Just like Lucas with his shirt off,…” While it’s been established beyond doubt that Jubal is a hard worker, a little eye candy can’t hurt to keep things moving….or would it be a distraction? If nothing else, it shows he’s capable of multitasking, lol. Vincent’s tutelage of Jubal in architecture and engineering (though they weren’t called such in those days) shows that Jubal’s a good student and isn’t afraid to learn; he is a diligent worker,…with a work ethic like that, he can be whatever he wants wherever he wants, build castles in the sky or on lands more fertile. 🏰 The new cabin as it’s been described puts me in the mind of one that can be stumbled upon a century or two later, none the worse for wear, still mainly intact. 🛖 I’ve never tried slow cooking for fear of leaving a stove on for that long but the thought of flavor infused meat soft enough you don’t need to cut or chew, is mighty enticing. 🍖🍗 Lucas is an enigma-a mild mannered steam engine who says what he means, even if what he says may have several meanings, lol. Jubal wants everything he can get out of his relationship with Lucas, he can’t help it that he wants everything with Lucas, lol…. I have to say, Lucas’ strong desire for Jubal to stay seems to speak of more than just companionship; we’ve seen that he doesn’t have to lack for company if’n he don’t want to (heeeyyyy Reid, 👋) “Well… you could only loft one side and leave the other side open if you wanted.” “You think that’s what we should do?” We?” 👀 Yes, Gary, I know-Lucas might just be a really friendly guy, blah blah blah, lol.….I give him credit, he has patience; he knows there has been violence in Jubal’s past but isn’t trying to coerce the information out of him….Jubal needs gentling and promise, both of which Lucas has in spades. Lucas trusts his gut and he knows Jubal needs him, the same way he needs Jubal and he ain’t fixin’ to let him go. How long will Jubal stay in Bearpaw? Will Jubal be Lucas’ neighbor or roommate? Kyan has a deep seated need to please people, on top of being intensely loyal….to think he has done something that’s the antithesis to what had been up to her death the most important relationship in his life (outside of his children), rocks the shaky foundation he tried to build with his new family and plays on wounds from his upbringing. 🙁

Honestly? I did initially think he was a hit & runner-it was why I made my previous comment about each fishing with different kind of bait, lol. What made me change my mind was quantity-I took it that most of these towns weren’t densely populated and that if they were, there were not as many “fishermen” around, even with the recent speculation we’ve made about how many loner, male travelers may have been “hunting for eggplant” (?) (allow me to point out the now realized irony in using fish as a euphemism for male/male sex, my terrible substitution notwithstanding, 😂) 🐟🍆 🥕🌶️ I allow I may be wrong, but it seems it was easier to be into women than men, even if it was just for appearances.

He’s justified in wanting to respect his dead wife’s feelings, he just has to remember his wife is dead, as harsh as that may sound. There were a lot of things that went into why Dayna felt the way she felt-her youth and brattiness, her sibling rivalry with Perry and her woman’s intuition; she knew more than Perry did-she knew there was something between both Kyan and Perry, otherwise why get in between them? Her youth and insecurity outweighed her faith in her relationship with her husband….even if there was a mutual attraction, (subconscious on Kyan’s part) she should have believed in Kyan’s commitment to their marriage….it only reinforces my belief that she had all those babies to keep her man, as it hasn’t yet been established what type of mom she was. Let’s also remember Perry was ALWAYS a respectful brother and brother in law….never ONCE did he put a foot wrong in his relationship with his sister or brother in law, even going out of his way to show he was no threat….although breaking up with a serious boyfriend and never having another serious relationship again had to be a red flag to a bull looking for one, as Dayna probably always was. I feel some sympathy for Dayna but still think she handled things really badly. Life goes on and if Kyan is going to use whether Dayna would approve of whomever he moves on with as a deciding factor in his future involvements, he’s going to remain alone, lol.

The instant connection we witness between Jubal and Lucas, especially as it deepens in this chapter, is a sharp contrast to the admittedly limited interaction we saw between Lucas and Reid. Did Reid never praise Lucas’ efforts as he endeavored to start up his farm, nor its progress? To see his reaction to Jubal’s words of suggestion and encouragement would make it appear so….or did Lucas close his ear to someone he didn’t want as a “fishing” partner anymore? Reid doesn’t seem like a slam bam thank you Sam type of guy, nor someone who likes conquering someone hard to get but there is definitely something that seems to have stopped/changed whatever was between he and Lucas….does he even know or is he singlemindedly hopeful?

So Taylan gave his blessing via “sending” Tom to Mitchell: ….“You left me little choice but to send him to you, didn’t you?” …”We had our shot, it was the best. Now take another. Who knows; he might even be better than me.” …“Don’t forget me but also, don’t forget to live.” Gotta admit, I was a little teary eyed while laughing during their convo. Liberace, Taylan? Really?!?! Lol. If it’s okay with Taylan, *sigh* it’s okay with me….if Mitch & Tom aren’t better than Mitch & Tay, they will be just as good in a different way….I still wanna get Kit’s take on setting his first love up with his father, as well as learn more about the mysterious Mischa. Isn’t it funny how being stared at can wake you up? What’s up with that? Lol. Lucas: auburn hair and green eyes. Jubal: medium to light brown hair with blue eyes. Got it. 👌 “Boss? So, I’m your boss, am I?” “Yep. You tell me what to do and I’ll do it.” “I’ll keep that in mind,” he said, grinning while shifting sideways.” Has Jubal ever flirted with anyone in his life? Lucas sure has, lol. For all the “fishing” Lucas may have done with Reid, it didn’t seem to be enough to keep Lucas from feeling lonely….something he doesn’t seem to feel with Jubal around. Reading how Jubal & Lucas interact with each other brought to mind that outside of a snake pit, Larkspur, nirvana or home is anywhere you feel comfortable, anywhere you feel safe, anywhere you feel welcome. Lucas picked up on some type of connection between Jubal and Vincent and isn’t above some good natured (and dare I say slightly jealous? possessive?) teasing. I am a bona fide city girl but there is something about a well made cottage of wood or stone that calls to something basic in me….your detailing of the layout of the new cabin put me in mind of that, lol. Seems like our Jubal is an architect. 😊 🏠 “he sent Vincent some silent thanks for all he’d given him. He hoped the man was truly happy, and had hisself a passel of kids… at least one of them a boy who liked to build… one what looked like his handsome pa.” This passage was bittersweet to me….no doubt Jubal wants Vincent to have everything he dreamed of but how long before Vincent got “those” urges again and how much would he risk to satisfy them? Will Vincent ever truly be happy? How many beds will be put into in the loft of the new cabin? Will more than one even be needed? Will Lucas ever ask about Jubal’s scar?
