Not sure how I forgot to review this little gem. Despite what one reviewer said, I think the hero’s words are pretty fair. So, my next objective is to do a re-read through of the CJ and friends stories. I shall, of course, be grading according to the Cambridge University criteria of Content, Communicative achievement, Organisation, and Language….. which is how I spend my life here!! Seriously, I thing Carlos will get a pass for effort alone, 🥵would love to share a few chps with my students…. Perhaps not. A colleague was sacked today with no warning. God know what his crime was…

Very well put. How many stories have we read where the dialogue just doesn’t seem to be natural or flow with ease, despite great plot and solid characters? Carlos certainly doesn’t have that difficulty!!!

“Love means……. Coping when your partner is ill” a great gem. I’m amazing how much detail is contained in this author’s tales. Not a word or phrase is redundant. I’m in awe of the writing skills. delightful, truly delightful. Another 5* read from a very talented writer.

Yep! I’ve been lucky at work in Spain, out to bosses, some have met Paco, the problem is immature kids and, can I say it, ultra right wing parents. My British degrees aren’t accepted here so had to work in private sector. any chance of seeing the abuelo and his restaurant? I need to incorporate Cuban cuisine into my limited culinary skills. I also count days in GA. Almost at 5 yrs of fabulous reading. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

I read one or two of his works in the 90s. He was quite popular. His writing abilities raise him above the typical stuff that was around then. I love your comment about being able to avoid projecting modern concepts on to characters in the past. Really thoughtful. Thanks for the review.- 6 comments
