  21. Welcome to Frank Aiden Ryan! https://www.gayauthors.org/frankaidenryan/index.html We are now hosting him here on Gay Authors!
  22. I love feedback, especially the detailed kind. I tend to have a problem giving it myself, unless I'm asked specific questions. However, I have been building up a nice collection of authors and editors for the Private Workshop here. We've been prodding each other into better writing I too have had many conversations on the various messenger services. It's fun talking to fans.
  23. web-based most likely.
  24. yeah... last night was fun
  25. I've been thinking of an answer since you posted this and I'm still have some difficulties. I think the easiest explanation for me is when I'm reading the story and it evokes emotion in me. I think the two best examples in written work that I can think of right now are in Mercedes Lackey's books... Magic's Pawn. There is a scene where I cry everytime I read it. The scene is so emotionally powerful, you are just sucked into and feel the soulracking pain that the character feels. Another one is in her book Joust... the young boy tries leaping to his death instead of being dragged back to slavery. You can just feel his pain. There is also a rather cute scene in that one where a massive dragon follows the boy like a puppy and everyone around them are amazed to no end that the dragon would do such a thing. It was a very cute scene. Again, you could visualize the dumbfounded looks on the faces of those people. There are many examples in net work as well, though I won't bring up any. When I'm writing, I try to connect to the reader and make them feel what the characters feel. I want them to have an emotional stake. I love the replies so far and I'll probably post again after more thought and discussion here. Myr
